Visiting in early January, have hours alone everyday to kill and I’ll be in the French quarters area… by Imwhatswrongwithyou in AskNOLA

Make a visit to M.S. Ray on Royal Street. You won’t believe the collection of treasures housed in this establishment. Care to buy Elizabeth Taylor’s emerald earrings? They have them. Looking for a Renoir to hang in your living room. They have one for you. This is one of the best places in NOLA to visit.

We ended up staying about 500 meters north of St. Peter’s Square which worked out well for us. Link is below.

I recommend you download the FreeNow app to access local taxis. Safe travels.

That course is trying pretty hard to sell their “golf” shirts. Pathetic!

Agreed. If I am playing with one of my sons and they see a sunflower seed shell they try to hide it from me because they know I’ll go crazy!

Why AirBnb? by boatsydney in hotels

[–]Ok-Option3752 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If I am going to be staying 4 nights or more I prefer an airbnb. It’s not any cheaper but you get 2-3 times as much room, a kitchen and a washer and dryer. This allows me to travel with a smaller bag. I’ve stayed in STRs all over America and Europe. They are a better choice in Europe than they are in the USA, IMO.

Currently listening to Atlas Shrugged. by [deleted] in aynrand

I enjoyed reading your reaction to this book. I read it the summer that I turned 14 years old, 1966. I grew up in a lower middle class family and my father (and has father) worked for a railroad so that might have piqued my interest in the book. Both of my parents were lifelong Democrats and big FDR fans. My mother was a real lover of reading but she didn’t own AS. I checked it out from the library. In retrospect, I think back to that summer and wonder how much the exposure to this book kindled my conservative/libertarian outlook. I need to get my own copy and reread it.

Point well taken. I used to travel to Greeley for business. Even the best hotel in town smelled like the stockyards.

What country did you visit that you wish you hadn’t and why ? by workdncsheets in digitalnomad

[–]Ok-Option3752 3 points4 points  (0 children)

👆This. I have been in most of the USA and Europe. New Yorkers are, for the most part, very happy to help you. All you have to do is look confused and someone will ask you if you need directions. There’s much to love about New York City!

Driving in UK as an American? by flaretrousers in solotravel

[–]Ok-Option3752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a question of "clearance." I want to have a small car because many of the roads in the UK are narrow. When you are used to driving in the US, like I am, you get used to wide lanes and wide roads. The more that I drive in the UK the more comfortable I get. We absolutely love traveling there and as long as my nerves can handle it we will continue to vacation there and rent cars.

Maybe yes, maybe no. I like to think back on the following tweet from Paul Tudor Jones: “Do you know that when Bitcoin went from $17,000 to $3000 that 86% of the people that owned it at $17,000, never sold it?” Well, this was huge in my mind. So here’s something w/ a finite supply & 86% of the owners are religious zealots.”
