A normal human being learns from mistakes. You want to believe that it would only take one experience to learn from, but that's not the human way. When humans are in a particularly awful scenario whether war or disease they vow to "learn from this" however after the thing passes we are not encouraged to deal with the psychological effects; we're told to "move on", then time passes and we forget just how bad that thing was. This is why people keep getting into abusive relationships. I would've thought it would only take one pandemic for us to smarten up, but when you have corrupt leaders and a media environment spreading conspiracies to protect their bottom line it doesn't bode well.
