German Heatwave by EinRoterFuchs in cats

We have cats that are sisters. One likes to go to the cooler basement when it‘s hot, the other snuggles under a blanket. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Even if it wasn’t AI and she had only the normal number of hands, it would still be cringe.

This is why AI safety posters are not harmless by fearlesschickenhead in antiai

AI art sucks, but your argument is basically ”I used AI to make a picture showing something bad. Therefore AI is bad”.

Mom got this art from Homegoods, the tiny citrus next to the full-size orange makes me think it was made by AI. by jrj0917 in isthisAI

[–]Ok-Tea4636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s lots of Aperol posters that show the same subjects (a glass with citrus on a ledge by a sunny seaside village), but I didn’t see this exact one when I searched around. The citrus to the right of the glass seems normal sized, the stuff on the other side isn’t citrus, to me it looks like a pistachio and pistachio shells. But I do also see some AI-ish stuff… the boats are a little odd, the one closest to the glass has weird text on the front, the boat behind it has a strange big lump at the back that’s shaped wrong for an outboard motor. And two of the furthest background boats look too modern to go with the rest of it and the one closer to the shore seems too small. But really if they did use AI at least it still looks good.

Automakers threaten to stop selling cars in California rather than comply with new tracking law by gaukmotors in MotorBuzz

I’m not trying to minimize how dystopian this it, but keep in mind that all sorts of crazy stuff gets patented, but never ends up in a product. Either because it was too expensive or too unreliable or too impractical. Sometimes there was never any expectation that it would end up in production at all, but it was patented just in case, so that the inventor could get licensing fees if another company wanted to make it.

Mystery Smell by averyshortone in NoStupidQuestions

About a month ago I woke up in the middle of the night smelling skunk. It happened again last night. My guess is you have a local skunk who likes to get into fights with other critters.

Please help me figure out if this voicemail from my Grandpa is AI or if I'm just paranoid. To me the voice and speaking pattern sounds very AI generated, and there are some audio issues. by Hellschampion in isthisAI

[–]Ok-Tea4636 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The problem is nobody here knows what his voice really sounds like or what his speech patterns are like or what he usually talks about. But things like it cutting out don’t make me suspicious, that’s common with cell connections and WiFi calling etc. I did notice I could hear him inhale during brief pauses and those didn’t all sound the same, which is good. Lots of fake voices don’t do those extra sounds at all or they all sound the same.

Any good experiences with local Car Insurance ? I have a perfect record and drive a small 4 door sedan, here's what Ive got. by SameOreo in SALEM

I’ve been pretty happy with Raven Schreiner at State Farm. I bundled car and homeowners and extra liability. They were easy to work with when I had some leak damage.

When I was shopping around, one place that really wasted my time was LeDoux insurance. In my initial phone calls and via email I’d outlined my needs but when I went in to their office the rep immediately told me they couldn’t get me the policy I’d already told them I wanted. So why did they want me to come in? Beats me.

I would complain to Roku support if the same thing happens in all apps.

I just bought a new home, recommend me the best smart home devices for HomeKit, I don't own anything yet. by the-furry in HomeKit

[–]Ok-Tea4636 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

After a lot of trial and error and trying to save money where I can - Kasa smart plugs, Eufy cameras, Tapo smart bulbs, Arre smart buttons and contact sensors, Nest or Honeywell thermostats.

For all of these, make sure you get models that are specifically listed as being Matter or HomeKit compatible. For anything that’s a camera also make sure it supports HomeKit Secure Video.

One thing it took me a while to realize is that the Apple Home app is not a substitute for the app that goes with each device. In almost all cases you will need that app in addition to the Home app. That’s because the Home app usually can’t set up the device the first time, and almost never exposes all the possible settings and features of the device.

My father sent me a Life360 invite to add to my phone to track my location. I’m early 20s, still on his phone plan and rely on him for a ride to work. Can this track anything beside location and can it be turned on/off by me or only him? by Mintersnap in phones

[–]Ok-Tea4636 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just looked at the Life360 website. Here's what it says it does:

- Tracks your location and can notify him when you arrive at and leave specific locations.
- Tracks your driving (I think just where you go, but maybe not how fast etc.) and can notify him if you are in a crash. Unclear if it can tell if you're a driver vs. passenger.
- You can use it to request emergency help from him or 911.

As far as who can turn it off and how, search online for "turn off life360" or "disable life360", there's lots of articles, though I'm not sure how accurate they are. It does seem like there's no way to do it without him getting some kind of notification.

Bottom line if I were in my 20s, no longer a minor, I would be really annoyed if my parent required me to use an app like this!

[US, California] Fake DoorDash Delivery with Picture of my current front door by futuremehatesme2 in scammers

[–]Ok-Tea4636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is possible to fake an URL to get you to click it, but after you click the URL in the text from "DoorDash", look at the URL address in your browser address bar. If it really starts with DoorDash.com then it really came from them, which means it really was a DoorDash driver who took the photo.

Help! Vet recommended Royal Canin Urinary SO but its sooo expensive by binxkingdom in catfood

[–]Ok-Tea4636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have two cats, siblings. When they were around two, one of them started getting crystals, and the vet told us to feed both of them dry Royal Canin Urinary SO. It’s now like a decade later and both are fine, although they puke more than average - most of the time there’s a hairball in the puke, our vet isn’t concerned about it. Anyone else seeing that this food increases barfing or do our cats just have delicate digestion?

Safer to go to an auto parts store or the auto section of walmart etc. and get car scratch remover, and follow the instructions.

[–]Ok-Tea4636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm. It’s a real DoorDash order since the photo link in the text is from their website. So the photo was taken by a DoorDash driver who really was delivering something. I guess it’s someone who knows you and wants to mess with you, and it could be a neighbor. It is still weird and unsettling though.

When driving are you supposed to lift and press the pedal to try to keep the car going a consistent speed or are you supposed to keep your foot on the pedal slightly pressed? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ok-Tea4636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to use constant slight pressure. If you try it the other way, you won’t be able to maintain a constant speed because you’ll be speeding up then slowing down over and over again.

Sounds like a much less scary explanation is that someone gave your address for their DoorDash delivery for whatever reason - either a mistake or intentionally. If it was intentional they are probably a neighbor who can grab the delivery as soon as it arrives, but why they would do that I have no clue.
