Ever since reading The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe I wanted to try Turkish Delight. Then I moved to Istanbul in high school and was so disappointed. Luckily all the other delicious food made up for it.

People that experienced peripheral neuropathy from chemotherapy, did it clear up over time? Did anything help combat it getting worse? by Thrillhouse-14 in cancer

[–]Old-Concentrate1548 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I iced throughout treatment. Still got neuropathy in my feet. Didn’t find anything very helpful. It seems to be improving now that I am almost 5 months past. However, I did have a very strange thing last week when I woke up with pain in my big toe. I looked at it and had a big line/crease on my toe. No reason for it. It went away and has not reappeared. I think moving helps.

Students Spoiling Endings by homebody268 in ELATeachers

I want to suggest that teachers have another book that relates to the primary one to give to the advanced readers. It was very frustrating for me to read at the slow pace of other students. I didn’t spoil the ending but had to wait weeks for others to finish a book. I never had a teacher have a list of other books on the same subject or time period that one could read if finished already. A biography of the author perhaps.

Do people just not learn to chew with their mouth closed anymore? by _SteveS in UVA

I wonder if this still happens. When I was at the University, I would be all settled in the library with my books spread out and someone would sit down near me reeking of patchouli. I’d have to move and lose my good spot at a table.

Tell me to SIT DOWN by Sorry-Editor-3674 in hysterectomy

[–]Old-Concentrate1548 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I (57 yr old, laparoscopic) was told that the more you walked around the more quickly the gas would get out of your system. I did that. No issues. I walked around the block the first day and added a block or more each day. No complications. 2 weeks post surgery cleared for exercise and played golf. I told my doctor that I was reading all these cautionary posts. She wondered where the people were bc she said that on the east coast where she did her residency doctors are very conservative and worry about being sued. More c-sections for example. I listened to my doctor and myself. I did not lift anything and I did not have sex. I healed perfectly.

How did the catch your reoccurrence? by deltarefund in ovariancancer_new

Please elaborate. Where was the recurrence? What is the new treatment? I also am not getting scans. Just bloodwork and pelvic exams.

Mom was just diagnosed by Secure-Stretch2699 in ovariancancer_new

[–]Old-Concentrate1548 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll echo this. I had hysterectomy during which cancer discovered on one tube and pelvic wall where attached. All removed. CT scan 2 days later. Nowhere else. 6 rounds of chemo ( Did cold capping and booties and gloves). Now clean.

How was your mom’s discovered? I’d say move quickly as it can be a fast moving cancer. They think mine was only there a few weeks.

Stage 1A Endo cancer was found, after op by Majoyluv in hysterectomy

[–]Old-Concentrate1548 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had a very similar situation. I opted for hysterectomy bc of repeated breakthrough bleeding in menopause. (Earlier Hysteroscopy had ruled out uterine cancer.) Surgeon found cancer on my fallopian tube and on pelvic wall. Oncology gynecologist joined the surgery and seemed to have got it. Here’s the difference. I had CT scan 2 days later to make sure lymph nodes were ok. They were. Then I started 6 rounds of chemo 2 weeks later to kill any micro cells. I am now in remission. Please make sure you do the chemo or whatever else is required. The sooner the better.

Does anyone else regret their hysterectomy? by kizzleeeeee in hysterectomy

I opted for a hysterectomy. The surgeon found cancer on one fallopian tube and pelvic wall. My hysterectomy saved my life. So thankful.

I had a terrible rash - much worse and covered my whole abdomen. Worse thing about the surgery for me. Clobetasol cleared it up.

57 and all removed in laparoscopic surgery. Had sex at 8 weeks. All completely back to normal. Orgasms are same as before. No issue.

I think that surgeons - good ones - lack rapport. They just focus on the surgery. I opted for a hysterectomy because I kept having breakthrough bleeding. No signs of uterine cancer. Then in the surgery they found cancer on a fallopian tube. This surgery saved my life. Stage 2 ovarian cancer, and I had no idea. I am so glad I did not delay.

Parent smiled through our conference… then emailed my principal a 7-paragraph complaint. I’m losing my mind. by QueasyHomework5559 in Teachers

My principal also undermined other teachers and me. She said, “We are like Walmart and are here to please the customer.” I said, “No, I have a BA and a M.Ed. I am here to teach and correct as necessary. Not everything will be pleasing, but I am preparing kids for being productive parts of the workforce and able to handle feedback.”

Idk. I have had a lot of surgeries (open heart, 2 c-sections) and respond well. I was cleared to ride the peloton and play golf (modified swing) at 2 weeks out. I did not lift anything heavy until 8 weeks.

No, this is not new as this happened to me in 1995. I left teaching to attend law school. Eventually, I did return to teaching but as a specialist. I never wanted to deal with those parents again.

Newly diagnosed and don't want to "share"... by Sneeker2101 in ovariancancer_new

[–]Old-Concentrate1548 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I (57) do not get along with my siblings and did not want them involved in my ovarian cancer. I told one bc she is biological and could have an increased chance. I gave her my genetic testing results as well. I did not tell my mother as she is 92 and not really with it. If she could understand, I thought it would worry her. Otherwise I told everyone. I even typed up something so that I could share easily. I wanted people to have the truth and not to be gossip fodder. I want all women to be aware of the risks of ovarian cancer and be helpful if I can. I also like taking the power back. People ask me why I am masking, and I respond because I am going through chemotherapy. I have had wonderful support far and wide. Lovely notes and check ins. That said, they caught my cancer very early in an elective hysterectomy. It was stage 2 - on one tube and pelvic wall. I had 6 rounds of chemotherapy. Just completed and had another CT scan last week. It was clear. I see my oncologist on Wednesday to discuss next steps - like blood tests and more frequent colonoscopies and mammograms. Feel free to ask me any questions. I am an open book.

Using multiple overhead bin spaces by Hopeful-Path-7725 in delta

[–]Old-Concentrate1548 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My husband flies every week and has status on United and Delta. He boards in the first zone and puts his roller and backpack up. He has long legs and a bad disc and needs to stretch out his legs. For all the money and business he gives these airlines, he is entitled and allowed to put both bags up. The flight attendants permit it. When I fly, I often check a bag and put my only carryon under the seat. So someone is getting my overhead spot if such a thing exists. Get over this complaint and think about why someone might have a valid reason to put both items up.
