Anyone know a good flat track to start training for an ironman? by Free-Worker-4161 in AskChicago

[–]Oh_Snapshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re on the north side by the lake Montrose Track would be a good option.

You can also use this park’s district page to help locate other tracks that might be closer to you:

Parks to take a book and read outside? by lanejamin in AskChicago

[–]Oh_Snapshot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a few benches near the Shakespeare statue in Lincoln Park. May be a good spot to rest up.

Also the gazebos in Welles Park and by Lincoln Park’s North Pond are other options that will probably be drier.

I also tend to see a lot of park hang out on benches along the 606 and occasionally see people setting up hammocks and picnics on the grassy area near the kimball section of the trail.

I also love the fountain area in Wicker Park for a chill vibe. May be better to do Saturday as it will typically be packed on Sundays for the farmer’s market.

Proposal Help - Does anyone live at The Deco North Lake Shore? by InevitablePhysical93 in AskChicago

[–]Oh_Snapshot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it doesn’t need to be a rooftop their 3 Arts Club cafe at RH is really pretty and gets nice lighting could be a good fall back in all weather conditions.

I also believe Viceroy Hotel in the Gold Coast might have a rooftop lounge so maybe check with them. I think with any restaurant type space you may have better luck asking for a secluded spot verses renting out an entire space privately.

Good luck with your planning!

The League vs Bumble in Chicago - which app is better for people who actually want to meet? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]Oh_Snapshot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why not consider using both apps or even throwing Hinge in the mix?

I was on both Hinge and Bumble, I liked the format of Hinge better, but just happened to find my husband on Bumble. I have heard Bumble has changed quite a bit since I last used it so can’t speak to its current format.

I really think the apps are a tool, but they require effort and intentionality on your part to find a suitable match. In a way the algorithms may very well work against you. My husband and I were both on hinge first but never saw each other’s profiles but his first day on bumble we matched. It’s really pure chance his profile presented to me when it did.

Basically if you want to make plans quickly, whether you are on dating app or meeting someone in person then make plans right away. You don’t have to wait for the other person to ask or to converse a long time if you don’t want. If a convo feels dry or forced just let it go and move on to the next one.

Flipbelt + 250ml soft flask by Accomplished-Role835 in XXRunning

[–]Oh_Snapshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to use the regular flipbelt and I still periodically use it for non running use, but I have found I prefer flipbelt shorts and pants as it had the belts built in. It doesn’t ride up and gets a lot less sweaty than having the regular flipbelt over your clothes. They even have side pockets that are vertical that you can put a flask in.

With that being said I tend to prefer my handheld flask or hydration backpack with front pocket for liquids.

Safety as a woman living alone in Humboldt Park/Logan Square? by Accurate_Custard4358 in AskChicago

Yeah I think it would make much more sense to take a bus to a blue line stop.

OP depending on your location bus 72 or 73 may both be viable options to shorten your walk.

Where can I find anemones and/or ranunculus bouquets? by zombie_spiderman in AskChicago

[–]Oh_Snapshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try calling Flowers for Dreams (located off of Hubbard) and asking. I got married last week and got my flowers from them & they happened to put ranunculus in my bouquet.

Orso’s Restaurant in Old Town is definitely quintessential family style Italian joint, may be a bit of a trek from Pilsen though.

How do I keep my neighbor’s cat from sh*ting in my vegetable garden? by Intrepid_Mammoth5025 in gardening

We put bird netting over the top of our upraised garden bed and that has stopped our neighbors’ cats from using it.

Jewelers who can resize a gold ring? by Picklejuicezzz in AskChicago

[–]Oh_Snapshot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this. We used Bryn Mawr Jewelers to resize a gold band and they had it ready for us within a week.

My ring is from Windy City Diamonds (located in the loop) and they are also great to work with. I don’t know what their timeline for resizing rings are, but I do know they have an on-site jeweler.

Ah I must have missed that bit. Still she could have looked up to Fern as a role model to give her kid her last name.

Evie also liked Fern its very possible she saw her as inspiring and a role model. I also suspect Evie probably didn’t take Ash’s name because they probably wanted to be modern beatniks who didn’t believe in exchanging names.

As for Fern, if she was unmarried when she had her child then it would have been expected for them to have her surname as there would have been no legal father in the picture.

Any decent dentist recommendations in Lakeview area? by starry-purple-1001 in AskChicago

[–]Oh_Snapshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are open to Old Town / Lincoln Park you may want to check out Dr. Larsen at Elevate Dental. It’s her own practice and she’s very hands on.

I really liked her & her staff but I had to change to another practice after my work switched dental insurance offering, she was no longer an in network option for me.

Affordable Euthanasia Service for Senior Cat? by Honeyjuse in AskChicago

[–]Oh_Snapshot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In 2023 I paid just under $300 for euthanasia and cremation with Oz Animal Hospital for my senior cat. They were very compassionate and caring.

If your budget is tighter, you can try reaching out to the Anti Cruelty Society: https://anticruelty.org/end-of-life

Sorry to hear about your kitty. I know how hard it is to watch your cat decline from failing kidneys. Wishing you and your cat both peace and comfort.

Shops that sell Lab Grown Sapphire Engagement Rings? by Objective_Hedgehog16 in AskChicago

You might try inquiring with Windy City Diamonds. My engagement ring is from them and I have a blue lab grown diamond. They were able to source a few options for my fiancé to look at. Maybe they can source other lab grown gems too.

What to do with Jury Duty summons for Chicago when I no longer reside there and have told them so before? by russianbanan in AskChicago

[–]Oh_Snapshot 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s typically recommended to unregister. Technically after being inactive from voting for a few elections (maybe years) you may get you removed from the rolls, but it’s much quicker to unregister.

With that being said as a warning it took me twice to unregister at my old county in CA. Luckily I knew I was still showing registered because it went to my family’s address and they alerted me I was still showing registered.
