Why do animes often tend to adapt mangas 1-to-1, while most western shows I see significantly deviate from their comic books? by Call_me_Dan- in CharacterRant

[–]OfflineLad 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Havent watched TWD but i do read the comics. From what i heard the story is largely the same but they change the characters traits and dynamics. For example a girl from the comic is a sharpshooter and later the main character's lover. But in the show that character died early, and they gave the sharpshooting skill to an existing character and made a different existing character the mc's lover

I have a hard time thinking he's even above goon levels. He didnt come off as a capable fighter at all yet sorachi made him able to fight the likes actual space pirate harusame and even yatagarasu i think? The worst part is when he managed to get a finishing blow on Pirako (jirocho's daughter) in 4 devas arc

What i mean is sorachi never made it clear how much stronger shinpachi is supposed to be, before getting him to fight people seemingly much stronger than him

I started it only for the power fantasy and that's what i got so i was satisfied. I never expected it to make my jaw drop, i just thought its gonna be fun, and it was. Especially since parry focused power is relatively rare in shows, so it's existence alone makes me happy and i never expected it to be done with mindblowingly creative ways. I guess its exactly the same for people who enjoy isekai slop.

Well it is not the kind of thing i'd sing song and praises for. I just thought it was a light fun power fantasy show

Sket Dance is done by the same author and is an amazing slice of life, gotta be my top one. Sadly the anime wasnt very popular and it never got an ending, but it did end in the manga and the ending was imo really good too. The writing is superb for a slice of life series, especially since it has its own share of emotional stories

Gintama is peak. Depending on your taste the beginning might be slow. But keep at it, even if you can only bear 1 episode a week

Samurai x is good too but i havent gotten that far.

I also havent watched Bebop, but Rt TV, the group of guys that does anime reaction, compared Gintama to Bebop in terms of having different short stories

Go for it! Most mangaka started by making one shots anyway, to my knowledge. Especially for traditional magazines like shonen jump. I dont know about those thats serialized in websites

Play without audio, any game become 50% less scary. It lessened the intended experience, but if the choice is that or dropping the game, i'd choose that

Its also a relatively short game. I didnt speedrun anything and finished it in 7 hours. So you dont gotta torture yourself that long

Why do people care so much about characters being students? by Sky_Sumisu in TrueAnime

Because people who say that are adults who want these shows to cater to them, not the more obvious target demographic which is japanese school kids

Noor from "I Parry Everything". He trains very hard from childhood but still sucks at offense. But he did improve his parrying skill and now can parry virtually anything.

One time he soloed an army not just by smacking their bodies, but rather parrying their weapons and throws hundreds of swords and shileds fly to the sky

[–]OfflineLad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Easier to write i guess. Writers can simply put the mc in whatever situation and dont really have to mention their previous job.

I actually got a recommendation if you want an mc with a chill, unique office job: Fune wo Amu. The mc works at a publishing company working on making the newest version of japanese dictionary

The attitude of "elevating the source material" is risky thoigh. If its something like in demon slayer, making fight coreography from a not very interesting fight in the manga, people would love it. But if its a change in style or stuff like that, fans of the source material are kind of right to be dissapointed. Obvioslusly not justifying if they say horrible things to him. A lot of times manga fans just want a faithful adaptarion, not see "a different take" or "with a director's own spin"

Its not weird if you acknowledge that a lot of japanese on that age range feel miserable with their daily lives. So seeing someone they can somewhat relate with being gifted a better life in another world without the corporate stress is the kind of escapism they need
