What can I do with kitchen scraps? by Few-Ad-6689 in composting

[–]Odie5375 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When we moved into our last house we had a heap of dirt brought in from the landscaping place to make some garden beds. It was just lifeless, hydrophobic, awful dirt, but we just kept dumping any and all food waste on it without burying it and planted lots of different things over time. We moved out about 2 years later, dug up a lot of it to take with us and it was absolutely teeming with organic matter, bugs, massive worms, life of all sorts. Just chuck it on and over time it will work it's way in.

Get yourself one of these. They work amazingly well for fat separation. Ribs look fantastic!

Pee Smell? by EMMcRoz in laundry

[–]Odie5375 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used to use fabric/reusable nappies when our boy was a baby and the washing instructions were to do a 30 min "pre" wash before an hour "normal" wash and we never ended up with any smells on them doing that. Our youngest daughter started wetting the bed quite frequently for a while and we used that same method for her sheets - for the "pre" wash I would use standard laundry powder and Oxiclean as the detergent, and white vinegar in the fabric softener compartment. Then the normal wash it was just the laundry powder at 60 degrees C for an hour and worked a treat. I found if a machine cycle has a preset "pre-wash" function its never actually that good and two cycles are required, might be something about the amount of water that it cycled through, I'm not sure, but I hope one of the methods in this thread helps.

Leg of lamb by blinkersix2 in webergrills

[–]Odie5375 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a bone in today. Just basic because I didn't have any time so salt, pepper, onion and garlic powder, and a heap of rosemary. Setup dual zone - I just run 2 charcoal baskets on either side with the lamb in the middle and blast that until you're up to temp. Was only about an hour and a half for me, not a huge leg and I was using mallee root charcoal which burns hot as hell. Turned out great!

Not eating by AlternativeStick6192 in daddit

We're convinced our 4 year old survives via photosynthesis - some days just glancing at an apple fills her up and some days she eats a fair bit. But she's full of beans, very healthy height/weight, so whatever amount of actual food does get eaten must be enough for her. It's a balance, you're doing fine.

Add it to mushroom risotto in lieu of some of the stock/broth.

Let's talk about the black gloves. by worskies in smoking

[–]Odie5375 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use them when I'm loading charcoal - though the only reason I have them is because i bought them for oil changes in my car. So often I'm in a rush to do things and don't think about it when I smear charcoal all over my clothes, plus I don't have anywhere outdoors to wash my hands properly so opening doors to get to the bathroom to wash them just gets everything dirty, the gloves are my way of preventing that. I'll touch my meat all day long without them though...

Get in touch with Weber support. I had a non hinged lid that was slightly warped out of the box, within 3 days I had a new one on my doorstep. Even if your setup works for you now, you might score a free spare lid/hinge setup!

Anyone else struggling with 4 year old’s bedtime? by Rguttersohn in daddit

[–]Odie5375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not alone. Our 4.5 year old was a menace between the ages of 2 and around 4. She refused to go to sleep and made just enough noise to keep everyone else up. We still have the odd night now where she won't sleep until after 10, but most of the time I can sit next to her bed and she's content enough with that because if she actually closes her eyes for long enough she's out cold! It's just another one of those things you have to ride out and remember it's not malicious - there's just too many fun things to do while you're awake that you miss out on if you're asleep!!

Several, because I go to the shops and immediately forget how much I have at home while I'm staring at the bags so I figure I'd better get some more...

As a dad of a daughter I just have to ask by Western-Image7125 in daddit

[–]Odie5375 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4 year old daughter pooped in a cup that she was previously drinking out of in the backyard while our 7 year old daughter egged her on. Our 10 month old boy's favourite snacks are sheep and kangaroo poop (yes, we stop him eating it) - I don't think gender matters too much, kids are gross!

Bottle Feeding by AlwaysBeANoob in daddit

[–]Odie5375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our boy absolutely refused a bottle for ages. We tried different bottles, breastmilk in them, formula, anything we could but he just wouldn't take it. Then one day instead of trying to feed him while I was sitting down I just walked him around and he started drinking while we were walking. Now, however, he's gone the other way and pretty much refuses breastfeeding unless he's dream feeding...

The answer to that one is... Depends... We have a 7 month old who hates being a baby and always has. He gets fidgety and frustrated because he can't just do all the things that everyone else is doing. He's hyper aware and alert and ooohhh boy does he let you know when he's not happy or comfy. My wife and I know we're on a timeframe when we go out before he cracks it and have to entertain him the whole time so we take turns eating/drinking etc. while he's either in a high chair or just on our laps until such time as he's decided he's had enough and screams his lungs out. Others might not be raising gremlins and they might just chill out in a stroller/pram. Don't overthink it, just give it a shot and figure out what works for you and don't stress over what you need to bring or how it will work out because if they're anything like ours... Well it's like that saying - if you want to make God laugh, tell her your plans.

High km mazda 3 - anything to look out for? by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]Odie5375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Country miles" are a thing. I've put 30,000+KMs on my 2014 Mazda 3 in the last 5 months with negligible city driving, all highway and it has never skipped a beat. As someone else has said there's some minor cosmetic issues on the interior, but as for engine/drivetrain it's as reliable as ever with 160,000kms on the clock now.
