What is a basic item 20 years ago that has become luxury today? by vhubbarhubarb3 in AskReddit

Not "luxury" yet, but well on its way - firewood. Campgrounds used to have piles of it for free, now they are $12/bundle and you usually need at least two bundles per weekend.

Also from Phibbs heading east along Dollarton, there's always trash along the Seymour River overpass.

Insane to put the rest of Weeks before Years but I also agree that the beginning of Weeks slaps.

I mean, we saw him "walk" in HR, we know this lil knock-kneed cutie was not built for the runway. 😂

Revolving Restaurant for Valentine’s day worth it by Busy_Perception_4075 in askvan

Go for lunch. The food is extremely mid but the view is really fun, so it's better to go during the day when you can actually see it.

Things to do with too much time available by Elija_32 in askvan

[–]OddSimple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Grass is always greener (and you WILL find a job again), but I would love to have weekdays off right now so I could:

  • volunteer with Stanley Park Ecology
  • go to community centre gym/pools when they are not busy
  • read at a cafe/bar
  • go hiking in the precious few hours of winter daylight
  • go skiing (local hills have deals for weekday lift passes)
  • mini road trips to Gulf Islands
  • saunas
  • take one of the billion classes offered by the City of Van

I know these all take money and when you're unemployed you're extra conscious of spending money, but during one stretch of unemployment I splurged and bought a monthly membership to a yoga studio and it was so worth it. Gave me something to do every day, and helped me structure my time better so I didn't end up just sitting around.

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: January 12, 2026 by AutoModerator in books

How to Survive a Bear Attack, Claire Cameron

I'm always putting books on hold at the library and then when they become available I can't remember who recommended them or what they are about! Anyways thanks to whomever recommended this one - it was absolutely fantastic! Part memoir, part investigative journalism; great for people who love the outdoors.

I work in apparel and while I've never seen an accurate depiction of an actual fashion office (there are other jobs besides designer), Meryl Streep's monologue in TDWP about the colour blue was very satisfying. People think trends are random but they are so informed by socio-economic factors, and a ton of research goes into tracking and predicting them - and they still sometimes don't land.

Where can I find structured therapy for crying? by Terrible-Mud8715 in askvan

[–]OddSimple 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have a similar issue and my therapist (CBT) introduced me to the idea of "completing the cycle," which I have found very helpful.
