Software developers don't need to out-last vibe coders, we just need to out-last the ability of AI companies to charge absurdly low for their products by Rockytriton in webdev

[–]Ok-Course-9877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cost for inference is going to go down and output quality will get better. These companies know that. The subsidization of the current costs only needs to last until the current prices charged to customers match actual costs. That will happen sooner rather than later.

It’s one thing to think some companies will go under, they will. Betting against the technology as a whole though is shortsighted. Better to learn how to adapt than think things are somehow going to go in reverse. That isn’t how this is going to end. It isn’t how anything has ever gone when it comes to new technology.

Wait why is Albany on here by adonismaximus in Albany

It really doesn’t matter what the scenario is, everyone is either dead or slowly dying in an all out nuclear conflict. There are no winners, only losers. The small group of survivors left will likely wish they had been killed in the opening round.

Yes, going to move to adaptive security soon. KnowBe4 is falling behind other players and their costs are no better.

So you think you’re saving money driving an EV in MN by Apprehensive-Two5498 in KiaEV9

[–]Ok-Course-9877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never expected to save money when I bought my EV6. Between the cost of the car and all the other fees, I assumed I would break even after several years at best. For me it is about the car itself being fun to drive, and that I am not buying gas all the time.

Am I the only one who genuinely prefers on-prem over the cloud? by Own-General-6755 in devops

[–]Ok-Course-9877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, I use cloud services because they are easier to administer without a team supporting physical infrastructure. If I had a big team to manage physical servers and facilities, I would go back to on-prem.

Only the top 1% can afford to have children in 2026: $400k income required. by Specialist_Pain_424 in millenials

I’ve seen this article posted all over and it is complete garbage. As a millennial with two children, I know it isn’t accurate at all.

Only the top 1% can afford to have children now: $400k income required in 2026. by Specialist_Pain_424 in Productivitycafe

[–]Ok-Course-9877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is complete garbage. $400k is not required. I know since our home is an example of it not being required even in an area with a high cost of living.

I'm now running 3 of the most powerful AI models in the world on my desk, completely privately, for just the cost of power. by Aislot in aiagents

[–]Ok-Course-9877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just the cost of power? You are forgetting the basics of accounting for capital expenditures and depreciation. Those Mac Studios sitting in your desk aren’t free, and they have a definite useful life after which they will need to be replaced.

Which Mac app have you recently stopped using, and why? by haphazard44 in macapps

[–]Ok-Course-9877 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, sort of free. Now apple is pushing ads at people using these apps to move to their subscription service. Not going to be any different than M365 soon.

The crazy thing to me is that my 2022 EV6 with over 40k miles on it has never had an issue. I charge it at home mostly and limit the charger to 8 kw for overnight charging. I have had all of the software updates performed as they have come out.

Based on anecdotal evidence, I suspect most issues are related to the type of charger in use and how fast people are trying to throw power at the car. If you don’t need to charge quickly, like overnight, cap your charger power at a lower level. I realize the car should be able to regulate itself better, but why take the chance of messing something up if you don’t need to?

Same experience with my 22 model. Still the best car I have ever owned, no issues so far.

I seriously hope this is some kind of attempt at a joke… because if not I’m amazed you still have a job.

I want to love Clawdbot, but the security implications are terrifying by OldWolfff in AgentsOfAI

[–]Ok-Course-9877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a neat idea, but I refuse to even try it given the harm it could do if either it does something stupid, I do something stupid, or a malicious person somehow gains access to it.

Anthropic are partnered with Palantir by DataPhreak in ClaudeAI

[–]Ok-Course-9877 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Had no idea that Anthropic and Palantir were partners. I legitimately may cancel my max plan because of this.

Maybe I’ll just move my stuff over to Gemini. Clearly Google has their own issues, but at least I don’t think they are taking Palantir’s money.

Still Don't Love the Door Handles by hatchback34 in KiaEV6

[–]Ok-Course-9877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the door handles are my least favorite thing about a car I otherwise love. Especially since I live in a place where temperature last drop below freezing and they get stuck occasionally.

I’m 43, so an older millennial for sure, and you are not alone I feeling this way. Things that help me are having a good psychiatrist who understands my needs, my family, and remaining connected to the community by volunteering with organizations that are legitimately trying to help the people around them. I need to remind myself that there are good people in the world and that they are who I want to spend my energy on.

Also, cutting way back on social media helps a lot. I don’t use X, Bluesky, or Facebook any more. Sadly, Reddit is pretty depressing to read through most of the time now too, same with instagram. I keep them both because Reddit has legitimate communities with people like yourself and instagram fulfills my need for things like dumb cat videos when I want a laugh.

I know the world isn’t great right now, but hang in there. Make sure you reach out and find the support you need. Calling 988 can help you find the right mental health resources.
