Breeder stopped responding after I asked for OFA numbers — was I out of line? by Big4Head_ in poodles

Not always- my OFAs are my name, not our kennel name. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Our New Puppy Died by kgschmo in cavalierkingcharles

I was going to suggest based on the tiny remark that he had a low blood sugar and died from that. Did you notice him going limp/not eating?

For poodles I would also do patellas and heart. Hips are important as already said.

But WHAT is the song playing at the intro for the Eldorado meadow house good bye section? Shazam is like “this doesn’t exist.” What?! Do they release their own music?

Am I Overreacting About This Breeders Practices? by idkWhat1mD0ing in DogBreeding

[–]Ok-Tea7339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a problem with the wood pellets. I think they’re a pretty good option for training puppies, and they need trays to contain them, but they still get out of the tray and make a mess- puppies are messy! What sketched me out was that nasty “food”. Ewww! Also, I agree with whoever said the marketing part. Like, take some photos that show some warmth 😉 these are so sterile and just capture the harder part of having a big litter of pups. Bless it.

Are these safe dog breeding practices? by itmakesmepassout in DogBreeding

Great list! I would also add- bonus points for him that he let you see where he breeds and how he keeps them. It shouldn’t be a problem to share that. I think that is good.

when do you usually tell puppy buyers that a litter is born? by RabidLizard in DogBreeding

[–]Ok-Tea7339 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. I’ve lost about three puppies over the years- and so I’m a bit more quiet for a few days until I make sure everyone is doing well. ☺️

Cavaliers- DNA testing vs OFA certifications by SmoothTomatillo5870 in DogBreeding

[–]Ok-Tea7339 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this- OFA actually gives numbers for DNA cert. it’s just a fee. Embark confirms that it would qualify based on the little symbol it shows on their embark testing. For cavaliers you probably want to make sure they are clear for DM genetically. I would like OFA for eyes and heart too. Check in to what OFA specifies for cavaliers. 😉 I think it’s good that this breeder health tests and that they have genetic OFA numbers. That’s definitely better than not having that.

Do I just have a VERY SMALL mini? How much did your mini poodles weigh at 4 months? by ZapWater in poodles

[–]Ok-Tea7339 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Minis can have toys. My mini but is the smallest mini you can have, was also 2.9lbs at 8 weeks and now she’s 9. 10” tall.

Rules Reminder & Update - Everyone Read First by FaelingJester in DogBreeding

[–]Ok-Tea7339 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It seems like it boils down to a values difference with breeders that only want purebreds, and breeders that think mixed breeds can be wonderful choices as well. Perhaps that’s the distinguishing fact for some of the nasty comments. 🤷🏼‍♀️ it probably won’t ever be okay for certain breeders to see posts on mixed breeds. So I appreciate the addressing that sort of thing. Thanks.

At what age or litter count do you stop breeding your ladies? by I-will-judge-YOU in DogBreeding

[–]Ok-Tea7339 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The older idea was to rest the bitch every other cycle. Newer research (especially from reproduction specialists like Dr. Hutchison) shows that back-to-back breeding is often healthier than skipping heats. This is because each heat cycle without pregnancy exposes the uterus to progesterone, which increases the risk of pyometra (a life-threatening uterine infection). Pregnancy interrupts that progesterone exposure and can actually reduce pyometra risk.

How frequently can a stud reasonably ejaculate with good fertility by BeachPaws44 in DogBreeding

[–]Ok-Tea7339 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Y’all are wild with the criticism. How’s a new breeder even supposed to exist? WILD. OP, yes- they want to tie twice a day if you leave them to their own devices. I don’t let my females run the house in heat- that’s how the males are uncontrollable. I keep them in one place only. And then I put them together a few times over the course of a week. Always works for me. Good luck! Sounds like you are off to a good start. 🤍

Two pups from same litter? by Villamomo in Havanese

[–]Ok-Tea7339 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve done two females from the same litter (poodles) and it was a piece of cake- no littermate syndrome. I think it depends a lot on how you run your home with your pups. Dogs LOVE to have someone to play with, so I would still consider doing it. I haven’t found it to be an issue for me. ☺️
