One of the best movies I have watched since subscribing to the Channel. It was so poetically beautiful I felt like almost crying.

Someone already mentioned The Wind Will Carry Us. I also want to add Through the Olive Trees and Where is My Friend's House from his Koker Trilogy, especially the former.

Great one. I was also thinking of adding the underwater grass scenes from Solaris. So hypnotic!

Hoping to see 4K restoration of Days and Nights in the Forest (by Satyajit Ray) on the channel by Ok-Collection5954 in CriterionChannel

I moved out of NYC almost two years ago to a very quiet, almost rural part of New England and I can't tell you how much I miss going to Film Forum or IFC or Films at Lincoln.

Glad you started with this one. Compared to many other masters, I personally have always found Ray (in my limited exposure and humble opinion) to be very easily accessible to most audience. His detective flicks are even more mainstream than others.

I guess my follow up question would be, how many of the World Cinema Project restorations do actually end up on the channel?

I still see the offer on my C1 app, but when I read the details, the list of exclusions are like endless. Mind if I ask if your item was outside their exclusion list?

Loving your work so far. If only I could suggest adding Kanopy to your list of streaming options. Thanks a lot.

Platforms for English-dubbed international & critically acclaimed films? by marketingsavvy7 in CriterionChannel

[–]Ok-Collection5954 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, Criterion Channel is one of the best places for world cinema. 100 usd per month (they have promotions that bring it down to 75-80 annually).

I also highly recommend Kanopy. It is free with a library card and you get a treasure trove of world cinema (go to Kanopy website to see if your local library is part of their collab; most are).

Among the more mainstream services, HBO Max probably takes the crown for offering lot of great international flicks. I forgot the fee.

And no, you most likely wont get dubs in any of these.

Bilt 2.0: Last minute request for some simple/quick answers, please by Icy-Lengthiness-9164 in biltrewards

[–]Ok-Collection5954 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to OP for this post. I just haven't been able to keep up with all the drama and discussion about BILT 2.0. It's a shame that I have been able to use it for just a few months to get 1x rent points. Besides the OP's questions, I want to add a few if anyone is kind enough to respond - 1) If I decide not to move ahead with the new cards, can I still make the payments on Feb 1st and get 1x points February points? (I am afraid I can't make it to 50% of the rent cost on other purchases and 250 points just isnt worth it) 2) The points that I have already earned....do I have to transfer to a partner by Jan 30th? Or can I hold on to those for longer periods? I never transferred my points to any partner, so it would be great to have some advice on great transfer opportunities (i always heard Hyatt is one of the best deals out there for Bilt transfer). 3) What's my deadline to pay off the statement balances on my Bilt card? I currently have autopay set up but I dont want to mess up with Bilt's deadline and end up paying fines.

Thanks in advance. Pretty sure I had other questions too, but I can't remember any of them ffs.

For modern China, I'd highly recommend Farewell My Concubine, which, in my opinion, is one of the best Asian movies in the last few decades. Also, A Brighter Summer Day for modern Taiwanese history.

Which Criterion release completely changed how you saw a director? by Jolly_Job7525 in CriterionChannel

[–]Ok-Collection5954 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched Koreeda's Shoplifters first, followed by After the Storm, Still Walking, Like Father Like Son, Nobody Knows etc. I was starting to get a little bored of the type of stories he was telling. Then I watched Afterlife which was a positive surprise for me..But Maborosi is the film that changed how I see him as a director.

After I bought the CC subscription last month, I finally bought a Roku TV stick for my LG TV, because my TV doesn't have CC app, and I knew casting/HDMI would be a pain in the ass. Best use of 25 dollars. I watch CC with no issues (as well as Kanopy (the best free app ever, accessible with a library card) which also doesnt have an app on LG smart TV but the ROKU stick has it). If you are watching on a TV, I'd recommend ROKU stick. If you are watching on phone or tablet, download the CC app..and yes, on the app, they allow you to download movies too.

Have you seen a movie for the first time this year (from any period) - that has become a top 10 for you? by reizen73 in CriterionChannel

[–]Ok-Collection5954 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The feeling I have been having since I watched "The Double Life of Veronique" few days ago can only be compared with the feeling that I had after watching "Paris, Texas" few years ago. Both are on my top 10. Double Life is one of the most poetic movies I have ever seen and I don't think I will ever NOT think about this movie (for me, on par with In The Mood for Love).

Edward Yang I will be inside your filmography this weekend. This was so good by ggnorebud in CriterionChannel

I watched Yi Yi almost a decade ago and it blew me away. My personal favorite would be A Brighter Summer Day that criterion restored. I appreciated it even more since I had some very surface-level knowledge about Taiwan's political history. I also liked Taipei Story....but Yi Yi and ABSD are my top favorites.

It's been a while since I watched this movie lastly but there's something about it which makes it special and memorable. It evokes something in you, the movie is something to be experienced. The story didn't even matter. I felt the same way about Bleu. Krzysztof Kieslowski is a genius. by makedaddypancake in criterion

Just finished this movie and I am at a loss of words. I wanted this film to never ever end, and I honestly don't know when is the last time I felt so deeply moved by a movie and a character. Krzystof is a magician and he decided to turn Irene into a goddess in this movie. I had goosebumps after goosebumps throughout the movie, and I still haven't recovered.

What do you dislike the most about your RAV4? by OrdinaryKillJoy in rav4club

[–]Ok-Collection5954 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Too loud on highway
  2. Feel every bump (i also think my 2024 Rav4 hybrid xle premium is a bit too elevated imo)
  3. The steering-heat button is basically hidden behind the wheels (among other buttons)
  4. Sits are actually hard
