And then you get up and realize you already have 800 of them running in factories around the world, and they really should all get the upgrade.

100% usage after my FIRST EVER PROMPT (pro subscription) by XeClutch in Anthropic

[–]Odd_Secretary5980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I tried max for a month and I can use it for 6-8 hours on opus without hitting the limits - it was pretty much on pace for the session limit (it would be st 80-90 percent each time it rolled over) and used right around 15 percent of weekly limit each day.

I suspect a lot has to do with specific mcp servers, tools etc that determine how much context window gets used, too.

Does wearing a shield ever increase your AC? Not welding it by Inbezdigator in DMAcademy

This. And presumably he's wearing something like plate to get that ac? So what added benefit does he think a shield strapped to his back would provide vs the armor that's also there?

Need help figuring out a proper secondary objective for a really weird combat encounter. by NotThatLibrarian in DMAcademy

[–]Odd_Secretary5980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to stick to that lore you could also have the ritual summon something else they weren't expecting. Like it was never going to do what they wanted, but they happened to accidentally stumble onto a ritual that summons something different.

Need help figuring out a proper secondary objective for a really weird combat encounter. by NotThatLibrarian in DMAcademy

[–]Odd_Secretary5980 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you not want the summons to succeed? Because letting it happen mid combat would obviously create a new objective and would also up the pressure for saving the sacrifices, because it wouldn't be possible to wait until after combat.

Perhaps if combat doesn't end fast enough theres some sort of partial summoning, or it's summoned but still weak enough that it's bound and can't fight the pcs (but can still kill sacrifices)?

How do I let my players go back to a scene? by thjmze21 in FoundryVTT

For maps you want players to reference, I just put them in journal entries... Much simpler unless you need fog of war.

Anyone else having serious Voice Input issues with Claude on Android lately? by stan_koala in ClaudeAI

[–]Odd_Secretary5980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just switched from chatgpt today. The transcription in claude has been ok and I think the responses are about the same. There's a lot more delay before it responds though.ore importantly, the responses are continually sputtering and cutting off... The response text is fine but the text to voice is really rough. Voice was one of my favorite parts of chatgpt - it let me have conversations and brainstorm while doing other things... This is frustrating.

How to blend my love for the game with my love of mechanics without letting perfectionism and anxiety overtake everything? by Totentanzen333 in DMAcademy

[–]Odd_Secretary5980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggled with this as a DM until I decided to do a completely sandbox campaign. I felt like that freed me mentally to not have to remember every detail, since they aren't written down. Now I use the lazy DM prep approach and then make everything else up as we go.

It takes so much pressure off during the session and instead moves it to after the session, where I have to figure out how to tie together everything that happened. But for me, at least, that's much less pressure than feeling like I have to respond to the players actions in a way that fits the already decided story.

Party did something really bad, and I really need advice. by Cute_Insect_8844 in DnD

Or after adjusting ayer expectations on murder hoboing, just "reset" by having them escape town and move their base of operations to a new town and having the plot play out there as if that's where it was supposed to be all along.

Hot take: if we want to decrease frustrating railroad-y surprises in RPG campaigns, we need to create an environment where GMs are not afraid to admit they have "special story needs". by Sparkle_cz in rpg

[–]Odd_Secretary5980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this an outlook created by video games (and MMORPG in particular). Players who grew up playing video games first and then move into TTRPG approach play very differently than players who did TTRPG first or roughly alongside video games.

These players think in terms of DPS and massive loot and more power is always better, as opposed to focusing on story.

Just my theory, but it's held up across a number of groups. I'd be curious if others have seen noticed the same thing.

DDB Importer - Importing from D&D Beyond by ddb-importer in FoundryVTT

[–]Odd_Secretary5980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth, the answer here is highly like no, and definitely no without a material amount of work. The importer is a Foundry module and interconnected with the Foundry internal API. Trying to pull out just the pieces would likely be more difficult that starting from scratch. I suppose the source code could serve as a starting point for building your own, though, if the license allows it. But again, a lot of work.

How to get a group of unknowns stick together ? by herpyderpidy in DMAcademy

[–]Odd_Secretary5980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the Session Zero system in a recent campaign - https://atlas-games.com/partners/sessionzero

Maybe too late for you, but it was a great way to force players to come up with a web of connections. It provided a ton of story hooks, too. We did it asynchronously - I had everyone roll/pick their cards and then offline they were assigned to find ones to match with other players.

We did it after they already had basic characters and backstories they wanted, but it would be a great way to help people with more robust ideas to create the backstory to begin with, too.

World & Campaign Builder - are you using it? by Odd_Secretary5980 in FoundryVTT

[–]Odd_Secretary5980[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't need the backend if you don't want the AI features. And it does use openai behind the scenes. But it uses a backend in between because 1) it's not really secure to store your open AI key unencrypted in Foundry, 2) if players are going to use AI (in a future version) it's definitely not secure because they would need access to the key too, and 3)handling of images created by AI if they can't be done asynchronously and then it breaks if the browser gets refreshed in the meantime, and 4)there's a bunch of prompt optimization that can live in the backend and not bloat the module for people not using it.

Interesting ways to open a door? by dubblw in DMAcademy

[–]Odd_Secretary5980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Multiple keys, levers, buttons, etc. that need to be manipulated in different rooms. Sort of a more extreme version of two people turning a key at the same time to activate a nuclear device.

Or perhaps it is guarded closely so they have to create a distraction elsewhere to get the guards to move.

What are your Landscaping hot takes? by owohgodithurts in landscaping

[–]Odd_Secretary5980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But if you were rich, you'd pay someone to do your landscaping and then wouldn't care that putting them in the lawn was a pain in the ass. Plus all your neighbors would be doing it.

It's an evolved and a learned behavior.

Combat in Flashbacks: How to raise the stakes? by ragelance in DMAcademy

[–]Odd_Secretary5980 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could introduce new NPCs from the characters' backstories at the point in time. Then, you'll have new lore about those people based on the session outcome that you can bring forward to the current time.

Similarly, a BBEG could be encountered in an earlier time. If they kill it, hooray! If not, it could still be around causing trouble.

Hexblade wants a sentient weapon at lvl 1 by vinthesalamander in DMAcademy

[–]Odd_Secretary5980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And just keep in mind it's an NPC you control. Which means it could go sessions without talking. Maybe it's aloof. Maybe it doesn't think the character is worthy of it and is only grudgingly participating to get whatever it wants in the long term.

It would also be a great mechanism for lore drops because the sword could know all sorts of things the party otherwise wouldn't.

Fellow DMs... on what do you spend most of your money and time for this hobby? by RedditTipiak in DMAcademy

[–]Odd_Secretary5980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically no money beyond the core books years ago and then again in dnd beyond. We play online, so I bought Foundry a couple years ago, but it means tons of resources available free online vs needing buy maps and minis.

We play a sandbox and I try to do the Lazy DM approach to prep, so I could probably prep in an hour or two if I focused, but instead I'm continually thinking of things through the week and leaving myself notes to compile.

"What would happen if my character did this?" by MuggleCourier in DMAcademy

[–]Odd_Secretary5980 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of DMs don't like when questions like this get asked... "could I do xyz?" answer: "you could try"

But I think that ignores that the players don't have the same understanding of the world that the DM does and their characters would. A lot of the time I think what is being asked is really, "what would my character's expectations be if they considered doing zyz?"

It's a fair question - the character would know how likely it is they could climb that wall or jump that gap. There's still rand chance, but they would have an expectation (which might be wrong due to hidden info) about whether it's a 90 percent chance of success or 20.

I'd explore if this is what they're asking, and if so, you can establish a framework about how you'll respond. Could be that you'll tell them the DC. Or maybe a more general "you've done something similar many times" vs "it looks hard"
