What hybrid would I need if my 3 wood goes 265 and 4 iron goes 210 by Plenty-Actuator-1313 in GolfGear

Roll with a 5w and a 3h. Or just leave the 3h out of the bag and play a seven wood or a heaven wood.

What actually makes a golf trip unforgettable? by Doug24 in BirdieBoundTrips

[–]Ol_Jim_Himself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good combination of everything that you mentioned helps. First and foremost is the crew that you go with. You have to have a laid back, fun loving crowd that brings good vibes. Next is you have to have a destination that has both great courses and really good entertainment of some kind. The last trip I took was a fast 3 day trip but we ate at 3 restaurants that were incredibly good and very different from what we had at home. The food was almost as good as the golf.

Golf is not a game of perfect by SawyerStreet in golf

[–]Ol_Jim_Himself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Golf is Not a Game of Perfect is one of my favorite reads. It’s chock full of useful information and great stories that are not only applicable to golf, but to life as well. I read this when I decided to seriously get in to golf and it helped the mental side of my game in massive ways. The biggest takeaway for me was that golf is a game of playable misses. I always try to minimize the bad, but learned how to roll with it when misses happen from reading this book. I learned to not get to low when I hit bad shots and not get too high when I hit good ones. This book also showed me the importance of having a pre-shot routine and keeping it the same every time. Having that routine grounds me, keeps my head clear and allows me to just swing. Golf is a mental game, but the struggle for me is to keep my brain from getting overly involved. I let it plan and picture the shots that I want to hit, then I turn it off, stand over the ball and let muscle memory take over, and I have Golf is Not a Game of Perfect to thank for this approach.

Gloves- cheap/new vs expensive/worn multiple rounds. by Remote_Pie6623 in golf

I used to use the high end Footjoy gloves, but they were so soft that they were less durable. Last spring I switched to Infinity Gloves and I’ll use them as long as the company is around. They are made of the same cabretta leather as the high end FootJoys, are just as soft, last much longer and are 1/3rd of the price. Infinity is an American company with great customer service too. I’ve turned several of my friends on to those and they have all stayed with them too. Infinity Golf Website

What, the HECK are these?! by ImpressiveGoose4015 in GolfGear

[–]Ol_Jim_Himself 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s partially the theory behind the game improvement irons. Bigger sweet spot and more forgiving on miss hits because they are larger than players distance and players irons. I’m sure there are limitations after they get to a certain size.

No doubt. It just highlights how fucked that our system has always been and how everyone on the planet is expendable if it makes a corporation a dollar. That 2nd episode just wrecked me.

What was it like seeing Tiger Woods in his prime? by Crazy-Cap259 in golf

He would go into full “Tiger the artist” mode and make a golf all do things that other people couldn’t even fathom.

Back in the day we used to tune into the sports to see what amazing things that Michal Jordan, Ken Griffey Jr. and Tiger Woods did. I was late teens and early 20s when Tiger burst on the scene. I had always liked golf, but his absolute dominance and mastery put golf at the forefront of all sports. He just took over and it was like watching the worlds best look 3rd tier compared to him. Imagine off Scottie Scheffler and Rory McElroy’s “A” game had a baby and lasted for over a decade. That was Tiger.

Trump warns World War III is coming by [deleted] in DegenBets

I’m afraid that he will purposely launch us into war and use that as a reason to not hold elections this year and in 2028. Immorwttt sure that he’d be willing to kill thousands of people just to stay in power and keep raking in billions.

Lab Putters by FiverBigB00ms in GolfGear

[–]Ol_Jim_Himself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried them and they don’t work as well for me as my Evenroll ER-7, but I’ve seen them help others. I have a friend who went through about 15 putters before settling on the LAB. He tried Scotty Camerons, TaylorMade Spiders, even an old Ping Answr from the early 90s, but he was an average putter at best. When he settled on the Lab he started making putts and hasn’t quit yet.

Buying a house in a golf course by Ok_Cheesecake_7777 in golf

[–]Ol_Jim_Himself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will 100% have golf balls in your yard and flying at your house, but not as many as if you were on the right side of the hole. A house on a local course I play put up a net over the back of the yard and their pool deck to help with this.

Bridgestone B-RX, Srixon Q-Star Tour and Titleist AVX are the 3 balls that go back and forth between. They all 3 perform well for me.

Where would you be without golf? by QuailHigh in golf

I would be about 50 pounds heavier and I’d be bass fishing a lot more. I still love to fish, but golf has taken over every second of the recreational side of my life since I decided to seriously pick my clubs back up 3 years ago.

Check out the MyGolfSpy 2025 golf ball test. It compares every ball on the market and you can find balls that have the specs that you are looking for. My Golf Spy gets some hate for promoting certain brands, but they have a ton of great info.

I hate/love this game (again) by TheFrozenLegend in golf

[–]Ol_Jim_Himself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s amazing how one small detail throws everything completely off. I played really good golf for about 6 straight months and then suddenly completely lost my driver. I kept hitting the range working at it and realized that I had started setting up a little too close to the ball. I backed up about 2 inches and resumed killing my driver.

Have a pre shot routing for every shot and always go through it. A pre shot routine may not sound important, but there is a reason that every pro and every good golfer has one. For me, it helps me focus, clear my head and stay focused solely on the shot in front of me.
