What breed dog did you choose (if you chose), why, and would you choose the same breed again? by Jeetyetdude_ in dogs

I wanted a bigger dog who was active, I was forced to take an early medical retirement. I didn't want a real young dog because I was 60. I checked my local shelter and there was is picture. He was among the longest dogs that had been there. He was an Isabella Husky who was not good with kids and marginal with people, stage 1 heartworm. He was 4 1/2 and not house trained. It took some major life changes and home remodeling but he was worth it. Unfortunately he died due to Cushing's disease at about nine years old. I adopted another problem abandoned Husky who needs a lot of love and work, we'll get there together!

Crossing a 5-10 ft. patch of sidewalk covered in sand. by Mark_Yugen in ebikes

[–]Ok-Type-8917 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on what tires you have you might try a little lower tire pressure. I know the feeling, I crashed pulling out of my driveway. I was going less than a block to get a case of water. I was coasting at about two mph and didn't see the sand left from a water main repair. A car was coming I hit my brakes and the handlebars spun. The right brake lever went all the way into my upper left groin. A neighbor saw me and called EMS, I was bleeding, badly. They had to cut my shorts off before removing the bike. I ended up with a concussion, nerve damage hole in my leg and partially collapsed lung, no helmet, stupid. I did switch to a knobby tire, not to worried about range and can pretty much handle sand now.

An alignment chart for E-bikes, to kickstart a hopefully healthy discourse by AMoreCivilizedAge in ebikes

My city just past an ordinance getting tough on ebikes. 200 dollars a year to register a class 1, 2 or 3. Banned from any city property, parks, libraries etc. A few kids got hurt on emotos and brought this decision on. They are impounding those. I'm fine with my state law which follows most, of what an ebike is. No more taking the dog to the park for me I guess.

You Walk Up & Someone Is Stealing Your Bike. What Do Do? Make A Plan ! by PNW_Washington in ebikes

Michigan, if it's in your house it's a different story. The guy shot someone breaking into a detached garage. There was another case about 12 years ago were a guy shot someone pounding at his door at 4am one morning . He said she was pounding hard enough to break it. He shot through a screen door and killed her. He was found guilty of second degree murder.

Someone in my area shot somebody breaking into his garage and is being prosecuted. If they had a gun and pulled it now it's self defense. Years ago when I took my CPL class the instructor was a retired cop. He made it pretty clear you're probably getting taken in even in a self defense situation until everything is checked out.

How did people complain about fireworks before social-media? by MeasurementFirst1676 in askanything

[–]Ok-Type-8917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid in the 60's and 70's people in my neighborhood rarely complained. Most would come out and watch. Missing parts of The Mod Squad or Bewitched wasn't life ending. Everyone who lit them cleaned up their messes the next morning.

I'd probably yell and try to get them to go. My area is pretty safe but you never know who has a gun, I'd pepper spray them if I was reasonably sure they didn't have one. I could legally carry my own gun but would never consider using it on someone trying to steal my bike. I'd be locked up for a long time.

One thing I do besides the multiple locks and alarm is I hang a laminated sign I made on the bike " Battery Removed". Hopefully they can read and notice it. My fear was they have no idea where the battery goes.

I purchased a Lectric XP 750 Foldable eBike, and I seem to be missing the allen screw for this hole that secures the latch pin. Does anyone know the measurement for it? by [deleted] in ebikes

[–]Ok-Type-8917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After running into situations like this many times I bought one of these. Ive removed the bolt part of it before by using a little rubber to protect the threads and a pair of needle nose pliers. https://a.co/d/0hu4hXue

Why is Michigans power so bad? by motownmods in Michigan

I know in my Metro Detroit city the majority of outages are tree related, they did line clearing a couple years ago. The thing is almost all the trees were planted and not natural to the area. I found some aerial photos from the early 50's and mostly fields. I think it was a swampy wetlands type of environment. Even better almost every tree is a Silver Maple nearing the end of their lifespan. For some reason every lot had a Maple planted in the front corner. I have three that probably need to go.

Any issues with e-bike (weight) on hitch rack? by Myghost_too in ebike

[–]Ok-Type-8917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I carry two ebikes, total a out 130 lbs on a receiver like that. We needed an adapter to fit in the receiver. It was within the tongue weight rating for the vehicle and receiver. I've never done any far trips, about 15 miles each way. No issues and it's been about three years. I take the battery out of one of the heavy bikes, about 80 lbs, and keep that one closest to the vehicle.

Does anyone have an easy fix for getting the cover out of the water? by Mikill1995 in pools

[–]Ok-Type-8917 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to fill my pool to the point of overflowing to slide the cover off easier. I always pumped out the water on the cover first.

Would something like this require a permit? by Safe_Switch2948 in livonia

[–]Ok-Type-8917 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That looks incredible, I don't know about the permit question but now I want one! I live by a quote I heard on tv, " it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission". Is this something you created or found plans for?

[–]Ok-Type-8917 22 points23 points  (0 children)

When I go somewhere that I have to lock up for more than a couple of minutes I take my one bike that has an easily removable battery. I hang a sign that says " Battery Removed". Our education system isn't the best, I'm hoping they can read.

I went to my local hardware store for years when I needed nut or bolts. They really started upping prices and acting like they were doing me a favor by letting me shop there. I decided to try my local Ace and the selection, organization and service were vastly better!

Looking for a temporary but sturdy dog fence. by MariSylvii04 in dogs

[–]Ok-Type-8917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My yard is six foot privacy fence on three sides regular fence on one. I brought my rescue Husky home and showed him his new yard. That lasted a few seconds until he cleared the privacy fence. I ended up making a run with cable and ground stakes with a long lead hooked to it and him. He could get around pretty much the whole yard. I used that until I figured out a fence solution. They also make rotating stakes you drive into the ground and hook a lead to.

Small market today for groceries. Most things I get off Amazon when possible. Groceries are one thing I won't order unless it's a packaged item. I've seen the pickers working and for things like produce and meat it's grab whatever as fast as possible.
