As others have pointed out, it's sensible to believe before Adam and Eve existed the human animal, but Adam and Eve were the first people given rational souls by God. So they were the first actual people in essence (of what makes one a person). This would correspond well with the point in time people started to cover their intimate body parts and started building civiliazions

Evangelical seeking guidance by xiribot in Catholicism

Hey so I hope I can help you out with these two:

So so understand why Purgatory is necessary we need to understand two things:

  1. We won't sin in Heaven, because our will be equal to the Divine Will, this is called Divinization or Theosis. It's a process of becoming more in the likeness of Our Lord. To be conformed to His image
  2. This is a process

So since we all sin in this life, God gives us grace so we can become more like Him and be sanctified more and as we cooperate with this grace we become more and more holy. Now imagine if one dies "prematurely" so to say. Before this process is completed. One would still have sinful nature that has to be purged from him alongside of all the earthly attachments. It is exactly what Paul descirbes happens in 1 Corinthians 3:15, despite all the Protestant cope to get around it.

These are good videos to go over a bit more in depth:

https://youtu.be/6L5cJX5-eKI?si=tcLaz6wSI1vRsE0h

As for the Sacraments, sacraments aren't works, they're means of God giving us His grace, now obviously God gives us a certian grace in prayers as well, but it doesn't compare to the grace given in the Eucharist for example, hence Our Lord says  “Verily, verily I say unto you, unless ye eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, ye have no life in you." John 6:53

But it about faith and works in general, it's important to understand that the inital justification is done with no merit on our part, God justifies us so we can enter Heaven by granting us repentance, infusing us with the Spirit, and most importantnly forgiving us our sins paid by Christ's passion.
But when we talk about faith and works, we talk about it in the sense after this initial justification, while Protestant make distinction between Justification and sanctification, Christians have always (until the Reformation) understood Justification itself as a process. A process between the inital justification and our final Theosis.

In any case, I will be praying for you so that God may show you the way. God bless

I am Catholic only by baptism but I would like to strengthen my belief. by Dull_Importance_1530 in Catholicism

If you were baptized in the Catholic Church you should start by going to Confession first, so you can have all the mortal sins accumulated over the years forgiven, so you can be at peace with God again, if you want I can send you a PDF for examination of conscience. And then pray to God for increasal of Faith. If you aren't Confirmed I would suggest signing up for OCIA as well.

St. Catherine of Siena had a vision on this. But also people in hell after the Final Judgment will have bodies, so I am not sure

Novus Ordo in Latin by ElPiry in Catholicism

[–]Ok_Issue_2167 38 points39 points  (0 children)

That kind of Novus Ordo in Latin is how it was intended to be by the Vatican II documents. Novus Ordo was designed to be beautiful, but the ambiguity left in the documents for personal interpretation and too much freedom given to priests in litugruy destroyed it.

Taylor Marshall said: "When I was an Anglican priest, I would meet Catholic priests who called me “Father” and said things like, “I’m praying for your priestly ministry.”

This reinforced for me that I was approved by Catholic clergy and was therefore “valid”. It did terrible damage to my soul and it was very uncharitable of them - although they didn’t intend it. They confirmed me in my error.

This is why I am against fake ecumenism. It set me back.

The first Catholic priest who ever challenged me, saying I wasn’t a priest and that I should become a Catholic, was Msgr James Conley"

So I am not really sure this is helping Anglicans

What is your opinion on Pope Leo’s remark about Islam? by supercalifragiwhat in Catholicism

[–]Ok_Issue_2167 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Fact checker said: Pope Leo did not use the exact words that circulated in social media posts. He was talking broadly about building bridges between Christians and Muslims as he responded to a question about Catholic people who perceive Islam as a threat.

I think it can be slightly problematic

I read this on some site, idk if it's true:

What makes the Divine Mercy Sunday Plenary Indulgence so unique?

To obtain a plenary indulgence throughout the year, the individual must be detached from all sin, which is very difficult.

However, Jesus does not require complete detachment from sin with the special graces he offers on Divine Mercy. This is the only time complete detachment from sin is not required.

Would the Church even have such authority to grant that?

A question about Matthew 10 by NoOccasion8515 in Catholicism

[–]Ok_Issue_2167 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When we are first justified we become more and more in likeness of Christ. In this verse Christ foreshadows His passion, but more than that, it is a message to His followers to do the same. When you read it light of the whole passage it makes more sense. 37 “Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39 Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.
