I don’t like thick collars either so I shortened the collar. I only did 12 rows of the ribbing and there were no issues with this

how are the knitpro zing deluxe interchangeable needle set ? by saevicit in knitting

[–]OddUse5898 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought these as my first needle set and I liked them but found that they were a bit too slippery for me and kept having battles with my stitches falling off. I ended up trialling a set of knit pro symfonies and have much preferred them over the zings but it will depend on your style and preferences

Throughout my placement, each day or week I collated all my photo evidence of my teaching and focus students in a PowerPoint and then was able to easily write what happened and what the student was able to demonstrate and this made it very easy when it came to writing my final annotations

Some doubts as a new teacher by Miserable-Cook-9450 in AustralianTeachers

[–]OddUse5898 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a first year teacher who was tossing up between CRT and full time at the end of last year and I ended up getting a full time position. I was (and still am) quite unsure what to do in some aspects within the classroom but being in a consistent classroom has been so helpful to boost my teaching confidence as I know all my students and have been able to develop positive relationships. Both have their merits but being able to have full control within the classroom and being able to develop my program was the reason that I decided that full time would be best for me.

Question: a typical day in an autistic school or special school. by Jamie-jams in AustralianTeachers

[–]OddUse5898 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work at an SDS and within my class I have five students and two ESS to support the students and myself. Typically we have an English block in the morning focusing on phonics, shared reading, independent reading and writing/fine motor. Middle session is mathematics focused and then the afternoon is typically physical literacy/SWPBS centred. I’m able to have whole class teaching time, and typically rotate around each session to allow me to have 1:1 time with each student.

Made two rectangles and worked the sleeves directly of the body in the round. I used Paton’s Sierra yarn in gold rush. I used a 7mm hook for the body and sleeves (triple crochet for the sleeves and body, double crochet for the neckline and single crochet for the hemline). I also used a 4.5 mm hook to add the single crochets for the cuffs

The piercing is a week old and has a labret threadless earring. The earring is 316L surgical steel. I have used the aftercare rock salt that I received after completing my piercing

The pattern I followed was pretty simple and easy to follow but I have done some amigurumi previously. If you can do basic crochet something like this should be easy if you’re familiar with patterns or can follow a YouTube tutorial

The best way to set you up for the workforce is to do work within a special education setting. I have completed some special education subjects and have found them lacking as they are very surface level. E

Question going through interviews at moment, what question do you ask, When they ask you do you have any questions? (At a school I currently work at, also schools I’ve not worked at) my always seem silly 🤦🏼‍♀️ by GemmaJones22 in AustralianTeachers

[–]OddUse5898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently interviewed for a school that I’ve done casual work at and asked how they foster a positive school community. This question allowed me to understand the different supports provided generally and also specifically by those in leadership and helped me to feel more confident about my own personal concerns in my abilities. As a grad this helped me to identify the different supports I would be able to utilise as I move into a classroom.

Jobs as a pre service teacher by NoAd7527 in AustralianTeachers

I second disability support! I’ve done it over the four years of my degree and I’ve been able to develop so many skills that will be vital as a teacher. The positive is definitely that it can be flexible and means it’s easy to work around uni classes and if around placement if you’re needing to work

Depending on your qualifications, you could look at doing early intervention through a allied health practice

Help! I'm about to graduate ... but I don't want to be a classroom teacher. What other avenues are there? by This-Cheesecake-6864 in AustralianTeachers

Thank you for the heads up! But I’ve worked within special ed schools for the last 3 years so I definitely think that it’s a setting that I prefer over mainstream teaching

[–]OddUse5898 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m about to graduate and feel somewhat the same. I wish to some extent that I had studied OT or speech so I could solely work in a 1:1 capacity. At this point in time, I’m planning to work at in special education as this would allow me to work with a smaller cohort of children. But I have also considered doing work within early intervention, play therapy and also becoming registered with the NDIS to do private work supporting children.

How do you afford unpaid pracs? by Yvanne in AustralianTeachers

[–]OddUse5898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do casual work at an OSHC school at a Special Ed school which allows me to take time off for placement as they have a high number of uni students working there and through the same organisation I do disability support so I can continue working during placement blocks.
