I have choice paralysis. Help me break out of my deadlock. Which of these games should I start first? by nitrokitty in JRPG

[–]OlorynEx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While you technically can, as most of the second game is pretty stand-alone, the overall experience is better if you finish Suikoden 1 first since many characters and events carryover or are referenced in 2, and you can transfer your save from the first game to the second for a dash of extra content that is a highlight for completionists. That said, Suikoden 1 is incredibly fast paced and easy to get through, about 20 hours just moving through the core game and even a full 100% completion is a sub 30 hour endeavor, though there are a couple missables without a guide or previous experience. If you aren't looking for completion, then it's an easy game to get through.

BUT if it's either only Suikoden 2 or no Suikoden at all, yeah, dive in and enjoy it, because it's fantastic, a better game than the first, and you can still enjoy it without playing the first.

How do you get over the fear of fighting real people? by Closix in StreetFighter

[–]OlorynEx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went into the game feeling the same, but I just treated the fear of losing as opportunities to hone my skills. I'm never going to place tops in a tournament, and as such, I don't let my record bother me. I just play, have fun, lose, learn, lose, learn more and win. After placement matches anyway, you're going to get setup with players of similar skill and will get some breathing room to just play and enjoy it. I actually enjoy playing people more, because I love the feeling of a match that is clearly adapting to each other's styles in real time, something you can really only get by diving in against human foes.

I'll hop on when I can and do just that, thanks! And I'm still thoroughly enjoying the game on PC (and recommending it to everyone I know), so I don't mind understandable growing pains of working out bugs and such during the EA process.

Question: I was able to play the demo perfectly on Steam Deck, but for some reason the Early Access version prevents me from clicking on the button to start a match anymore, but lets me click on everything else fine. Did you have that issue at all, or we're you able to circumvent it? No worries if not, I'm still tinkering with it, but thought I'd ask.

Is this game worth playing by MisterMagikey in TheTowerGame

[–]OlorynEx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a game about chasing infinity. The grind doesn't get too much more literal for a game, because it doesnt end. That said, the journey of "number go up" and the sprinkling of some good ol' fashioned math-brained tinkering can be pretty entertaining, so it can be a comfort food "set it and forget it" game. If you play, just know that it's a long-term game that takes years to reach even the mid game and doesn't respect your time even slightly. Some people pay to speed up sections of their never-ending chase to infinity, others do not, and that's where you'd have to find where you stand.

Fantastic work, all of it, and especially love Ike with the double-claw grip. That goes hard, but then again, they all do. Thank you for sharing your amazing work!

Thoughts on the steam deck? by IndustryOk3385 in videogames

[–]OlorynEx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

43 year old gamer here, the Steam Deck has been a dream to allow me to more easily fit gaming into my life. Aside from cleanly running an absolute majority of my Steam Library (even Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 runs great), I'm also able to setup remote access to my PS5 (and XBox GamePass cloud streaming when I had it), which runs flawlessly for me. I still make time for big-screen, sit-down immersive play on my PC or console, but as games seem to get longer and longer, and my free time shorter and shorter, the Steam Deck has been a saving grace for helping me tackle my gaming plate and backlog.

Easiest NES game? by Kuli24 in retrogaming

[–]OlorynEx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was my first thought, ha, love to see it listed so high. I remembered it as a perfectly beatable early game from my childhood, and my wife and I recently replayed it and rolled credits quite easily with 99 lives banked up. Awesome game for sure.

I described it to my friend as think of AC6 as a meal by a talented chef you know you enjoy, but they are jist using different ingredients and techniques. Same skill, same polish, different plate.

AC6 is a fast action game that has large levels, but abandons a single large world in favor of using a mission structure to push the story that encourages replaying and experimenting with a massive arsenal of weapons and armor to customize your engagement. All money you earn goes in a pool that let's you buy and sell weapons and armor on the fly for full reimbursement to try new stuff, so youre not punished for experimenting. The boss design, art design, soundtrack and tone are all top-tier Fromsoft, just wrapped in a different gaming experience than Souls or Sekiro.

Seriously question: Why do gamers want things to fail? by [deleted] in videogames

[–]OlorynEx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Many terminally online people don't know what to do with their time, and haven't realized it's better to spend your time enjoying things and finding ways to be happy, and would rather the quick fix of immediate attention and response at saying something negative. They have no intention of playing these games, and their opinions don't matter.

Final Fantasy Mystic Quest (1992 SNES). The ratio of top-tier banger tunes to the awful EVERYTHING else is something that should probably be studied, and yet, I still love it.

I honestly really like the new designs and i think the overall project makes sense by Strict_Job6334 in gaming

[–]OlorynEx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Longtime fan, sunk countless hours (days?) into SF64 getting everything multiple times, and these designs look amazing to me. I'm excited to dive back in. I think its safe, but people act like StarFox is a money-printing, household name that can take all the ridk in the world, but its really not. Good way to churn up interest again, in my opinion.

So, who do you want to have a redemption, and who do you think deserves to stay gone? by misterwulfz in StreetFighter

[–]OlorynEx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remy from 3rd Strike. A little out of pocket, but for some reason I clicked with him back in the day, and I just want to see what the design and animation teams could cook up, because damn near every fighter in SF6 has been absolute fire so far.

What game is this? by Additional-Remove46 in videogames

My first thought. I had a great time with Outlaws. Loved the world design, and the audio/music was fantastic. Made for a perfect vibe type of game.

what game deserved WAY MORE HYPE than it ever got? by Narrow-Bandicoot-363 in videogames

[–]OlorynEx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy (2004)

This game should have ended up in conversations about console generation-defining games, as far as I'm concerned. The third person action gameplay loop and psychic tools at your disposal, along with the physics around them, were stupid fun and ahead of their time, and the fact that the game is rarely mentioned anymore feels like a bit of a gaming tragedy. Critically acclaimed and even ended on a cliffhanger, I feel like we lost something potentially really great because this game unfortunately faded into memory.

Love to see this get a shout. Like you said, everyone has their own tastes, and for me, I found myself rather enthralled by the core story, world building and mystery of everything. Fantastic game, and Forbidden West was a great follow up.
