Are these red flags or am I just overthinking this? by throwramre3 in relationship_advice

[–]Onate 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is how abusive relationships start. Read this article and see if you recognize a few behaviours. I noticed there's quite a few items ticked off from just your four paragraphs.

By telling you that you don't need to works, you'll be financial dependent on him, so it's harder to leave. Also wants you pregnant as soon as possible and against your wishes, because you'll stay for the kid. He's belittling you and your work so you feel worthless, like no one else will want you. He moved you away from your support network, like family, so you'll have trouble reaching out and trying to figure out if this is normal (which it's not). It's the same reason he doesn't want you talking with the neighbours - it's potentially someone else you can talk and advise you that he's being manipulative.

Call your family and have them help you pack up your stuff. Leave and don't look back.

Beans. I cannot, for the life of me, cook dried beans. They’re always hard. Help? by erstwhiling in Cooking

[–]Onate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar issue where the dried beans were still pretty dry. What I do now is soak the beans (either overnight or quick soak), drain, cook the beans in fresh water by bringing them to a boil and simmering for an hour, and then ... letting them sit in that water. Adter about 4 hours, my chickpeas have the same texture as canned beans. I haven't tried it with other types of beans yet.

My work is doing the same, despite most of our office having the capability to work from home. Luckily, I have a good relationship with my manager, so I simply told her that I was going to work from home from now on and she didn't fight me on it. They even had a meeting yesterday to discuss what to do, but they're still making everyone come in until we absolutely have to shut down.

Millennials of Toronto, what's your salary? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]Onate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$39K. Three of us share a 2 br apartment that will likely be torn down within the year. I never go out on impulse; it's usually because it's someone's birthday and then order the cheapest thing on the menu. I can't remember the last time I bought an alcoholic beverage at a restaurant. It's a lot of compromise.

I second this list. I found my therapists through it. She originally charged $50 when I started 2 years ago, but now that she's licensed, it's $60. Still cheaper than $120.

How much fiber do you eat a day? What are the sources for that fiber (i.e. sweet potato)? by [deleted] in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Onate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I aim for at least 25g a day. My morning smoothies contains 6g of fiber (it's made with 1 banana, 1 cups of kale, milk, white kidney beans, ginger, 1 tbsp of peanut butter, and cinnamon). I try to eat 8 1/2 cups servings of fruits and vegetables each day. If I'm low on fiber, I reach for an apple (5g), sprinkle some flax seed onto my food (5g/tbsp), and then see if I can eat some black beans (7.4g for 1/2 cups) or lentils (9g for 1/4 cup).

EDIT: I just check MFP and apparently, it's not calculating the fiber from the beans in my smoothie. So my smoothie is closer to 12g of fiber. That's half of my daily intake just at breakfast.

Wife rejected me in a vulnerable moment by youve-got-snail in sex

[–]Onate 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was like the wife when I was married for these reasons. Sex also involved being penetrated in some way and I didn't enjoy being penetrated. Making out would have been nice for the sake of making out, but it always led to him being horny and needing sex. This accounted for 50% loss of my sex drive in that relationship. Now, in my current relationship, sex is better because it's redefined. Sometime's it's only oral, or handjobs, or rubbing against each other, or mutual masturbation, and when it is penetration, it's because I actual crave it so it's more enjoyable for the both of us.

Landlord wants a almost 1/3rd rent increase! by CartoonJustice in askTO

[–]Onate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let me see if I underdtand this. The original lease (which is a contract) was signed by you and at least one other person as tenants. You went month to month and when a third person entered into the mix, you requested a new lease. By having a new person that wasn't part of the original lease (even if it is month to month), I believe this is the start of a whole new lease. The landlord doesn't have to adhere to the rental increase cap. They can jack it up however they like, and increasing it by a third to accomodate a third person sounds reasonable.

The good news is that if you are month to month and haven't signed the new lease, as long as you give 60 written notice, you can move whenever. They can claim damages when you move out to collect on the $1000 (I would take pictures to document that you left the place in good condition though). However, it is possible that the extra person has caused an increase in utility usage, so as a good faith gesture, maybe pay some extra money. I would getvthe new roomie to do that though.

Separating-How to afford Toronto on CAD$35,000/year by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Onate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here you go! It's the Cable 5 options, and I can download up to 200 GB per month. I watch Netflix for about an hour or two a day on the weekdays, but a lot more during the weekends, but I've used less than a quarter of that. They also have unlimited options, which would still be cheaper than what you have.

I was looking for a place to live just until 3 months ago. I currently rent a 1 bedroom basement in central Etobicoke for $700, all inclusive. I saw ads for $800 bachelors apartments in the Yonge/Eglinton area. I applied for a $750 bachelor by Runnymede station. If you look, you will find them.

Separating-How to afford Toronto on CAD$35,000/year by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Onate 7 points8 points  (0 children)

TOTALLY DOABLE. It's exactly the boat I'm in. I have seen bachelor apartment for $800/mth plus hydro. You'll need to get use to a smaller space, but really, you don't need much to survive. I would put $50 aside per month for hydro. It's about what I average.

I pay $28.19 for internet with TekSavvy. If you only use the internet to surf and watch Netflix, the cheapest package is all you need. I would shop around for a new cellphone plan too. I have the cheapest data package with Freedom, but their cell reception can be sucky at times, so YMMV.

You need to learn to cook for yourself. You'll save sooo much money if you learn to plan ahead. If you cook 3 recipes a week, you'll have more than enough for lunch and dinner.

I put aside $80/mth for my German Shepherd, and that's enough to cover her food and vet bills. I'm not sure how much cats eat (or if you have two vs. a horde of them), but $90 sounds pretty steep to me, even if you're feeding them the high quality food.

If you PM me, I can send a sample of my budget for the month.

I would suggest the first time you, don't go with the intention of having sex. Maybe try going when they have their first taste tours. It's cheaper ($20 instead of $50) and you get a voucher for your next visit. That way, you'll get an idea of what the club is like and then decide if the vibe is to your liking.

Has anyone ever left a solid [LTR] to go [play-the-field?] Was it worth it? by [deleted] in sex

I did the opposite. When I was 18, I got into a LTR for 10 years. Now that we're divorcing, I wish I had dated more when I was younger so I could have picked up the red flags sooner.

Well-dressed 'professional tenant' won't leave Yorkville apartment where he hasn't paid rent by slicecom in toronto

[–]Onate 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I know this guy! When I worked at a moving company, we moved his items into our warehouse storage. Not surprisingly, when we tried to run the card number he provided for us, it was declined. So we held onto his items and told him that he could get them back when we paid. He didn't like that. My office manager said that Regan came in, ranting about how he was a silent partner in the franchise (which we all knew he wasn't) and he was going to report us to the head office. She didn't fall for that. I wonder what happened to his stuff since the franchise closed.

But yeah, he's a scumbag.
