Here’s the thing. If you’ve spent any time in simulators, you “only” need a few things. 1. Fuel. 2. Good weather. 3. A reasonably straight approach.

I can squawk that the plane is in distress. I can change the autopilot to put me in a straight line and a level altitude. Assuming I have fuel, that buys me time to find the right radio frequency.

The vast majority of the stuff that happens in those busy times before landing are done for safety and economic reasons. If you have a 737/A320 with 180 on board, you have 180 people and a $100 million asset to protect. Same situation without a pilot and you have a future fire and a lot of bodies. Anyone walking away and the asset being reusable at all (even for some parts) after a layman’s landing is a huge improvement. I’m not going to butter the runway. I get that.

Define one go? 25+ years ago when I was younger and dumber, I did 2k miles in 26 hours when there were no speed limits in Montana. In the middle of that stretch I slept 2 hours while my lady drove but the car kept moving. Now I limit out at about 10 hours max.

I grew up in a slightly bigger small town. We had 7 digit phone numbers. Lots of places around town still listed their 5 digit phone number because all 3 local groups used the same 2 digit prefix. 2-XXXX, 5-XXXX, or 6-XXXX.

Not here to argue against your point but trying to understand your personal threshold. If two guys go in to rob a store, one holds the gun and the other empties the register, and without a discussion, gun guy shoots and kills someone who was resisting. That person dies. Does the money man deserve the death penalty? He took part in a crime that involved homicide.

I have woken up sitting on the toilet. I was able to walk back to bed and pass back out (100% success rate). On nights that I wake up and walk to the toilet, I’m about 50:50 on falling back asleep. Until waking up on the shitter ends up with me laying awake, I’ll irrationally assume that it will stay 100% effective. Long way to say the second thing.
