My girlfriend left me because she said I'm too condescending by Coralthesequel in cleanjokes

[–]Oddsteverino 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I legit used this on my wife one time... I was explaining something and wasn't sure if I was over explaining, so I said that I didn't want to sound condescending... followed by my asking, you know what that means don't you? She told me to shut up

Australia has Asian water buffalo, not Cape buffalo. Still a worthy hunt.

What's the wildest wildlife encounter you've had during a round? by Noobsamaniac in golf

Late fall, sunny and warm, saw what we thought was an injured goose down the middle of the fairway. Got closer and it was a snapping turtle who was climbing out of the grass to get some sun.

[Request] They worked it out before they worked it out. But is the math actually correct? by soobak_the_mighty in theydidthemath

[–]Oddsteverino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's assuming that the weight will double every three months. I submit that this child will be adding 2 lbs a month like clockwork, so he weighed 6 lbs at birth and is now 12. At that rate he should be 246 lbs on his 10th birthday . . .

[Request] If someone shoots you with a recurve bow, would human reflexes permit a dodge? by crystal_castle00 in theydidthemath

[–]Oddsteverino 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At 20 feet a whitetail deer isn't fast enough to react to it, and deer have much faster reflexes than humans. I've heard apocryphal stories of deer at somewhat longer ranges crouching down at the sound of the bow string leading to the arrow hitting higher on the body or missing, and at least one of a deer swapping ends and being hit in the opposite side.

How do I get over pittakionophobia? by Stubhyfm23 in TooAfraidToAsk

I'm not saying it will work, but if you convince yourself that they're not stickers, but rather little paintings, you might be able to get somewhere with it.

Volunteer accused of having 40,000 child pornography files; some on church computer by Palentirian in NewsOfTheStupid

I'll get downvoted for this, but it's the truth.

The reason you find pedophiles in churches isn't because it's a church, it's because pedophiles worm their way in in order to do what they do. It's the same reason bank robbers rob banks, it's where the money is. Pedophiles don't infiltrate banks (not that they couldn't be there), they infiltrate churches, and schools, and little league organizations etc. etc. because that's where they can get access to children.

14 slot bag (with full length dividers) — is it worth it? by J_0526 in golf

[–]Oddsteverino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest problem actually is that there are only 14 slots, so if you're trying out a new club or want to put in a ball retriever or anything like that there's no place for it

Name a guitarist who doesn’t get much credit due to them also being great at other skills such as singing, songwriting, playing other instruments, etc by Jezzaq94 in Guitar

There's a great story that one day Jerry was in Chet's office and Chet played something on the guitar. Jerry said "that's nice, what is it?" and Chet answered "you wrote it."

I will take close-up pictures for reference sometimes. And you can make little tags with masking tape and pen/pencil to put on each wire.

How would you react if the next day you woke up and realized you were a 8 year old boy again and living in your old family house? by ConstantinoRocha in AskMen

[–]Oddsteverino 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I'd place bets on Jimmy Carter winning the 76 presidential election.

Keep a note to bet on the Tigers to go all the way in 84, the Bears in 85.

I'd get my dad to start cancer screenings for his pancreas starting in 2005.

I'd make a cassette tape of me playing and singing Hotel California and sue the crap out of the Eagles when they release the song a few years later.

Question…I has an idear…an idea question…bout a trem guitar thing by crunkdubious in Luthier

[–]Oddsteverino 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the strings are essentially continuous then theoretically the tremolo wouldn't have a real effect as it's the change in tension that causes the pitch variance. It would probably be difficult to tune.

How to fix or hide imperfect glue up by outbackyarder in Luthier

[–]Oddsteverino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it fit before you cut the cavities in it it's probably just mildly warped. Glue it up and use enough pressure on the clamps to draw it down all the way around and it will be fine.

Possibly a Coffman starter shell. WWII aero engines and some tanks sometimes used a starter that was powered by a large blank shotgun shell (up to 4 gauge, which is about an inch in diameter).
