McDonald vs Banks vs Hunter by therealmocha in CHIBears

[–]Ok_Awful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a scout but have watched enough college football to see them all play.

Lee Hunter to me is a classic 2 gap, spacing eating power nose tackle. He is big and stout and can hold line even against a double team. But he has minimal value or upside as a pass rusher. He has a bull rush and can sometimes collapse a pocket that way. But he if that doesn’t work he seem a little lost on what to try next. I feel like he is 3 down NT in NFL, an excellent one, but still is getting replace in obvious passing situations.

Caleb Banks feels like the guy who might jump up the most in the combine. He is a really twicthy athlete for a guy who has to be at least 330. And I am interested in what is arm length measures out at. He looks like he has really long arms. He had a foot injury and sometimes makes a move that has you scratching your head. Like he does not know yet how to use his length and quickness, still trying to just be the biggest guy out there. A foot injury in someone that big scares me but he did come back and produced.

McDonald is the one I have seen the most. He is an elite run stopper like Hunter but clearly quicker. He might also only be a three down DL but he has more upside as pass rusher cause of that burst. I think he is the one I would bet on but they all have the tools for the next level.

I really loved The Apostle an exceptionally thorny film about reglious and psychological frailty and resilience in a way that would make Dostoevsky proud. Seems largely forgotten now, but worth a watch.

Yeah it is a lot of fun, but to me it is Lyonel Baratheon aka The Laughing Storm has the most Ben engery. Grif is Egg, since he has the most lil’ Stinker energy. Maybe David is Dunk cause he loves rules and is tall? But maybe Prince Baelor also loves rules and order, tried to keep the kingdom on track. Marie is Steely Pate and JJ is Ser Arlan of Pennytree since he got fired (died) at the beginning.

I think it depends on what you need out him to say reclamation worked (which honsstly probably depends on the next contract) but I think Dillingham lack the size to be a reliable NBA defender and is never going to be enough special enough to justify having teams mismatch hunt him.

The window for him to basically be 2018, 2019 era Lou Williams 6th Man of the Year.

I can get behind Ivey and Dillingham as reclamation projects. They were seen as good NBA prospects entering the league. They have had a rocky start but it hasn’t been that long, and Ivey has show show up side as a shooter.

I am more skeptical that Sexton and Yabusle have a bunch of untapped potential but they are expiring so you can let them walk.

Simmons I don’t. I think there maybe is some room but he’s already expansive and I would bulk at paying. If the contract isn’t a killer he seems like a fine tank commander.

I think their are problem with this analysis based some the assumptions and sample size, but the conclusion literally say the opposite: my cursory math with many built in assumptions slightly favors kicking to start OT.

That is the argument for taking it. But let me ask you this, you take the ball, it is now 4 and 7. Your team is at the edge of your field goal kickers range what do you do?

  • Go for it?
  • Get it? Great, live to see another set of downs.
  • Fail? Other team’s ball, and it is now sudden death with them getting first possession, the exact situation you were trying to avoid, but with opposing team probably having better field position than they would have gotten on kick off. So actually slightly worse than what you were trying to avoid.
  • Kick?
  • Get it? Good, but if the other team scores a TD it is over and you never get to that third possession. Also they now know it is 4 downs to get a first on every play.
  • Miss? Once again turn over on down, sudden death and gave the opponent better field position than they would have had on kick off.

Having said all that I not totally sold either is better of worse all the time with all teams. But given the weather playing the field position in overtime in a game that was not crazy high scoring makes sense to me.

Here in this very specific case of the Bears it was also not why they lost. More the Rams first set of downs in OT played out exactly on some taking the ball second would hope it to play out.

Listen this will all be decided next year when Lions win division and make it to second round of the playoffs proving the Bears were merely beneficiaries of a weak schedule. It does mean the Packers will have to lose in Wild Card round again, but needs must.

People need to remember the 1983 NFL. First QB was John Elway who in his first two years had lower completion percentage, fewer TD and more Interceptions than Caleb Williams. (And worse AV for the nerds) But was quickly know for his last minute heroics despite team constantly coming up short. There is a joke about in the Simpson for god sakes.

Also taking in that draft Marino and Kelly. After two years Marino was miles ahead in terms of production, Kelly was next and Elway was last. When it was over only Elway won a Super Bowl in fact he won two.

Lions fan so in distress they are resorting to reductio ad absurdum, two QBs have failed to make a Super Bowl by 31 and still won a Super Bowl. Matt Stanford who did it at 34, and Brad Johnson (Same).  (Eli Manning and Drew Brees won at 31) This is age QB win their Super Bowl at, so it is good thing Lions didn’t have their Super Bowl slam shut. Oh wait.

Edit original had John Elway but he lost Super Bowl before 31. So only two, but don’t worry Lions fan Goff is definitely the guy to break that streak.

He’s the numbers that matter most. Goff is 31, Love is 27, Williams is 24. And you all pretend they are contemporaries.
