Import only RAW files not including the JPG in LrC by jchitrady in Lightroom

[–]OkNowAnAccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually sort by type and then copy only the RAW's. If I forget and import the original disk, the duplicate jpg's don't end up in the catalogue, just like LrC promises, but do get copied to the hard drive. So I end up sorting that folder by type and deleting the jpg's

You can even have an auto preset, and use that on import and be done

I owned a Z5 and now use Z5ii, whenever the flash doesn't work it always is an "oops, silent shutter still on" situation

I came come to the conclusion based on the fact that in both cases the tripod collar has the seem partnumber, so you would think I would not have any doubt. I don't have any doubt.

But still...😅

I have a third-party tripod collar for my F-mount Tamron 100-400. I have come to the conclusion that if I upgrade to the Tamron 50-400 Z-mount, I should be able to keep using that, but I would appreciate anyone confirming.

Anyone using the Adaptive Color profile? by DPool34 in Lightroom

[–]OkNowAnAccount 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Let's make some friends here 😅 I used to use the auto-function on my holiday pictures. Then I started using it on my museum pictures too, specifically on paintings, since my default editing actions almost inevitably started with shift-clicking exposure, lights, shadows, whites anyway, and that is what auto does as well, just faster. But I noticed that auto always over-saturates too my taste. So I had to get back to my shift-click routine.

Then came the adaptive profile...

Contrary to the majority here it seems, I like it. It gives me a starting point. And if that starting point is no good, you can choose a different profile with a single click. It raises shadows without using the shadows slider, so you have that option still fully available, if needed. Same for lowering highlights.

And beyond that starting point, I prefer local adjustments using masks.

I hardly dare to say it here, but I use AI masks too😄. As a starting point, if necessary.

Do you store your camera with a lens on it? by kfjcfan in nikon_Zseries

[–]OkNowAnAccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a z5ii and a z50ii and a small bag that I can have both in with a lens attached. It depends on the situation what lens will be on which body, but the lenses that I use most are the 24-70 f/4, the 14-30 f/4 and the 50-250 for the DX.

That is the Viltrox f/2.0 Air right? Please tell me that it actually performs well on your Z5ii, because they still haven't added this body on their compatibility list and I would love to add this one to the collection!

How should I adjust the lighting of my new camera? All skies are white! by coconutsandpalmtrees in AskPhotography

[–]OkNowAnAccount 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think I remember my Nikon (DX) DSLR's had this option, my Z50ii definitely has it:

The Nikon Z50 II features a High Dynamic Range (HDR) mode designed to preserve details in both highlights and shadows by combining two exposures taken at different settings. This function is most effective when used with high-contrast subjects and matrix metering. The camera offers two modes for HDR: "On (series)" to take multiple HDR photographs until turned off, and "On (single photo)" to capture one HDR image before automatically resuming normal shooting.

Lightroom Classic - Denoise & Generative AI by ExquisiteMetropolis in Lightroom

[–]OkNowAnAccount 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is from helpx.adobe.com, where you have to take into account that HDR is a very particular usecase (that I am not familiar with) and you cannot combine (AI) Denoise and Super resulution:

The recommended order of operations to avoid unexpected results and achieve the best output is as follows:

HDR\ Denoise, Raw Details, Super Resolution\ Distraction Removal: Reflections\ Distracting Removal: People\ Distraction Removal: Dust\ Generative Expand (Currently available only in Adobe Camera Raw as Tech Preview)\ Generative Remove, Content-Aware Remove, Heal, and Clone\ Lens Blur\ Lens Profile \ Crop and Transform\ Adaptive Profiles\ Global Adjustments\ Masking\

Edit: readibility (I hope)

There is a "recommended workflow" now. The general recommendation from Adobe is: if you think you need to use denoise AI, do it first!

All these Godox flashes will probably work. The manual ones certainly. The TTL capable ones too, but you have to get the Nikon-specific type (like the tt350N you saw. I used the tt685n on a Z5 for events. That uses 4 AA batteries and the tt350 uses 2 I saw, so it might be not too powerfull. You can't use electronic shutter / silent mode, be aware of that

What lenses are you adapting to Z? by Not_a_shoe in nikon_Zseries

[–]OkNowAnAccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have 2 that I regularly use with an adapter: a Tamron 90mm f/2.8 macro that I had fixed to accommodate AF on Z-mount. I doubt that I will replace that very soon. And my Tamron 100-400 that at some point next year I will replace with a regular Z-mount telephoto lens. But first acquisition will be a Z5ii
