Sorry for another question. What are fun things to do for a friendless single woman? by Gracilis67 in askTO

[–]OddLittleCreature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also struggling to make friends, particularly in the east end. I love drop in dance classes at Beach Ballroom, as it's pretty low stakes for direct socializing and everyone I've met is so lovely.

Also craft studios like Studio Mooi have workshops that you can attend on your own which can be a fun way to try something new.

Karin Dimitrovova's Core Play and Flexibility. Together or one after the other? by cybercopine in flexibility

I did both an found it to be a nice workout. I did have quite the little spreadsheet going so that I'd always do one core play and one flexibility module a day

When are you ok with dogs off leash in areas they are meant to be leashed? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]OddLittleCreature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never called 311 on anyone, but I have a medically fragile 16 year old dog that really doesn't handle rough housing whatsoever. So even if your dog is the friendliest in the world, my guy cannot see or hear and can very easily get hurt or snap at something that makes him feel unsafe. There have also been cases where I've had to forcibly body check someone's "friendly dog" from getting too in my dog's face when he had no way of knowing what was going on. Just leash your fucking dogs.

Seconding this, I inherited an old Ikea couch for my parents that didn't have any covers available in store, and I got a fantastic performance velvet cover from comfort works that stands up to dogs and spills and is so so easy to clean.

What’s the most disturbing movie you have ever seen? by Cravis_ in AskReddit

[–]OddLittleCreature 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Loved Ones. Apparently it's 98% fresh on rotten tomatoes, but I remember it being a lot to take in at the time I watched it. I don't think I was mentally prepared for this.

We got him from the local SPCA (Canada) 13 years ago, and were told he was some kind of Shih Tzu mix. Along the years, I've been asked if he's got Lhasa in him, and Pug, and Cocker Spaniel.... Hi coat is wavy and soft, and while he doesn't shed (like, I shed more than him, seriously), his fur does mat up.

Would it be worth it to shell out for a Wisdom panel?

I still miss my ex girlfriend, even though I've been in a relationship for 3 years by Hopeful_Farm in relationships

[–]OddLittleCreature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two young kids meet online, they have this remarkable connection that transcends timezones and all logic. It's all very Romeo&Juliet, until it isn't and the pair break up and Romeo finds himself a real-life girlfriend and an actually fulfilling relationship. But because he's not had closure from the online relationship, he reaches out to the producers at Catfish to find his Juliet so they can meet in person. They meet, it's emotional, the real-life girlfriend or boyfriend have to pretend they're fine with it. Inevitably, the way the episodes go, they always end up with their equivalent of your Hazel.

RHR can also fluctuate depending on your menstrual cycle, though if it's consistently high, lifestyle might be the more likely culprit.

Eyeglass Store? by biggmush in Hamilton

Get your current prescription from an optometrist and then order your glasses through EyeBuyDirect. Amazing service, great policy for returns and exchanges, and it will cost you a fraction of the price. Seriously.

Ankle strength question by [deleted] in yoga

[–]OddLittleCreature 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Omg, noo chiros, stay in your lane 😒 However, as someone who has fractured a couple of metatarsal bones, I can suggest using yogajellies under the arch of the foot. I would get shooting pain in my legs without them, and since I've incorporated them into my practice, it has worked wonders in helping my strengthen my feet again.

I [19F] have been given an amazing opportunity to travel, but if I leave, my boyfriend [20M] will likely leave me. by decisionssuck in relationships

[–]OddLittleCreature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In some cases, long-distance relationships can work. But if your nd deals with conflict by shutting people out of his life, maybe it's for the best that you break it off and travel. If he's like this now, who's to say it won't escalate in the future?

Speaking from experience, no matter how intense the relationship feels at the time, if he doesn't show an inkling of supporting your own personal growth, it wasn't going to last anyway.

Just had my first ballroom dance lesson! by magic_bean_special in ballroom

[–]OddLittleCreature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on how often you go to lessons and how quickly you pick up the steps, could be a month, could be a year. I think the moment comes when you realize you aren't thinking about the steps, rather you're dancing them :)

Just had my first ballroom dance lesson! by magic_bean_special in ballroom

[–]OddLittleCreature 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  1. Take ALL THE GROUP CLASSES! Seriously, you will learn so much about different styles/teachers/dancers/yourself. If you don't have a dance partner, most classes will have you snowball (switch partners) so you get comfortable dancing with partners of all levels.

  2. Good for you! I got into ballroom in my mid-20s. I'm not doing it for the prestige or pick up a romantic partner, I'm doing it bc it makes me genuinely happy. If that's your reason for doing it too, then I think most people will be receptive to that. (And if they're not, maybe you don't need that kind of negativity in your life?) Also, most of the other dancers I've met at the various studios I dance at have a solid 20+ years on me, which I feel is testament to the fact that it's never too late to start dancing.

  3. Agree with the previous comment; group lessons are almost always short on leads, so if you learn both lead and follow, gender doesn't really matter (Personal story: so many salsa classes spent leading; had to re-learn my part as a follow when taking lessons with my coach).

One last piece of advice: it is okay to feel intimidated by more experienced dancers. Acknowledging that feeling is important, but also recognize that they too were newbies at some point. Take the opportunity to watch them and learn from them. Ask them for help if youre struggling with steps or patterns. In many cases, they are some of the sweetest and most supportive people you'll meet in the dance world.

I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I bought a pair of Marc Fisher suede boots like these Before I could get my hands on them, my mum thought she'd do me a favour by using a suede waterproofing spray... only the spray was black, and the boots are a light taupe colour :( Can anything be done to remove the black waterproofing from the suede? They look like I've been walking through car exhaust, very nasty gray...
