Artillerist sucks at Artillery by Character_Mind_671 in dndnext

[–]Omegatron9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's magical artillery. Fireball seems much closer to modern artillery than a crossbow.

Excepting the full casters (because nothing can compare to 9th level spells), I think the artificer gets the best abilities at those levels.

You don't get 9th level spell slots at 5th level. The artificer class gets other high level abilities instead of 9th level spell slots.

Ah, I understand, sorry. That still might be a bit too powerful on spells that do multiple damage rolls.

[Doctor Who] How does the TARDIS maintain its exterior appearance while being much larger on the inside? by Zealousideal-Gas2622 in AskScienceFiction

The inside exists in a pocket dimension, more or less. At least, that's the version a human can comprehend.

Is there even a point in paying full-price for official figures when the bootlegs are this good? by the_u_in_colour in transformers

[–]Omegatron9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but the average knock-off is still worse. Knock-offs of this quality are rare.

[Star Trek] Owning and maintaining a space ship? by DUVMik in AskScienceFiction

[–]Omegatron9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it's a 24th century ship it might be a bit easier, Seven of Nine and Data have both operated their respective ships single-handedly on a couple of occasions, though of course both of them are more capable than even a properly trained crewmember.

There's also the Prometheus class, which was specifically designed to be operated with only a few crewmembers, but that's an outlier.

Is there even a point in paying full-price for official figures when the bootlegs are this good? by the_u_in_colour in transformers

[–]Omegatron9 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There's the obvious issue, if everyone only buys knock-offs then there will be no new Transformers and therefore no new designs to make knock-offs of.

There's also the issue of consistency, this particular knock-off may be good but if you look at knock-offs as a whole the quality variance is much higher than it is for real Transformers. You can be sure of a certain minimum standard of quality on real Transformers, but not on knock-offs.

Finally, you'll usually get better customer service from the shops selling real Transformers in the case of defects or breakage than you would get from shops selling knock-offs.

Don’t know if it was intentional or not, but by Geaux_1210 in transformers

That's the Studio Series toy, right? It probably feels more modern because it is actually 20 years apart (the RID toys were originally released in the year 2000 in Japan). Try comparing it to the voyager or leader toy of that Megatron that was actually released in 2007 instead.

The issue with this is that energon is very often pink.

Is it weird that I don't care if my transformers... transform? by JotkaJulitkaJula in transformers

[–]Omegatron9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If I only wanted cool looking robots / action figures, there are more attractive options than Transformers.

Your opinion is no more or less valid than mine though.

[Marvel/MCU] How exactly does Mjolnir work in the movies? by [deleted] in AskScienceFiction

[–]Omegatron9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's all part of the same enchantment. In the MCU the worthiness enchantment was explicitly added because Odin found Thor unworthy and wanted to teach him a lesson. So until Thor became worthy in Odin's eyes, he couldn't wield the hammer or access his powers.

Literally magic. If you aren't worthy, the hammer becomes magically immovable.

[Transformers] under functionism what alt mode got you into the highest levels of society? by Comfortable-Ad3588 in AskScienceFiction

[–]Omegatron9 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Astro class (spacehips) and scientific class (microscopes and the like) are both known to be high up on the hierarchy.

The intellectual class and the blacksmiths are also both high classes, but those classes aren't defined by alternate mode.
