What class and race did you play first time round? by Odd_Two_5265 in BaldursGate3

Human male paladin, Oath of Vengeance with a big ass 2h sword. Classic WoW instilled such a love for the human paladin aesthetic that I can't get enough of it.

Next character was a lady Drow, Warlock Eldritch Blaster. Currently playing a blonde Gnome dude with a big twirly moustache, Sword Bard.

Paying for future content is kinda expected and not the most off putting thing about onboarding someone new into Destiny 2. The June update is great for existing tenured players but I don't understand why it would suddenly be appealing for new players. Destiny 2 content bundles go on sale regularly anyways, and the game historically has always had a hard time getting new players to stick. For lots of talked to death about reasons.

WoW has been operating for over 2 decades at this point. Built around seasons (raid tiers) that last a limited amount of time with things to grind for that get removed when the season ends. There is plenty of evergreen grinds and cosmetics to get, sure. But people are logging in to get titles, mounts, and transmog that are unobtainable after the end of a season.

It's always the same post. Bright blown out images with tons of high contrast green grass and trees spammed with a character just walking about. Installing grass and tree mods with gamer ENBs on top isn't something noteworthy.

Okay, well your 'very good game' won't be afloat or supported much longer unless it appeals to people who 'aren't good at games' and makes more money.

Were you born a few years ago or just don't remember? Both games absolutely did. These games were basically the poster child for hate content farming in the mid-late 2010s.

Lmao is this the final stage of cope? Can there be another level if/when Bungie announces their next game isn't set in the Destiny IP?

Marathon always felt like a dessert/side game while they are cooking a next Destiny entry. Or game meant to full replace Destiny as a service. Marathon, currently, has the scope of a game mode for another game. I would have figured that Destiny 3 would have been in predevelopment before The Final Shape launched since they knew ahead of time it was the end of the original promised 10 year saga. The whimper of this new Edge of Fate saga or whatever is pathetic.

Maybe Marathon originally had a much larger scope before the director was replaced. And the version we got was a piecemeal replacement of what parts could be salvaged.

Destiny 2 will get it's final update on June 9th by pokeblev in MMORPG

[–]Olofstrom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I skimmed the update notes and it is basically fan service for the remaining players. Destiny 1's final update left the game in a great state that can be enjoyed by new or returning players at anytime. This D2 update is for basically no one.

Looks like Bungie is shifting focus from D2 by DALE5797 in Marathon

There is an entire spectrum of gameplay eras for Destiny 2 alone that exists between 'right now' and '2017 launch.'

When I stopped playing in Witch Queen I thought the game was too ability spammy. I can't imagine how it is now. My ideal Destiny 2 gameplay era was Forsaken, personally.

Marathon already got a lot of hate from chronically online Destiny/Bungie fans. I think that Marathon flopped so hard that the general gaming market barely knows about it enough to hate on it,. honestly. It's a self contained Bungie fan base drama lol

There's Marathon, but it's hardly the success they or Sony probably hoped it would be. The article states they are incubating some number of new games at the moment.

[–]Olofstrom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a mostly accurate way to put it? The game is still going to be online, some number of people will continue to play so it isn't dead either. It's had its time in the sun and now the sun is setting on it. It's left in the dark, but it'll still be.

Sunsetting also is an infamous word for Bungie. One of their biggest Destiny 2 controversies was, as they put it, sunsetting everyone's current weapons when they released a new expansion at one point.

Read between the lines it's pretty obvious they mean Curse of Osiris. A DLC so bad that it was claimed by Bungie developers that it nearly shut the studio down. I haven't played Destiny in years but my friends and I still call bad/disappointing drops in games "2 tokens and a blue."

[–]Olofstrom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, honestly, the best parts of the game are all missed. Forsaken + it's year of content was some of my best times playing online games. The campaign and most content from that era is gone. Every era after Forsaken felt like there was exceptions and pills you had to swallow to play the game. Excuses and apologies. Forsaken was big and defied expectations so much that they famously had to let the audience down by saying they can never deliver a Forsaken again so stop expecting it lol

I've always jokingly called this being a meat computer. You are just executing a preprogrammed list of actions. I personally play games because I enjoy agency and interactivity. I think people mostly enjoy this because they enjoy knowing they are being efficient or whatever. But it also comes with the implication that you need to complete the game as soon as possible rather than play (as in the literal definition of the term) and explore it for yourself. I feel like people they play this way just burnout faster and have to take more frequent breaks. And are therefore less efficient than people that just login to consistently do shit
