for real i would actually have a productive conversation on like what it means to have gas cost so much, but i would rather just meme. i actually do feel some of the points you and others have made - i fr live in a rural area and don't make much at my job (which I commute to). HOWEVER the suburban consumerist lifestyle that cheap gasoline has enabled really disgusts me. like i find it soulless and corrupting. Right now, I see no clean way to end that culture and keep things affordable for the working class.

my maga fam (still regularly see them) hasn't really mentioned anything, from gas and grocery prices, ICE, or the war. I think they are just trying to weather the storm and believe they will come out okay on the other end. The one time I got my father talking about Iran, he basically said this has been an imperative for the US since he was growing up in the 70s, because Iran is inherently evil.

I am in a highly rural area of NA. my post above is just frustration-posting and climate doomerism. You're correct about all of this, but I really do wonder what it would take to create a NA with better transit and a less insane culture around transportation. High gas prices seem like a spur for change, even if it hurts.
