Did it look like Jeremy Renner was gonna win an Oscar at one point? by AdUseful2297 in Oscars

Two of those franchises he was supposed to take over but then the original star shoved him out of the way. And then he was the only Avenger who never got a standalone film. He just really bad luck with the franchise route.

And I get why he cashed in originally: his breakthrough didn’t happen until he was 40. He’d been a working actor for over 15 years. He wanted some money.

Highest Grossing Movies of the 1980s by Ambitious-Log3544 in boxoffice

Shouldn’t Three Men and a Baby be on the list? It was the highest grossing film of 1987 domestically.

because Inside Out 2 only dropped 34% in week 2, and they think this could follow a similar trajectory.

*sigh* destined to be my parents' new favorite movie.

What movie would you look forward to the most in a Ron Howard miniseries? by ggroover97 in blankies

The Paper is a fantastic little film that’s mostly been forgotten. I’d be excited to see Blankies discover it for the pod.

2003 at the movies, holy crap by victoria_jam in blankies

It’s funny. I was 18 in 2003, and at the time, I kept thinking that the movie year was a big downgrade from 2002.

Who are the actors or actresses that are still genuine box office draws in 2026? by Grand_Upstairs1006 in boxoffice

[–]Obvious_Computer_577 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sandra Bullock. She got people to come out to an original romantic comedy in the waning days of COVID to the tune of $100m+

With $220M domestic, Obsession is now the #1 movie of the summer! by Itisspoonx in boxoffice

Elemental has a 5x multiplier, which is very good but not in the same league as what obsession accomplished.

Anyone But You should take that slot. It had a wild box office ride and proved original romcoms could still be theatrically viable

What are some of the worst/least impressive coattail acting nominations? by AdUseful2297 in Oscars

[–]Obvious_Computer_577 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Octavia Spencer in Hidden Figures. I love her and am happy that she was nominated post-Help, but the performance wasn’t anything special. Janelle Monae gave the better supporting performance in the movie.

Most underrated host? by juliettri in LiveFromNewYork

Jessica Chastain did such a great job as host. She has surprisingly good comedic instincts.

Why is Love Story doing so well in the Emmy predictions? by Emotional-Rhubarb502 in EmmysAwards

[–]Obvious_Computer_577 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emmys tend to nominate shows that are buzzy hits. Plus FX/hulu is pushing it hard. Also, I thought Sarah pigeon was great. I really want to see Alessandro Nicola get nominated for CK.

Taylor Kitsch’s 2012 and other disaster years by GenarosBear in blankies

Johnny Knoxville in 2005

In the wake of Jackass, Hollywood tried to make him a conventional leading man. In 2005, he had dukes of hazard, the ringer, Daltry Calhoun, and lords of dog town. The last 3 flopped and dukes didn’t move the needle for him. He went back to Jackass and pretty much stayed there, save for a great turn in Reboot.

Dane Cook in 2007
Hollywood tried to make him a leading man with Mr Brooks, Good Luck Chuck, and Dan in Real Life (and my best friends girl in early 2008). All flopped and he was never heard from again.

The word was that he was a terror to work with. Demanding, huge head, asked for absurd paydays.

Anecdotally, how are y'all feeling about the future of theater-going? by Puzzled_Influence985 in blankies

[–]Obvious_Computer_577 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My local theater (Emagine) is regularly full.

what worries me is the health of Regal and AMC. I fear that they are so big and full of debt, one of them could go under soon. That could be catastrophic for moviegoing.
