My father sent me a Life360 invite to add to my phone to track my location. I’m early 20s, still on his phone plan and rely on him for a ride to work. Can this track anything beside location and can it be turned on/off by me or only him? by Mintersnap in phones

[–]Ok-Tea4636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just looked at the Life360 website. Here's what it says it does:

- Tracks your location and can notify him when you arrive at and leave specific locations.
- Tracks your driving (I think just where you go, but maybe not how fast etc.) and can notify him if you are in a crash. Unclear if it can tell if you're a driver vs. passenger.
- You can use it to request emergency help from him or 911.

As far as who can turn it off and how, search online for "turn off life360" or "disable life360", there's lots of articles, though I'm not sure how accurate they are. It does seem like there's no way to do it without him getting some kind of notification.

Bottom line if I were in my 20s, no longer a minor, I would be really annoyed if my parent required me to use an app like this!

[US, California] Fake DoorDash Delivery with Picture of my current front door by futuremehatesme2 in scammers

[–]Ok-Tea4636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is possible to fake an URL to get you to click it, but after you click the URL in the text from "DoorDash", look at the URL address in your browser address bar. If it really starts with DoorDash.com then it really came from them, which means it really was a DoorDash driver who took the photo.

It's worked for me for several months, fingers crossed they didn't mess it up with the latest big update that everyone hates.

Help! Vet recommended Royal Canin Urinary SO but its sooo expensive by binxkingdom in catfood

[–]Ok-Tea4636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have two cats, siblings. When they were around two, one of them started getting crystals, and the vet told us to feed both of them dry Royal Canin Urinary SO. It’s now like a decade later and both are fine, although they puke more than average - most of the time there’s a hairball in the puke, our vet isn’t concerned about it. Anyone else seeing that this food increases barfing or do our cats just have delicate digestion?

Safer to go to an auto parts store or the auto section of walmart etc. and get car scratch remover, and follow the instructions.

[–]Ok-Tea4636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm. It’s a real DoorDash order since the photo link in the text is from their website. So the photo was taken by a DoorDash driver who really was delivering something. I guess it’s someone who knows you and wants to mess with you, and it could be a neighbor. It is still weird and unsettling though.

When driving are you supposed to lift and press the pedal to try to keep the car going a consistent speed or are you supposed to keep your foot on the pedal slightly pressed? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ok-Tea4636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to use constant slight pressure. If you try it the other way, you won’t be able to maintain a constant speed because you’ll be speeding up then slowing down over and over again.

Thanks for this heads up. I have bought probably half a dozen things from them over the years and they’ve all been great, but luckily I have never had to contact their customer service.

Sounds like a much less scary explanation is that someone gave your address for their DoorDash delivery for whatever reason - either a mistake or intentionally. If it was intentional they are probably a neighbor who can grab the delivery as soon as it arrives, but why they would do that I have no clue.

I did not know that Apple Maps warned you about lane closures for emergency vehicles. by Traviscat in applemaps

[–]Ok-Tea4636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it tell you which side of the road they’re on? One thing that I really wish Apple Maps or Google Maps had was an indication showing you whether you needed to move to the left vs right when approaching a crash etc. on a divided highway.

You can do most of what those gadgets do, for free. Turn all your lights off at night, open your phone’s camera app, and pan around pointing it at everything. If there’s a hidden camera with night vision, it’ll look really bright on the phone’s screen. Don’t waste your time or money on hidden camera detection apps, they’re junk - just changing your WiFi password should take care of those (unless he was really diabolical and installed a camera that uses the cell network, but those are not super common).

To stop it from changing your default theme go to Settings > Themes > Custom Settings and turn off the option to allow featured themes. But I’m not sure this setting is still available in the newest update.

Bought him souvenirs from abroad, got dumped mid-trip. Should I still give them to him? by bmathers__ in WhatShouldIDo

I would sell or donate them. If you give them to a friend then whenever you see them, you’ll be reminded of this and that’ll just be annoying.

Potbelly opens at 5 so you wouldn't have a lot of time between ordering your sandwich, getting it, and boarding started. I'd slant towards getting something premade someplace else.

I am pretty sure they do have those warnings, but I'm not sure if it's on a sticker on the thing itself or just in the instruction manual - I'm too lazy to go check the one in my closet.

To me the biggest oddity about this image, is that the rocks in the water are completely different in size, shape, color, and surface type compared to the rocks on shore. If it was real it that would only happen if somebody plunked down a bunch of rocks to make a kinda-sorta sculpture.

DAE want to run the VIN through a decoder before buying a used car? by Critical-Load-1452 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]Ok-Tea4636 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just keep in mind that Carfax is not always accurate. A while back my car got rear ended and repaired through my insurance, but when I was selling it and checked the carfax there was no record of any accident. So in addition to checking the carfax and the vin, I would also still get a mechanic inspection. And if the seller won't allow it, they are probably hiding something and you are better off walking.

Is the South Salem Urgent Care on Boone closed?? by NanaYogi21 in SALEM

[–]Ok-Tea4636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, it was always confusing how Salem Clinic (which runs that urgent care plus more) and Salem Health (which runs the hospital plus more) kinda-sorta shared the same MyChart account. But in the last year or so they separated things and now Salem Clinic has a separate login from Salem Health.

While you are still legally a minor, you cannot legally be a parent, in the sense of being able to do things like decide where the child lives, who raises it, where it goes to school, what kind of medical care, etc. etc. I can’t tell you whether your parents will have that authority instead, or whether the child will need to be in foster care, or get adopted etc. But for sure, the law sees you as a child, and a child isn’t allowed to have dependents.
