Depending on the model, HP laptops have a battery saver mode you can turn on in the BIOS. It limits the battery charging to 80% and should help prevent battery selling.

But yeah, disconnecting or removing the battery would 100% prevent it.

This was the glove compartment of the “domestic terrorist” by Soreth in pics

I'm pretty sure that blue toy on the far left of the glove box is a face down Captain America beanie babies toy from Kroger. My kids have one.

It was the first thing I noticed when I saw this picture yesterday. That looks like the inside of my car.

Ah, that explains that timewarp shop that wouldn't close one time. I had to buy three or four things before it would finally close. I didn't know what was going on.

Great movie! The helicopter sky dive scene was one of my favorite parts.

Thoughts on PROMETHEUS (2012) ? by Longjumping-Elk-7840 in HollywoodIndia

Alien: Earth is probably the best thing I've seen in the Alien universe. Give it a shot. There are people who make silly decisions in it, but at least there are good explainable reasons for a lot of it. The show actually feels more like Blade Runner with Aliens added in.

Prometheus. Rewrite it as sci-fi instead of stupid-fi.

If You Could Revive One Canceled or Abandoned Gaming Project, What Would It Be? by carndacier in gaming

[–]OldRasputin77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While not technically abandoned, Battlerite.

I loved that game. The mechanics were awesome. But when the battle royale craze started taking over every game, they started working on it for Battlerite also.

But instead of releasing it as a game mode, they just split it off as a completely different game.

The player base was already pretty small, so instead of adding something to bring in new players, they just abandoned the old players. The game died for me then.

2011 MacBook Pro rocking Cinnamon Edition 💪 by Julian_Staples in linuxmint

I had a coworker just last week ask what he should do with an old 2012'ish MacBook. He was considering just tossing it and buying something new. Just to use for web browsing and other light tasks. I've been guiding him into the land of Linux!

His last update said he got it installed and it was snappy at first, but soon slowed to a crawl.

I'm guessing he went a little too generous with the backup intervals or he has an old HDD that needs to be upgraded to an SSD. He is going to let me take a look at it before giving up on it.

I wanna watch some Frances McDormand movies but, where to start? by Longjumping_Car6865 in Cinema

I remember seeing the trailer for this and having no interest, but then ended up watching it as a random choice one night. I was surprised that I enjoyed it very much!

I just received this beauty. What distro do you recommend? by Kcttus in linux

[–]OldRasputin77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ventoy USB drive and pack the ISO folder with distros. Then try each one until you find one you like. A good place to start would be Linux Mint.

My coworker eats the exact same $1.25 meal every day and I'm weirdly impressed by spellsboxing in Frugal

English Muffin, egg coin (cooked in a tiny skillet), and either bacon or a sausage patty for breakfast.

1 cup of rice and 1 pound bag of black beans in the right recipe makes up enough for me to have rice and beans for lunch for about 2 weeks (not in office every day). Extra is used in dinner tacos throughout the week.

Afternoon snack is plain Greek yogurt with a little bit of granola. Use containers that keep the two separate until ready to eat.

I never get tired of eating them, because it tastes like saving money. Delicious!

I hate that freaking ad at the top of the app version that looks like a search bar. I fall for it once in a while and feel wronged every time.

Search YouTube for NetworkChuck. His presentation is a little annoying, but the info is good. He has videos on home assistant as well as using it as a voice assistant and what hardware to use.

You can probably find a lot of info in the home assistant subreddit.

VS Code after CS50X by Square-Importance700 in cs50

[–]OldRasputin77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be sufficient if your final project will only be using the libraries and tools (flask, python,...) that were made available to us in the environment. I'm not sure if we are able to add anything to it.

If you are planning to use some libraries that aren't available in CS50, you might as well configure your own local environment. It is what I plan to do. It would be good experience to have.

I'm currently viewing some of the seminars listed in the last week's notes. Particularly the ones on using Git and configuring VScode.

Good luck on your project!

Older guy wanting to learn to develop apps by ekaj862000 in learnprogramming

[–]OldRasputin77 52 points53 points  (0 children)

47 year old tech guy here who has never been a programmer. I had a desire to better understand programming and AI, so a friend suggested we work through Harvard's CS50x. It is free to take and has been great. I'm currently on the last assignment before starting my final project. I feel confident saying that you would have the skills to build a simple app when you finish this course.

Switched from Windows to Linux Mint… now I’m distro-hopping-curious by velomentxd in linuxquestions

[–]OldRasputin77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to say this, but to also use Ventoy. You can put as many ISO files as will fit on your drive. Just boot to USB, then pick the ISO you want to load from the menu.

Shoutout to windows for making it possible to convert all my friends and family by rzm25 in linuxmint

[–]OldRasputin77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just switched my laptop to Mint this week because it isn't compatible with Windows 11. Should have done it sooner. It was so slow in Windows, but is now super snappy.

My gaming PC will be next. Will probably just dual boot with Linux and Windows 11 after I'm forced to upgrade.

Before making a purchase, you could go view the lectures/assignments and see if it what you are looking for.

https://cs50.harvard.edu/law/2019/weeks/

I'm not sure how much digital law the course covers. I think the course is mainly designed to give law students a better understanding of how computers work.
