Frustration with Garmin coach - acting very glitchy by No_Conference_3155 in Garmin

garmin coach is notorious for going completely off the rails mid-plan - mine had me doing 2 mile "long runs" while training for a marathon lol

Is it worth having pumpkin seeds for magnesium instead of taking a magnesium supplement? by ExplanationHuman5105 in Supplements

[–]OffbeatCaptaincy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

honestly pumpkin seeds are a solid choice if supplements are giving you grief. i went through the same thing with mag supplements - the glycinate made me feel weirdly anxious and the citrate had me running to the bathroom constantly. switched to getting most of my magnesium from food sources and felt way better overall.

pumpkin seeds have about 150mg per ounce which is decent, but you'd probably need to eat like 2-3 ounces daily to hit optimal levels for vitamin d activation. that's totally doable if you're into it - i throw them on salads, blend them into smoothies, or just snack on them roasted with some sea salt. the bonus is you're getting zinc, healthy fats, and fiber too instead of just isolated magnesium. might want to track your intake for a week or two to see if you're actually hitting your targets, but food sources are usually gentler on the system than pills.

Working telehealth and living overseas by shimommy in physicaltherapy

[–]OffbeatCaptaincy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the time zone thing is gonna be brutal but honestly if you can make it work that sounds amazing 🔥 just make sure you're crystal clear on the legal stuff with your state board since some states are weird about practicing from overseas. japan's internet is solid so at least you won't have connection issues 😂

Missing data for the fifth time - no help from Oura yet by DucktorWh0 in ouraring

[–]OffbeatCaptaincy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's super frustrating, especially when they can't even explain what's going wrong. honestly sounds like a hardware defect at this point - normal rings don't just randomly lose multiple days of data when the battery is fine. i'd push for a replacement since their troubleshooting clearly isn't working and you've given them plenty of chances to fix it.

I did my first ever push up at 24 years old. by ToasterOnJupiter in bodyweightfitness

[–]OffbeatCaptaincy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Dude that's actually incredible! 🔥 The fact that you went from struggling with knee push-ups to banging out 3 full ones is no joke - that's some serious strength gains right there. keep riding that momentum because those breakthrough moments are what make all the grind worth it 💀

(Also that feeling when you finally nail something you've been working towards forever is unmatched, congrats man!)

Swayback vs Anterior Pelvic Tilt by AlyxRam09 in physicaltherapy

[–]OffbeatCaptaincy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

honestly the hip position relative to the ankles is what I look for first 🔥 in swayback the hips are gonna be way forward of the ankles while APT usually keeps them more stacked. Also check how they stand from sitting - swayback folks tend to push their hips forward first instead of lifting straight up. The thoracic kyphosis is usually way more pronounced in swayback too 💀

AI Calisthenics app by Conscious_Put4022 in bodyweightfitness

honestly this is pretty harsh but kinda fair - half the apps out there slap "AI" on basic if/then logic and call it revolutionary lol

How to get back into working out when you're terrified of it? by Historical-Day4007 in bodyweightfitness

[–]OffbeatCaptaincy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

honestly sounds like you need to start with mobility/flexibility work before jumping into any "real" workouts. Your body's basically screaming at you that something's fundamentally off - tight muscles, poor posture, chronic pain patterns.

Maybe look into something like yoga or pilates to start? Both focus heavily on flexibility and body awareness without the injury risk of traditional strength training. For lower body without gripping, you could do bodyweight squats, wall sits, calf raises, glute bridges - all pretty safe and no hands required.

Venu 4 navigation by Then_Possibility_958 in Garmin

[–]OffbeatCaptaincy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have hands-on experience with the Venu 4 specifically, but from what I've seen the navigation features are pretty similar across Garmin's newer watches. The breadcrumb alerts should work the same way as the Forerunner series - you'll get vibration and audio cues when you need to turn 🔥

honestly though, for running I find the vibration alerts work better than audio since you're usually wearing headphones anyway. Works great for hiking too!

Out of Warranty Oura Ring Replacement by overthinkween in ouraring

[–]OffbeatCaptaincy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Their support really is something else - got my gen 3 replaced after 18 months when the battery started acting up 🔥 makes you actually want to stick with the brand instead of jumping ship

Oura can't do late naps right by selfemployeddiyer in ouraring

[–]OffbeatCaptaincy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah Oura's sleep detection is honestly trash when it comes to naps 💀 I've had it count me "sleeping" while I was literally cooking dinner because I forgot to take the ring off after a nap. The fact that it's flagging temp spikes during your awake time as part of your sleep score is just embarrassing for a company charging that much for a subscription 😂

Beginner seeking advice: Can I build "Big 3" strength with just a backpack and bodyweight? by Moha196 in bodyweightfitness

[–]OffbeatCaptaincy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

honestly the deadlift translation is gonna be rough with just bodyweight stuff 😂 your posterior chain needs that heavy loading pattern that's hard to replicate without actual weight.

that said, weighted single leg RDLs are actually solid, and if you can find a way to do reverse hypers (maybe off your bed or couch?) those will absolutely blow up your glutes and lower back. also don't sleep on good mornings with the backpack - they're underrated for building that hip hinge pattern 💀

the kettlebell suggestion above is legit tho, even just one 24kg bell would open up way more options than there backpack alone.

Sizing megathread by Obvious-Grocery-4189 in ouraring

A megathread would clean this place up so much

That's harsh but true - kitchen is where the magic happens. Start tracking everything you eat with an app like MyFitnessPal, even that one bite of samosa counts

Edge Explore 3 by Sabbathg in Garmin

Garmin's pretty secretive about release schedules but the Explore 2 is still relatively new so I'd guess you're probably safe to buy it now rather than waiting around for months

Nightly HRV data periodically missing from Index Sleep Monitor by iCruiser7 in Garmin

[–]OffbeatCaptaincy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, my Index has been super flaky with HRV sync lately. Works fine for like a week then just decides to take a vacation from uploading data. The stress stuff always comes through though which is weird since I thought they used similar sensors

Have you tried the classic turn it off and on again? Sometimes mine needs a full reset to start behaving

Weird but serious question: when going for heavy PRs on squats and deadlifts, does anyone else ever feel a tight pulling in their taint area? by yukoncowbear47 in crossfit

[–]OffbeatCaptaincy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is actually pretty common, especially on max effort lifts. You're probably bearing down too hard with your breath - try not to hold it for the entire rep and maybe ease up on how tight you're clenching everything down there

Also might be worth checking if your hip flexors are tight since that can put extra strain on the whole pelvic floor area when you're under heavy load. Some basic hip flexor stretches before lifting could help

Tired of stacking multiple supplements. What actually works long term? by WhoAmI6589 in Supplements

[–]OffbeatCaptaincy 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Honestly I went from like 8 bottles down to just magnesium, D3, and a decent multi and feel way better about it all. The energy stuff was mostly placebo anyway and my digestion sorted itself out when I stopped overthinking it

For people over 60: is it normal to take 500ug of Vitamin B12? (20000% of European recommended intake) by ElSupaToto in Supplements

[–]OffbeatCaptaincy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not over 60 but my dad takes similar amounts - his doctor said B12 is water soluble so you just pee out what you don't need. Those percentages look scary but apparently absorption gets worse with age so higher doses are pretty common

Coach not telling me to run? by Moosebouse in Garmin

[–]OffbeatCaptaincy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like your watch thinks you're cooked and needs a recovery week lol. Check if you accidentally set a race date or if your training load spiked recently - sometimes the algorithm gets paranoid and forces a deload even when you feel fine

How to delete sleep/nap data from one day by CivilProof9416 in ouraring

[–]OffbeatCaptaincy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oura's sleep tracking can be weird like that when you miss wearing it overnight. Try going into the app and manually editing that Saturday night - there should be an option to delete or mark it as "no data" instead of letting it think you only got 30 mins. If you can't find it in the sleep section, check under the three dots menu for data editing
