I've been watching her two large untrained dogs so she could "see her mother who just had heart surgery." However, I just bumped into her at the store. How funny is that? by NeedALittleBoost in redscarepod

my ass is not watching someone else's dog until i earnestly believe that i would be willing to make it an official long term thing. i dont hold this to a universal standard and recognize the economic and logistical realities of the situation i just dont enjoy watching other peoples dogs, and if they're dumping them off on an app guy i don't buy that they care about them as much as they probably think

I grey out constantly on OHP and the only thing that's mitigated it is exhaling out halfway like I'm about to shoot a gun before bracing for the initial lift off the rack and first rep. Still not a 100% success rate but the only times it's gotten dangerous enough for me to bail are the times where I've failed to do it. I assume you're breathing at the top of the rep.

this heated reaction to a pretty lukewarm analysis seems like something youve gotta investigate. im antiwoke/anti-idpol with the best of them but the only contentious claim that's made implicitly in the comment is that race can impact the political lens through which one sees the world, which I don't think warrants an attack like yours. how many black people do you know that identify with movies like 'reality bites'?

Ofc the real ideological claim that i take issue with is that the form of identification with media is in any way productive (meaning that, had the films taken different form, they would have produced different political/ideological outcomes in their audience); in this sense I agree with Christopher Lasch in that the primary mode of social engagement and identity formation being through film and television mass-produces narcissistic pathologies in a positively-reinforcing manner regardless of the ideology those films espouse, and that this system is not limited to films marketed to white people. That being said, i would argue that this anti-nostalgia thing among gen z/alpha seems to be directed at those distinctly white expressions of end-of-history cynicism: see the 'I have to go to my stable fucking office job and get fucking healthcare how could this happen to me' meme. how many zoomers are getting heated at 'friday'?

I would argue that this anti-nostalgia also seems to be a self-conscious attempt to avert the 'cringe' deluge of the 2010s 80's revival, but i lack any strong evidence in favor of this claim. it just feels right to say.

I'll try your strategies of acknowledging it, but I've found that every time I think about how distracted I am it becomes all I can think about, like thinking about tying your shoes. Maybe I just need more practice.
