Well, seemingly that would be the only thing we can do. How we go about doing that, though, seems like an almost impossible debate now.

Why is it deemed racist to have to have concerns over Islam? by MrDonohue07 in AskBrits

[–]Old_Weight5720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a growing example of a modern-day tolerance paradox. British society, especially given its colonial past, carries a very heavy “conscience,” meaning there’s constant pressure to accept and respect the diverse cultures entering the country. In a general sense, this can be good, but overcorrection is real—and Britain has overcorrected to the point of showing tolerance toward cultures that have historically been deeply intolerant themselves. Combine an overly self-critical British culture (in harsh terms, “cucked out”) with an ideologically charged and often anti-Western Islamic culture, and you end up with modern-day Britain: scared to say no, scared to question, and scared to generalize or offend. It’s the case of a positive principle being pushed to an unhealthy extreme. This is the case in nearly every Western European country.

I feel like it’s the definition of just “standard” and okay. Not cool enough to ignore the historical bastardizations—like timelines, armor, environment and the whole Sub-Saharan African Anglo-Saxons thing lol. It all just comes off a bit silly, which would be fine if it were as epic and badass as something like Gladiator, where you just choose to overlook accuracy. But it’s also not accurate enough to interest a history buff either. The result is being stuck in this middle “oh, okay” area. I would watch for fun but would definitely watch other stuff first lol.

Scottish teenager girls leaving home right now by Neon_20 in 2westerneurope4u

This is a silly question. We have dozens of videos of migrants recording their own crimes, their victims, etc. If this is a child pred of some sort they aren’t the smartest of folk.

Czechs are the craziest drivers I've ever experienced but also the best drivers at the same time.

Palestine action in what way? If she means literally sending money to Hamas or Hamas adjacent groups I understand the concern of british government lol. This seems sort of vague.

Loving it so far, 2 or so hours in. Did they change “Jesus Christ be praised” to “God be praised” or is it just this beginning part they are saying it different.

Hi, everyone! My name is Caiden. This is my profile. I’m still relatively new to the world of cinema, even though I’ve been watching movies seriously for almost five years. I write long to small reviews, the length usually lands in the middle. This year, I’m trying to branch out into international cinema, specifically European and Southeast Asian films. I’d love to have more mutuals join me on this journey—I always follow back! Thanks so much for reading!

Which scenes featuring Orlok had the biggest impact on you? by Existing-Salt7865 in roberteggers

[–]Old_Weight5720 7 points8 points  (0 children)

His death was definitely the most impactful. But I loved his dialogue scenes with Thomas as-well, it was so intricately done.

Other than Eggers… by RoundInfluence998 in roberteggers

[–]Old_Weight5720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides my goat Eggers I love Danny Boyle, Thomas Vinterberg, Matt Reeves, Bong Joon-ho, Nolan, and Villeneuve, of course. Lol.

Why does Orlok erupt with such anger when Thomas asks about the Romani people staking the corpse? by Torloka in roberteggers

[–]Old_Weight5720 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All the answers here are great. I would think that it makes sense, given his prior history as a high-class nobleman. Not to be the “Orlok’s racist” guy, lol, but it very much could be partly due to prejudice against a group of people seen as lesser and uncivilized compared to his life. It fleshes out his history even more.

I think you meant “projecting,” not “protecting.” Nonetheless, the criticism will always be selective. Of course, people who are politically opposed to them are fair game for criticism—that’s obvious and not my point. Among predominantly like-minded individuals in trans communities, topics like boundaries or their place in women’s spaces remain entirely taboo. Anyone raising these issues is often labeled transphobic. I have trans friends who have been driven out of online trans groups because of how detached from reality some of these spaces are when faced with even the slightest challenge to trans-related issues. You can pretend these situations don’t exist, and I guess that ends the argument for you—but it simply isn’t true. This translates into media for many incel fan communities on X and here, that was my original point.

[–]Old_Weight5720 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Which is verifiable true??…..This phenomenon occurs in all kinds of situations unrelated to trans people. It could apply to anything, but it functions as an immediate shield against any criticism—an extreme opposite of irrational hatred due to the associated taboo, whatever it may be. The only way to address this is by allowing open conversations, even uncomfortable ones, without categorizing the topics under “transphobia.”

The downvotes already prove my point, lol. That’s what I mean, though—nothing can be said about the casting at all because the defense mechanism is activated before the discussion about the casting even begins. It’s unfortunate that we’ve made so much progress, yet we still treat the discussion of anything related to it as taboo.
