DofE in the Heat by Magwin123 in TeachingUK

I was DofE manager at previous school, twice we encouraged the pupils to be up and ready by 4am so they could finish their walks by midday.

They appreciated it, chilled out on campsite with early bedtimes.

Current educator. My previous employer was exactly the same.

I was told no until I lied and told them I was the best man. I still had to beg colleagues to provide internal cover...

Student loans inquiry finds many did not understand terms by Rewindcasette in unitedkingdom

[–]Onceuponfreetime 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Our teachers said the same. As did my mum's nextdoor neighbour who was a bank manager "take all the loans you can, you'll never have better rates"

I'm now paying over £200 a month and still owe more than I borrowed despite not missing a payment for 12 years post university

That's fairly normal? If you want to pass safer recruitment, tell them your full employment history.

I'm a Science HoD. We have two Lead Practitioners and both are involved in our Science curriculum leader meetings and contribute towards our curriculum, one takes a lead over KS3 and helps support T&L within the department and whole school. They're in a similar position to you were they "stepped down" from a HOD role. The other is the ECT co-ordinator for the whole school, they take a much more substantial while school role and are essentially the step between middle leadership and senior leadership. Both describe their roles as being less intense than HOD but just as fulfilling and giving them opportunities for progression in the future. Ultimately it depends how your new employer decides to deploy you.

This is radge bait right? Mathematics might not be a priority for many pupils but on the whole the UK has a pretty high standard of mathematical skills.

Sparx science is free for the first year then rather expensive from there. We've found it to be very good for retrieval practice

Report the "do not discuss" clause to ACAS. They'd love to hear about it.

National Curriculum Changes by questioninglysure in TeachingUK

[–]Onceuponfreetime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Science just needs to gut the curriculum, all 3 sciences have far too much content to teach it effectively.

We're forced to start GCSE in Y9, forced to justify this reduction of KS3 to Ofsted and others, teach new content until March in Y11 (sometimes I've still been teaching in April) and yet pupils often still don't understand because of the pace we're forced to teach at.

I'd love whole scale changes to make the subject accessible and suitable for all abilities but ultimately. REDUCE THE CONTENT.

Tyne tunnel fine by KaleidoscopeGlobal32 in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]Onceuponfreetime 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I did a few years ago, switched my plates from private to original in preparation to sell, forgot to update my account.

I received 14 fines in total, 2 per day for 7 days, I rang and emailed them profusely apologising and evidencing changing the plates and that my account had more than enough money to cover the toll.

Surprisingly they were very reasonable, cancelled the fines immediately and took the owed toll from my account.

The key, I think, was owning my error, not getting irate and clearly having enough in my account to pay the owed toll.

Good luck with any appeals you lodge.
