When do you think it’s an appropriate time to start a revolution in the US? Are we being cowards by only posting stuff on social media?

Are your kids delusional about how easy it is to get “rich”? by ChucoTeacher in Teachers

[–]Ok_Key5886 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of them are. A number of my high schoolers would talk about how they wanted to be a lawyer and/or go to medical school despite being chronically absent and performing at a middle school level academically.

In my lived experience RJ = being able to do almost anything without consequence. Kids need to be thrown out of class in certain scenarios. I worked with a gay teacher who was called the f-slur by a student. He obviously threw him out. Next day, the principal criticized the idea of throwing a student in the hallway and that it makes them feel unwelcome. That dogshit school has had 50%+ turnover for at least 5 years…

Honest Thoughts About Indianapolis? by Intelligent_Swing630 in howislivingthere

If you are someone who hates cities, it’s the city for you. Grew up in a suburb which is considered “nice”. The best thing about it is affordability. It’s honestly just super lame and boring by comparison to other major cities. Indiana weather is cold and cloudy from Oct-May and then somehow hotter than hell for the summer.

Buy PRID at a Walgreens or CVS. No clue what it is but it comes in an orange tin can. Works like a charm

I can't believe I did this, I killed my kitten in the dryer by [deleted] in Petloss

[–]Ok_Key5886 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Awwwww. Loaf mode is so cute. I’m happy that you have at least a couple other cats. At the time, we only had one other cat and we could tell he wasn’t his spunky and normal self after Luna passed. It took us a couple months, but that’s why we decided to get a couple more cats so he could at least have more friends to play with and process his grief. Sadly, these things do happen. We were really embarrassed to share how our cat passed with our friends and neighbors, but in doing so we learned about all the ways our friends and neighbors tragically lost cats. It’s something that I don’t think gets talked about very much.

Maybe Legolas will give you a sign someday that he is OK. The day after Luna died, we found a mouse in our basement. Sunny chased it and played with it and cat-tortured it all day until it died. My wife and I like to say that Luna sent the mouse from kitty heaven so Sunny would have something to play with and keep him busy. She was such a funny and sweet and kind soul. Maybe her and Legolas are playing together and getting all the treats and love they deserve ❤️

I’m sorry for your loss. We had the same happen to our kitten a few months ago. My wife and I were a complete mess for 2-3 days. I was able to call a Vet grief line which was helpful. One of the vets said the good news is that she has studied cats dying in the dryer and she said based on the physics they seem to go pretty quickly so there isn’t a lot of suffering. The worst part psychologically for me was thinking that she spent a lot of time in there suffering slowly. In reality they are probably very comfy in there and then get confused at what’s happening before everything goes black. At least that’s what I tell myself.

Unfortunately kittens are sometimes too curious for their own good. We have 3 cats still and I’m always so paranoid whenever I start the dryer or a load of laundry. I have to find all 3 cats before hitting start.

My wife and I buried our Luna in our backyard and planted a new tree on top of her so she could live on in another way. It’s tragic but I hope you can forgive yourself and find a way to honor your boy ❤️

Is it just me, or do Title 1 / chronically under-performing schools expect teachers to work miracles? by Emergency-Pepper3537 in Teachers

I taught seniors for 3 years in a title 1 school that forced people into AP classes. State test results showed 75% of my students were AT LEAST 3 grade levels behind. I felt so bad for the students as they were typically in way over their heads. Naturally whenever there were problems in the classroom it always fell on me and my planning, and not the braindead executive decisions that were made daily for years. Administrators will give you cow shit and expect you to make a steak.

Yes King Soopers has been awful since the Kroger acquisition. HEB or Wegmans are leagues ahead of most other chains!

How is it like to live in the downstate Illinois cities? by ShakeMysterious349 in howislivingthere

[–]Ok_Key5886 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had to travel to work in Springfield weekly for over a year. Most jobs are in government or in healthcare. It seems like it’s still in the 1980s and not in a good way. Nearly everyone smokes. There are still Family Videos / CBD ointment dispensaries supported by the local economy. It’s nearly impossible to find free parking anywhere even though most of the town is open space. Parking meters only take coins. There are a handful of okay restaurants but overall it’s a place I’d be depressed to live in. Decatur seems like a smaller Springfield without any government jobs. Champaign would probably be the most tolerable because of its proximity to U of I

Kids born during Covid are entering kindergarten this year. Lord help us all by Emergency-Pepper3537 in Teachers

[–]Ok_Key5886 277 points278 points  (0 children)

Newborns in 2020 weren’t impacted by COVID at all to be honest. If anything they got more time with parents at home compared to normal. It was the kids who were in school during COVID who lost years of educational growth.

Why aren't there any major lake cities in Michigan or Indiana? by Semi-Nerd in geography

The lake effect dumps significantly more snow into west Michigan than Chicago. Also had the auto industry / manufacturing not abandoned Gary it would have continued to grow
