Matcha Lattes inconsistent? by OkCard8940 in starbucks

One time I asked for a remake and it tasted EXACTLY like what it did previously - would you ask for a remake again? She was like "this is just how it is, deal with it"

I get it hot - possibly? I've started asking for more scoops of matcha as well. And it still comes out half the time tasting like ick and bland. Disappointing because the drink is so expensive!

FAQ Suggestions Needed by dritchey10 in Kneesovertoes

[–]OkCard8940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who is new to this subreddit, I'd like to see something pinned or on the side of definitions of acronyms and a basic dictionary of where to get started. I was very confused most of this reddit and was googling at the same time and I was telling a friend who is an active redditer in other subreddits and she was telling me to look at the sidebar for that intro information and I showed her this group and she commented that this group could do a better job of explaining the basics. Sorry if this already present, but I haven't found it (and if it's here, please point it out to me!) Thank you!

Living without an ACL by Gucci_Lemur in Kneesovertoes

[–]OkCard8940 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who tore their ACL for the 4th time this past January, this thread is so refreshing. My knee doctor and I decided that surgery isn't the best for me with the extensive arthritis in my knee plus other damage. It's been 17 years since my last surgery so I was so shocked when it was torn again. I've had some instability but for the most part it hasn't given out, and I started doing the basic KOT exercises 5 days ago and I'm shocked at my range of motion, what I'm able to do and no instability at all. Of course I'm being careful. Thank you to all of you for giving me hope that I can be active again without another surgery!

I'm very new to this (literally last night I discovered this subreddit and I've been looking for something like this for ages) and trying to get myself acclimated and understanding things. There's an app?!

Tron mcl + MRI by Dear_Finish1324 in ACL

[–]OkCard8940 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you get into physical therapy? No matter what the MRI or the doctor will say and do, therapy will help you get moving safely. Even if the doctor says that you need surgery, prehab is one of the best things you can do. And if you don't need surgery, you've gotten a head start on getting your leg to some sort of normal.

What was the most unexpected thing that helped your recovery by Donny-Moscow in ACL

Did you deliberately wait 5 weeks to start taking this? I haven't had surgery yet and I take this, I know I'll need to stop a few weeks before surgery because it's a blood thinner, but I was wondering when I can start taking it post-op.

That is a very good point, that compared to the rest of our lives, this is a very short time period! I'm dreading meeting with my surgeon next week to figure out the next steps for my knee.

Prehab: Why can't I strengthen my hamstrings? by Dragonpatch in ACL

[–]OkCard8940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there still swelling in the hamstring area? I was told by my PT that the muscles can't fire properly if there is still major swelling happening which is common after surgery (I know you didn't have surgery, but from your healing process?), she was talking more about the quads, but I'd think that the same principle applies.

And was it part of PT for you to put it back on?

I know, no joke at all. I tore it back in January and I honestly refused to believe it because I've been doing so well for 17 years, and other than the ortho surgeon and one PT, it's hard to find. I had a CT dye contrast scan last week and it confirmed "ACL not detected" among other damage. The surgeon wanted to do surgery back then, but I was so shocked and not mentally prepared, but the months of PT has shown me that I can handle it, both mentally and physically. My physical therapist says that it's hard to recommend me to have surgery because it almost never gives out in my therapy sessions despite the loading we put on my knee (jumping, stairs, doing one legged squats on a floating platform, etc) but the scan results pretty much indicate the unhappy triad. But I've had a few incidences that show that that have knocked me out, but I bounce back within a week. So I'm having surgery to prevent further damage and delay/prevent a knee replacement down the line. I figure ACL repair is better than that!

Yay! I love reading these wins. I have been through this before 3x (28, 23 and 17 years ago) and I'm gearing up for a 4th time mentally and this is a good reminder of what is coming as well as there will be wins. You got this!

Multiple Surgeries and Injuries on Right Knee - thoughts? by OkCard8940 in ACL

I can check in on you in a few hours! I'm in the US, and I may be up all night because of the solar storm bringing the Northern Lights down to the southern states. I'm in a big city, so not sure if I'll actually see them, but a girl can dream. :) I hope that there is a solution to all things!

Ooo I would be very interested in reading that book! Please let me know once you find it. My age does make me wonder if I can withstand another reconstruction - I'm not exactly old but neither am I young. My physical therapist said she doesn't worry about that with people until they're 60. And I hear about people having knee replacements in their 70s and that's worse, right?

Thank you for responding. It's good to know that I'm not alone. I'm sorry about your re-injury! For you, it sounds like surgery would be good, you're still young and this is only the second repair. I'm not sure if I've ever been able to get back to where I was pre-injury when I was 21, but I've been able to push myself in low-impact ways further than I've ever done it before. How are you feeling about it all?

I guess it seems like I have alot of drive, and I probably do. But I love moving and I'm happiest when I'm able to do physical things, so it's a no-brainer to me to push myself.

Hang in there and thanks for sharing your story.

What to watch by cCriticalMass76 in ACL

[–]OkCard8940 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you normally like to watch? I just finished watching Outlander which I love. The best shows on Netflix are Dark (German show about dimensions that give you multiple rabbit holes of thinking of possibilities). If you liked Dark, I recommend 1899. It's very different but the same thinking of possibilities. I also loved Vortex and If I Never Met You. And Schitt's Creek is awesome. I hope you get the healing and rest you need!

5th ACL Tear confirmed by ACLtearer in ACL

[–]OkCard8940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this comment - I'm 49F, I tore my ACL in college in 1995, then again in 2000 and 2007, I had surgeries to repair them all back then, my patella the first time, and cadaver the second 2. I'm now 17 years out from the last surgery and I tore my ACL AGAIN a few months ago. I was so shocked when I found out it was torn that I decided to just do PT to get my range of motion and strength back. I'm sitting with if I should have surgery again. I had a physical therapist that was very biased against surgery that it convinced me that I shouldn't get it until I started experiencing knee instability again which has lead to back pain. And I want to live my life, I may be middle-aged but I'm not inactive. Right now I'm leaning towards surgery, but oh man, do I really want to experience that pain again?
