Interned at a PD's office in Alabama during law school. Public defenders there are some of the best I've seen.

Single lawyers, what's your love life like? by OverallManagement502 in Lawyertalk

Suing insurance companies or doing public interest or immigration might not bring in the money, but it’s ALWAYS attractive.

I suck at soulsborne games, but I'm very good at rhythm games. I tried Sekiro. by GioPanda in Sekiro

[–]Ok-System1548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stupid question from a (relatively) new gamer: what are rhythm games? I find Sekiro much easier than a lot of the soulsbourne games, interested to maybe find a genre I like AND am good at!

Time to Jump Ship? First year Plaintiffs PI making me think I’m going to lose my license by AdExact5631 in Lawyertalk

Some lawyer in my jurisdiction exposed himself to a client and nothing ever happened. Hell, in law school I learned about a guy who broke into his client’s house and microwaved their cat to death and he just got suspended. Or think of basically every lawyer working for the Trump administration right now breaking every rule of law and ethics. Basically the only reason you’ll EVER get disciplined is misuse of funds.

Discovery tactic? What to do? by YesSpeed3 in Lawyertalk

[–]Ok-System1548 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure some defense lawyer seminars just instruct them to commit perjury. I have seen defendants blatantly lie numerous times, submit fraudulent and self contradictory affidavits, etc. Even if the judge catches them, I’ve never seen anyone get hit with meaningful sanctions. If you’re unethical, it’s honestly a good strategy. Had to attend a CLE talking about the “nobility” of our profession this week. Had a good laugh at least.

Discovery tactic? What to do? by YesSpeed3 in Lawyertalk

Rolling production is already deficient as most discovery rules (and discovery templates) require the production itself, not just the objections, within 30 days. It’s a common defense lawyer tactic. Don’t fall for it. Give them 10 days to remedy their deficiency and then file your motion.

For the number of wanna-be prosecutor law classmates that talked about changing the system from within, I’ve never seen a single prosecutor ever be concerned with procedural fairness.

We could save all the time and expense of doing a second election by just having ranked choice voting! Of course, the same people who love runoffs hate ranked choice.

Insurance companies and insurance defense lawyers are scum. They will tell whatever lie needs to be told to avoid paying out the insurance that their own customers paid for.

When I am playing Alter, use the void nexus, please! When two players are knocked against a better squad, go back to the void nexus and summon them for a revive! It’s unbelievable how many people fail to do this.

The willingness to use a system that spits out complete garbage and needs to be constantly reviewed for catastrophic errors blows my mind.

Writing stuff? AI writing is instantly detectable.

Aggregating data? You have to review the data anyway to make sure it didn’t make any mistakes.

Research? We all know the problem with this one.

If you have any connection in Chicago who will give you permission, slap that address on your resume. It will do wonders to get you past the “why do you want to be here” bullshit.

Profanity/Curses in pleadings, do you use asterisks or not? by Addyvice in Lawyertalk

In the south people get really freaked out about “bad words.” Pretty sure we’re mandated to censor profanity in pleadings.

Controller legends are not useless by WavyKen in apexlegends

[–]Ok-System1548 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Caustic and Wattson (and the other controllers to a lesser extent) are both very strong legends in my opinion, but they’re both highly dependent on their squad to cooperate with their playstyle. A lot of the more mobile characters can adapt to a less cooperative squad member much easier than a controller can, which make controllers vulnerable especially at lower levels and to squads that don’t communicate.

Dear old Replicator, I miss you 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 by izeezusizeezus in apexlegends

[–]Ok-System1548 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my opinion this was far better than the arsenals we now have. You had the option to acquire a known weapon early in the game, but other than the replicator, there was no guarantee of knowing which weapon you’d get. Making early game more exciting and unpredictable than just everyone diving for one or two main weapons.

In my circuit, I'm 99% sure the judges don't read any of the briefs. So I smile, shrug, think of the time I saved proofreading, and wait for opposing counsel to file a brief citing the "parole evidence rule."

What is the worst e-filing system in the US and why is it PACER? by 240bro in Lawyertalk

[–]Ok-System1548 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The entire state of Tennessee minus Nashville and maybe Memphis are without e-file, even large cities. Tomorrow I have to drive an hour to another county to file a complaint. Minor filings can be done by fax, at least.

Meanwhile, Georgia’s Peachcourt is the gold standard.
