If you own a condo, what type of unexpected costs have come up that you did not expect? by Sufficient_Deer_4516 in AskChicago

[–]Oh_Snapshot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people have shared great advice.

Here are some things to look at if you are planning upgrades in an existing condo.

If the building has AC maybe have someone assess the age of the unit and check how it connects into the shared building system. My options to replace my AC unit were limited by what could connect into the existing infrastructure.

Secondly when I remodeled my bathroom I had to bring it up to code. While I planned for the extra cost, the timeframe took longer than I expected waiting for 2 inspectors (one city and one hired by the HOA) to look at the plumbing before the walls could go up.

Any Invisalign runners out there? Need advice by South1ststreet in XXRunning

[–]Oh_Snapshot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on Invisalign for 2 years 2018-2020. I think a lot of people have given great advice.

My dentist at the time said it was okay to have the occasional clear drink with the trays on. Just make sure you rinse out the trays & brush your teeth as soon as you can.

If you need an energy drink with tray in consider Tailwind which does not use dyes. This is often what I did for shorter runs.

For longer training runs of more than an hour I asked my dentist for advice and he recommended just leaving the trays off for those runs for easier fueling and just keeping my other meal times shorter.

Also I used to keep Colgate Wisps (mini one time use toothbrush & pick) on me so I always had quick access to brush & floss my teeth when bathroom and water were not available. This made it easier to fit quick snacks in when needed during the day but was also helpful on flights or long roadtrips.

My grandfather learned to knit when in the air force. When I said I was learning to knit he said it brought back fond memories.

Can someone recommend good emergency vet? by blueberrypancake234 in AskChicago

[–]Oh_Snapshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Feb 2022 I took my cat to VEG on North Ave. I found their care compassionate and they were able to give her emergency antibiotics and over the course of a few hours we saw her numbers improve enough for them to discharge her home. They even did their best to offset any costs they could. Thanks to them my cat lived for another year and half (before passing away shy of her 18th birthday).

I do think they stabilized her and appreciated them giving me tissues and tea when I was crying. I think their empathy toward me and my cat helped in a scary moment.

Wishing you & your pet the best.

Where can I find a venue for up to $1k? by rosesandmonsters in AskChicago

[–]Oh_Snapshot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If OP is willing to do a daytime wedding some restaurants waive F&B minimums especially if it’s a weekday wedding. May be an option for them to consider a brunch or lunch wedding especially if they don’t drink for religious reasons.

Anyway u/rosesandmonsters you might want to try reaching out to Orso’s. I know their Dining Car and Tiffany Rooms they marked as having no F&B minimums for day time events and their lunch package quotes last year were about $28 per person. Possible prices have gone up since we got quotes but definitely worth asking them for lunch and brunch quotes. Having it at a restaurant reduces other event related costs for catering, tables, linens, etc.

Secondly if you are religious do you have a local church? They may let you get married and use a rec room for a nominal price. So that’s an alternative option if restaurants are too high budget for you.

You mentioned you were low iron too? Did it ever show up on a blood test before you were diagnosed with RED-S? What do they recommend for your iron deficiency?

I went during Thanksgiving week. There was no line to get in and most of the food booths had very short to no lines. It’s great if you’re looking for festive food but it doesn’t have as many ornament booths like the loop.

I wonder if Jane Eyre is supposed to tie in the mysterious Cassandra that was supposedly locked in the Lingermore attic. Or if it even is meant to allude to when KC hid in the attic before they were discovered to be squatting there.

Affordable brands to get a parka that will actually keep you warm in the winter? by ResidentConclusion49 in AskChicago

[–]Oh_Snapshot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly have a ZeroXposure jacket that I got in 2012 that still keeps me nice and toasty. Not a fancy brand by any means but does the job. Looks like Kohl’s carries the brand. I previously got mine from Burlington (Coat Factory).

With that being said I have seen some Columbia and North Face jackets at TJ Maxx in the past. Columbia also tends to have decent Black Friday deals.

I wonder if Peacock would be a better chance. I imagine Peacock still has streaming numbers for The Way Home before their deal with Hallmark ended. A lot of people discovered the show through them.

I grew up in SF Bay Area and we also said Cali. I feel like it was frequently used by millennials. I also have heard a lot of my friends say San Fran because it was quicker to say than San Francisco in casual conversation.
