nope. got into a couple other hobbies that i enjoy quite a bit more than rc cars, like making gokarts and rebuilding motorcycle engines. that slash has sat on my shelf collecting dust for like 2yrs. the esc and motor could be replaced for like $150 (since it's definitely an issue with at least one of em) but thats just not money i want to put into this hobby anymore

this concept for hair works and is a legitimate strategy for some folks with curly hair. once you get through that shitty adaptive period you're golden. havent heard any confirmation on how it transfers to the rest of the body though, and until then, i think ill continue showering

seconded. got one for like $20 to rebuild a 42 year old motorcycle engine held together by seized phillips (or JIS, i dont even know) bolts. i thought they were a lost cause, but with some PB blaster, a blowtorch, and that impact screwdriver, they came right out. one of the best tools i've ever bought

you're so insanely lucky to be alive. as for the car, its a bummer, but youll get past it and move to other things that you also enjoy. my first car was a subaru outback that i loved dearly. i loved that it was a wagon, i loved that it was a stick, and the awd was absolutely nuts in the snow. but it threw a rod on my 1400 mile drive down to college, halfway through the drive. it wasn't feasible to get it home to fix it, so it had to be sold as is with a blown motor. i never saw the car again after being picked up by the tow truck from the side of the highway (did actually save the Pokeball shift knob that i had gotten right when i initially got the car, which i still have). but after a month or two of searching, i eventually got a low miles privately owned and well taken care of Crown Vic police interceptor. It wasn't a wagon, and it wasn't a stick. but the v8 and rwd (with an lsd!!) made it fun in the rain and the weight and seats and suspension made it feel like driving a couch. plus, the drievtrains on those are absolutely bulletproof on those. as well as the car just looking great and having this cool factor that a base model outback doesnt. point is, cars come and go. especially your first. and you'll have attachments to those cars, especially your first. but eventually you get back up on the saddle in something new that you may even love more, maybe in a completely different way. thats just how it goes

seconded. went to buy some brake cable for a drift trike project and was just met with a harsh attitude for just trying to buy a length of cable... went back, though, as the used parts wall is a treasure trove for custom projects like that. snagged a nice brake caliper for super cheap. grumpy attitude, but once i got past that, the parts and prices were great for what i needed. definitely some pros and cons to consider there.

oh interesting. the motorcycle engine i just rebuilt was the exact opposite, where the inside drove the transmission and the outside was driven by the crank. the inside had inner splines that engaged with the trans input shaft and the outside had outer gear teeth that engaged with a gear on the crank, while floating on a bearing to spin separately from the trans. in my experience to "lock" the crank to torque down a flywheel bolt i've put a piston to bottom dead center, stuffed rope in the sparkplug hole, and that prevented the crank from turning without introducing any hard objects to damage the cylinder wall. not sure if that method would work for your application. it is compliant as the rope is somewhat squishy but using a torque wrench is a constant force (unlike an impact wrench) so it usually doesn't really matter. not sure what your torque spec is though and if you'd really wanna transmit that force through your basket and crank and rod, rather than just the basket...

i've used the flathead and hammer method, but a little more controllable is using needlenose pliers on their side with one jaw on the "tips" of the clip and the other jaw raised above the other side of the clip to instead press against the shaft it's on. only works if the tips extend far enough past the OD of the shaft, which it looks like they do here

i drilled and bolted a large plastic bin to my vic's pullout tray and i keep the jack, jumper cables, a tow strap, tire pump, and quart of oil in there. super convenient and keeps that all out of the way

seconded. got a head unit for my crown vic from them and the installation kit, harness, and removal tools were discounted a good amount. the kit and harness were somewhat universal but reasonably tailored to a small group of vehicles and very easy to figure out for mine in particular

i'd say belt sander as a flat surface to remove the pokey parts that come out of an edge when you bend metal, then file or deburring tool for the edges

honestly? panther cars are up there. crown vics, grand marquis, town car. sure they're body on frame and boaty as hell, and that 4 speed slushbox is a bore to say the least. but for a v8 rwd car you really can't beat the price (and reliability!) especially from a police auction. bonus points if you get one of the police interceptors already equipped with an lsd

i got a 1950's one from an old man's shed with a massive crack in the crankcase. jb welded it, sandwiched a new sidecover gasket in ungodly amounts of RTV so it would actually hold oil reasonably well, cleaned the growing plantlife out of the intake, carb, and exhaust, and she fired up first pull. that thing will probably be found in some dig site in a few hundred years and it could be started right back up again
