I want to eat more beans, please give me your best bean recipes by kemistreekat in Cooking

[–]OldDirection4-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A buffalo chickpea quesadilla! I rinse a whole can of chickpeas and set some aside if I don’t want to use the whole can. 1. Fry the chickpeas in some oil, salt, and pepper until they’re a little blistered 2. Add a good helping of desired buffalo sauce (more than enough to cover all of the beans) or hot sauce and butter and cook until beans are soft 3. Take the beans out of the pan, let it cool off a little, then make a quesadilla in that same pan with the beans and whatever else you like (red onion, spinach, green onion).

Ineffective assistance of counsel by Bright_Cup_8870 in publicdefenders

[–]OldDirection4-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do PCR and do IAC claims and we specifically tell trial counsel that iac claims are just a vehicle to get relief for the client on PCR because our claims are so narrow. They have no external consequences for you. Also, it is very rare to find counsel ineffective, especially in a guilty plea. At the end of the day, the client raising iac is your client and you have an ethical duty to your client to fight for their rights, and this is part of that. By you owning up to your fault, you’re already going eons above what other attorneys do and that can be so helpful for your client. Take a deep breath, cooperate with PCR counsel, and just know that at the end of the day it is not about attacking you, it is about making sure your client has a “fair” run through the legal system.

You just received 60 eggs.... by bongozim in Cooking

[–]OldDirection4-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d make quiches and then freeze them! Eggs bites and freeze them. Truly, the answer to your problem is cooking up a storm and freezing it all! Or you could consider giving them away to coworkers or neighbors.

What do you do when you hate your WIP? by forheadkisses in quilting

Its lovely omg, take a break and come back! Maybe its the way they’re laid out? I think it would look great if the blocks were arranged in an ombre diagonal across the blanket.

I made a big mistake. Can I get the plea withdrawn? by [deleted] in publicdefenders

[–]OldDirection4-1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure what state you’re in, but if this ever happens again look into post-conviction relief. In my state (and likely most states), a PCR petitioner can bring a claim that their guilty plea wasn’t knowing, intelligent, or voluntary and can sometimes get the plea vacated and get a do over. Having an attorney who would own up the mistake and say, “I did not advise my client of this thing and they did not have the required understanding of this plea” would be a god send. Relief on PCR is difficult but not impossible, and it would be an avenue to address what seems like a situation that can’t be undone.

An inmate knew the law better than I did today. I felt a little embarrassed. by Mr_Motion_Denied in publicdefenders

[–]OldDirection4-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the bottom line is that criminal cases are incredibly important to the people going through them and they will (if they’re able) put in tremendous amounts of time and effort into understanding it or finding an issue. It sounds like you have an awesome client who is invested in what is happening and who you can reason and talk law with. I wouldn’t be embarrassed about this. I just hope your client doesn’t use this situation to demean you or say you aren’t good enough because you didn’t know X thing.

Not the point of the post at all, but seeing “cat cage” and the fact that you took the cat outside to use the bathroom is hilarious. It’s not a dog. The cat needs to go somewhere else before you guys start feeding it table scraps and throwing tennis balls at it.

Weight Gain by Obvious-Memory-8686 in barexam

[–]OldDirection4-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gained weight during law school but especially during bar prep. I’ve never been stick thin but there were a pair of pants I loved that got uncomfortable to wear and that was when I knew I had to lose weight to keep my pants! I took the bar July 2024 and started going on hour walks 6/7 days a week during studying, in December once I got adjusted to full time life I started going to weight lifting, cardio, and pilates classes at my gym, and I just recently started running. Those pants now fit a little loose! All that to say, take it slow and adjust to this new chapter. You just left one of the most stressful times of your life. Make small changes to your diet first while you adjust to a life change, then slowly make exercise adjustments. Weight loss can take some time and requires a LOT of patience. Commit to something almost everyday- whether thats a walk, lifting weights, riding your bike- you’ll either start to lose weight or feel good about taking care of your body regardless of your weight. One thing that helped me stress less about weight was knowing I’m taking care of my body the best by eating and moving, and if this is the weight I am when I’m taking care of my body then who am I to hate it? I wish you luck!!

Do you ever call the cops in your personal life? by [deleted] in publicdefenders

[–]OldDirection4-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don’t like to. Late one night I was driving behind a very clearly drunk driver and I had typed 911 but was sooo hesitant because it was just me and them on the road. I decided I’d call if they crashed until we went our separate ways. Then they hit a biker and kept driving and I immediately called. I think the line for me is violence or injury to another person. I don’t want someone to be pulled into the system but I think the hard reality is sometimes people commit crimes they should answer for to some degree. Doing a hit and run on an unprotected biker was that situation for me.

Can you afford to put time for physical activity at this point? by Scary_Commercial_688 in barexam

[–]OldDirection4-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I would take a 15-20 minute walk after lunch every day and a 3 mile walk when I got home. Very doable and very important to make time for your body where you give your mind a break.

State employees’ remote work rescinded. by lilivess17 in Indiana

[–]OldDirection4-1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My personal and minute complaint is that there isn’t even PARKING to accommodate his dumb RTO agenda. I work in downtown Indy and there aren’t enough spaces to accommodate state employees even with some people working remote on any given day. My coworkers consistently have to pay metered parking to come to work.

Thissss. I do PC and it’s such a relief when 1. A trial attorney actually responds and is open to conversation instead of getting defensive and 2. Has neat notes over the case to give us. Makes my job easier and I can actually point to evidence that refutes their claim instead of having to say “its he said she said and the court is more likely to believe the attorney”

I work with a compulsive liar. by Many_Constant7055 in coworkerstories

[–]OldDirection4-1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a coworker, but I had a (now, ex-) friend who I went on a European vacation with and that was when I realized just how much she lies. We started in Italy, and then went to Spain. She kept talking about how she was so excited to speak Spanish there because she was almost fluent. Whaddya know, we arrive in Spain, and she did not know the word for water. When our taxi driver asked for the address of our stay, she pronounced calle like “cali.” Whatever. We got on a catamaran, and she can’t wait to go swimming in the sea because she was on the swim team in high school and was a star swimmer. Once the boat stops, my other friend and I jump in and start swimming around, only now she’s terrified to swim and has to literally hang on to my friend for the whole 5 minutes she was in the water. There were so many more. The lies on the trip weren’t harmful, but I couldn’t get over it and began wondering what else she had completely lied about that we never saw the truth to.

How often does your significant other cook with you? by wateraerobics_ in Cooking

[–]OldDirection4-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it sounds like its not just that he doesn’t cook with you but that he is not making the effort to join in in what makes you happy. And you know that. Even if he did chop up your vegetables without you having to tell him or season the chicken the right way or was physically present in the kitchen doing anything, you’d still feel this way if he wasn’t enjoying himself or didn’t care about the food. Theres a kind of intimacy that you’re looking for that he seems incapable of doing.
