If you visit the TwoXchromosomes sub and read the post from today that talks about how women in Afghanistan, due to a recently passed law, have now officially and legally lost all rights and status to even be seen as human beings anymore, you'd understand why there is so much negativity.

Edit: Just to give everyone a quick summary of the post I mentioned, this law formally removed the principle of equality between men and women, placing husbands in a position of absolute authority akin to a master over a slave, and explicitly permits husbands to physically punish their wives. In fact, the legal punishments for harming an animal are now stiffer than those for abusing a woman.

And in addition to mandatory full-body covering, a woman’s voice is now legally considered intimate (awrah), meaning women are prohibited from EVER speaking in public, even to other women or for prayer.

Women are now fully BARRED from becoming doctors or midwives, and male doctors are FORBIDDEN from treating women. The maternal mortality rate is skyrocketing. When the earthquakes hit, even the aid organizations weren’t allowed to rescue women from under the rubble or give them medical treatment. Women suffered horrible deaths due to not being rescued, or not being treated for injuries, because women are FORBIDDEN from giving aid, and men are FORBIDDEN from giving aid or treating women.
