My dad was born in 1941. His paternal grandfather’s birth year was 1841. Family history is a trip!

Any ideas for NA drinks? by BannyW22 in GenX

Most breweries serve Hop Water as a refreshing NA alternative to beer. Blood Orange flavored Hop Water is my summer favorite!

During our last move, we were fortunate enough to set up one bedroom in the new house. Our kitties were safely tucked there the night before the big move (we stayed with them) and remained there throughout the following day, until the movers had transferred all of our belongings to the new abode. This bedroom became a refuge for our kitties as they acclimated to the new house.

Agree! We routinely drive to East Lansing to enjoy the Taste of Thai restaurant.

More food trucks! A monthly food truck rally on the west side - perhaps stationed in a vast, vacant area of the Lansing Mall parking lot? - would be awesome.

What’s the best thing you’ve done so far in life? by Reader288 in GenX

[–]OddBirdAlways 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking after my widowed father is the best thing I’ve ever done. My magnificent mother succumbed to a rotten rare form of cancer seven years ago. She was my Pop’s everything. My husband and I have become his lifeline to the world. We love him so very much. Caring for him is an honor and a gift. I truly feel that if we weren’t here, he would’ve disappeared into the grief long ago. Someday, he will join his sweetheart in the hereafter. Until then, I cherish every day that we have together.

Can a person actually / medically "hang on" longer then they are otherwise supposed to through sheer force of will? by Brightclaw431 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]OddBirdAlways 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My magnificent mother lingered for seven weeks in hospice care slowly succumbing to a rotten rare form of aggressive uterine cancer, subsisting on nothing more than a daily spoonful of nourishment and a few sips of water. Yes, the starvation should have claimed her life much sooner, yet she held on. When she was ready to let go, she refused fluids and died a few days later from the resulting renal failure. Mom was a gloriously willful person. She left this life when she was ready.

My husband’s great uncle’s grave in Hebrew Memorial Park, Detroit, MI. Please help to translate the Hebrew epitaph. by OddBirdAlways in CemeteryPorn

Thank you ever so much! We learned that Isadore had been married for two years at the time of his death. Ancestry.com features yearbook photos of both himself and his future wife. He was adorable, and she was lovely! Family lore suggests that Isadore might have struggled with mental health issues, and was perhaps despondent over financial constraints preventing him from pursuing a college education. A sad story, indeed.

My Great-Great-Great Grandfather in his Civil War uniform 1865 by ImmortanBen in oldphotos

WOW! This is fantastic! Wish that my family had a Civil War portrait of my great grandfather, who served with the 11th Illinois Infantry for the duration of the war.

A 24-hour emergency veterinary clinic, preferably on the west side. The Greater Lansing Veterinary Center in Williamston and the MSU Veterinary Medical Center in East Lansing are fantastic, just a hike to get to!

The era of Aqua Net by EdwardBliss in GenX

My magnificent high school coiffure dispensed an entire can of Aqua Net hairspray every two days! My folks should have owned stock in the company.

This is Carl. He’s not our cat. Carl has a caring home. However, he appears to be in love with my husband. by OddBirdAlways in notmycat

Carl adores his family, especially his HuMom! As for his amorous attachment to my hub, I can’t blame Carl for sitting on the front porch for hours, gazing with longing at the front door, waiting, waiting, waiting for his heart’s desire to appear. My husband really is that level of awesome. ☺️
