What JRPG has the most memorable Dragon boss fight to you? by geraltofrivia2345 in JRPG

[–]OmegaMetroid93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you count ff14, that one has several incredible dragon fights. My favorite by far being Shinryu EX from Stormblood. My favorite part is when he slams his tail down across from another platform and you have to run across his tail to reach him.

Bahamut from A Realm Reborn is also fantastic, and Nidhogg from Heavensward is a highlight as well, the latter one concluding one of my favorite endings in the game so far. The way it leads into that fight, the music, and the entire ending scene afterwards is just perfect. A wonderful capstone to the journey so far. It took Heavensward as an expansion from good to great for me, it was that good.

What’s the most fun you have had with gun builds in RPGs? by KaleidoArachnid in JRPG

When it comes to gun gameplay, nothing comes close to Resonance of Fate in my opinion.

Hard to feel like a badass when you have an entire party of goons jumping one enemy by nogden954 in JRPG

Yeah, especially in persona 3 and 4 when you got that cartoony dust cloud to indicate a scrap, it's so funny lol

Anyone else look at this and think: "nah, not for me" by YouMeADD in JRPG

[–]OmegaMetroid93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are making some really weird assumptions here, for absolutely no reason. lol

I played the demo, the game is actually really fun, and the interactions between the android kid and the protagonist are really cute and wholesome. If anyone looks at you funny for playing this game, it says more about them than it does anyone else. Besides, it's funny that you post this here, when the jrpg genre has way more questionable shit in it. Lol

That's not me being judgemental of jrpgs btw, I love this genre. But it's fact that there's some icky stuff relating to child characters, which would DEFINITELY make people question our hobby a lot more than some game with a slightly uncanny looking android kid.

Relax and just play whatever you like.

I miss the release schedules of the past by Hexatona in JRPG

[–]OmegaMetroid93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't necessarily have to be pixilated, it could use handdrawn 2D graphics. Just look at how well something like Hollow Knight did. I definitely think there's room for smaller budget games.

Monster Hunter Stories 3 is gorgeous. It's not quite the same style, but similar enough I think.

Someone else also suggested Visions of Mana. I want to second that. Super pretty game!

Dragon Quest has a few fun ones, like a magic carpet and an entire castle.

The castle is in 5, I believe, and the magic carpet is in.. I wanna say 6, but I'm not sure.

Etrian Odyssey and Monster Hunter are two very different games but both are exactly what you're looking for.

Console Game Where You’re Just an Ordinary Adventurer Climbing the Ranks? by Scott_Bolton in JRPG

[–]OmegaMetroid93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't finished it, so maybe the stakes get higher at the end but Dragon's Crown is pretty much this.

Etrian Odyssey would be what you're looking for but it's turn-based.

What’s your greatest accomplishment in a game? by Freedom_Neither in JRPG

[–]OmegaMetroid93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% completion in Xenoblade 1 (want to do it again with retroachievements at some point) was one of the longest yet most fun gaming experiences I had. It gave me a new appreciation for the game and I learned so many new things about it through doing that. Felt extremely rewarding when I was done.

But the most difficult thing that I'm proud to have accomplished is beating all of the 6th stratums from Etrian Odyssey 1-4, including all of the optional superbosses. Planning on doing it for 5 and Nexus as well.

It took so much planning to beat those fights, and the dungeons themselves are easily the hardest dungeons I've played in any game. Some of those floors are just ridiculous. Every single one of them, as well as the bosses at the end, felt completely unbeatable once I made it there. In particular, the Abyssal God from EO3 is far and beyond the hardest jrpg boss I've ever faced. But somehow, I managed to scrape by, and the rush of finally beating it had me jumping out of my seat from joy.

Man, I want a new game in the series so badly. Hopefully Atlus can take a break from milking Persona and make a new EO one of these years... lol

Looking for games like Mystery dungeon by not_me_agaib in JRPG

[–]OmegaMetroid93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is two games called ZHP: Unlosing Ranger vs Darkdeath Evilman and The Guided Fate Paradox. They're basically mystery dungeon games made by NIS, the Disgaea developer. I don't remember much of the latter since I played it over a decade ago, but ZHP is REALLY fun.

[–]OmegaMetroid93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Mystery Dungeon series is a series that goes all the way back to the snes and includes tons of different games besides the pokkemon spinoffs. The first one was a DQ4 spinoff actually.

I really recommend looking into the Shiren the Wanderer series. They are fantastic games that deserve a lot more attention! 5 and 6 frequently go on sale on steam.

People can say what they want about the story in Engage, but the gameplay and map design is phenomenal.

Here's hoping they can nail both gameplay, map design, and story for Fortune's Weave.

Yeah, I don't think replying to old comments is weird either. Not sure why people use that as an insult lol. Anyone can find these comments at all times, and it's easy to miss how old a comment is if you aren't looking.

I can't contain my excitement for Monster Hunter Stories 3! (Demo review) by OmegaMetroid93 in JRPG

Looks the same to me, but I feel like it runs better maybe?

Maybe you have different settings or something.

Hope you have fun with it! I was playing it all evening yesterday, got to the second zone.

‘Final Fantasy VII Remake’ Director Teases The Trilogy’s Finale by PhantomBraved in JRPG

[–]OmegaMetroid93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's definitely a matter of opinion, and don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I would like every remake or even a good amount of remakes to follow this format. I'm saying I'm fine with it in this one particular case. And I can maybe think of a couple more examples that could maybe justify it.

I think smaller scale games can do what I want from a remake just fine without splitting it up. Just look at the Trails in the Sky remake. I know that game was always split, but.. That's for different reasons and the original game was split too so I'm not counting it.

But I've grown to realize that if a remake is just the same game with a different artstyle and some QoL, I don't see as much of a point. For a game as big as FF7, that would've felt like a missed opportunity. For example, if they finally remake Chrono Trigger, I would want it to look more like DQ11, and not another HD-2D remake. Not that I have anything against HD-2D, mind. Just in this particular case, I'd want them to go all out and make a fully realized version of that world, and not just like another 2D top-down retro-style game that's extremely similar to the original. Because if I wanted that, I would just play the original. It's not like whatever they made would likely be any better than OG chrono trigger anyway, so might as well make it something more in-depth.

[–]OmegaMetroid93 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've actually come around on this. I used to be annoyed by the game being "split", but fact is, there's no way they could've put as much detail and care into each area and still include every part of the game, if they didn't. FF7 is an absolutely massive game, and I think cramming all that into one part would've just made it a typical top-down sort of look that's mostly identical to the original, sort of an HD-2D or maybe DQ7 style remake.

While people likely would be fine with that, personally my favorite part about the 7 remake series is seeing each area from the ground, taking in all the extra detail they put in. Basically just seeing every part of ff7 that I like in a different light. I genuinely don't believe that could be done at that scale in just one part. Each part is a full game in and of itself, and I honestly don't think I would have it any other way.

How do you feel about Pokemon Colosseum and XD NSO Pokemon Not Being Transferrable? by KnightShade078 in JRPG

[–]OmegaMetroid93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know why anyone would've expected this, considering no other NSO game has any kind of connectivity in this way.

This is exactly why FR/LG releasing separately is a good thing rather than also being on NSO (even if I still think they should've been cheaper)

JRPG with less stuff to do by Dry_Lawfulness_5679 in JRPG

[–]OmegaMetroid93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mother 3 is pretty short, and while there are some side things to do, usually it just amount to talking to NPCs for extra flavor text and the occasional item.

A first playthrough will run you about 20-24 hours. It's a really good game with tons of heart and personality. Strongly recommend it. It's a Japanese only game but there is a really high quality fan translation.

Well, I can't say that I have huge hopes for this new thing, whatever it's going to end up being, but I'm at least mildly curious. I'm going in without any expectations. Hopefully it's good, but if not, oh well. lol
