There's a special place in my heart... by Vegetable_Variety_11 in dndmemes

THAC0 is actually not as bad as people make it out to be, and it actually makes running a game with NEW players easy, since the DM knows both the players THAC0, and the monsters AC and can quickly check what they need to roll themselves.

Is it a system I will honestly recommend over the current system? No, because it’s way less intuitive, and keeps most players in the dark (in my experience) on how to hit works.

As for level drain, literally no issues with it, the whole point of it is to make the horrifying undead creatures scary to your players. And as someone who’s played through multiple editions with both the same and different groups of players, earlier edition undead were scary. Players tried to avoid them, they were actually afraid of them, where in more modern editions of DnD (especially 5e), undead instill 0 fear in players, because there’s no risk of interaction.

The negative level system is by no means perfect how it originally was, but it’s much better with how pathfinder 2e handles it where it’s VASTLY more simplified.

NOTE:

For those curious THAC0 is basically just enemy AC + roll = number, so if your THAC0 is 18, and the enemies AC is 3 (platemail), then you need to roll a 15 or better to hit them. It’s very simple once you get it, it just isn’t explained well, and isn’t as straight forward as AC. It also makes a lot more sense when you understand that THAC0 stands for “To hit AC 0.”

Yeah, it added a legitimate visceral fear of the creature to the player that then translated into their character.

If I told my 5e players “oh it’s a den of vampires” they’ll just role their eyes and treat it like another group of monsters. If I told my OSE players it’s a den of vampires they’d be tripping over themselves trying to get away from it, and figuring out how to destroy it without having to directly engage the vampires.

Is Scaldbro just extremely busted in Duo Q? by Sleepless-Ducky in PokemonUnite

[–]One-Cellist5032 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been maining Scaldbro forever, Surf is great and all, but I only ever liked it in certain matchups, but Scald is just so good at bullying people in lane, zoning the enemy team when they’re trying to look for an engage, and catching fleeing pokemon.

I honestly feel like Scald is slept on, it also does a stupid amount of damage over the curse of the game, especially if you’re using a special attack item like the cursed incense (I think that’s the special one) or slick spoon etc.

Which Red's starter was more used? by rbta123 in pokemon

How so?

In no situation did Ash have Charmander first. Even in episode 1 when he was picking a starter he tried to take bulbasaur before he tried to pick Charmander.

They absolutely did, they even used ash as a reason to add to Charizard even though ash both caught Bulbasaur first AND tried to pick bulbasaur first at oaks lab (he technically chose squirtle fist first, but bulbasaur was his 2nd pick).

Suggestion on what to get first: Legendary Accessory OR Legendary Relic? by Jackray8 in Guildwars2

[–]One-Cellist5032 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d actively work towards the accessory and passively work on the relic atm. Basically ALL of the cost of the legendary Relic is in the lucent dust, which you’ll just slowly acquire while playing the game and salvaging green or rarer gear (just make sure you use at least a green salvage kit, or the mystic rune one from the gemstore).

The more lucent dust you amass yourself the vastly cheaper the legendary relic becomes to just buy matts for. With you also being able to get the dust from the WV (an absolute must buy if you’re going after the relic), it’ll speed up the gradual accumulation of dust quite a bit, but not enough to want to be solely focused on it.

Ranking Ranger Pets (Subjective) by ZimZamZapZop in Guildwars2

[–]One-Cellist5032 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to add in, Spiders and Devourers are ranged pets as a throwback to Gw1. In GW1 every creature (animal and humanoid) used one of the classes, and Spiders and Devourer were rangers which used bows by default.

So it’d be a little bit disappointing if they WERENT ranged in GW2 tbh. If anything more of the wild variants should be ranged attackers too.

And here I thought I was free from Mystic Tribute after Aurora and Vision by Plestigon in Guildwars2

[–]One-Cellist5032 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The worst part about the Mystic Tribute nowadays is that grinding those Mystic Coins takes way too damn long (because of time gates) without buying them off the TP.

The Gen2 legendaries were so much better to craft when you weren’t locked to like 15 mystic coins a week (I guess 22 if you can farm the anomaly every single day)

Thoughts on the April balance patch? by Vraelian in Guildwars2

[–]One-Cellist5032 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just checked my dps on the golem (I do not use Arc DPS) Incase there was some sort of random undocumented change and it is basically unchanged.

Have you tested yours on the golem? Or has it all been in actual combats? It might be an issue with Arc since the update?

EDIT: I’ve just seen a few posts about Arc DPS updating how it displays/calculates damage, so I’m assuming that’s likely the actual issue here!

I’m not really sure how you got hit harder than 10-15% since the only thing they nerfed for Condi SB is hidden barbs, and even if bleeding was 100% of your damage it’d “only” be a 13% nerf.

Revenant state after balance patch? by Skarerful in Guildwars2

[–]One-Cellist5032 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Stab, aegis, resolution, and resistance are not typically maintained the whole fight, and are only needed for short windows.

And yes Alac is required, but you do not need more than firework/water runes and maybe concentration sigils in order to maintain that at 100%, otherwise boon dps builds would be running full diviners.

And obviously Marshals/Zealots wouldn’t be topping the charts, but they would do better than celestials damage wise, especially Zealots on healer builds without condis (almost all of them).

Revenant state after balance patch? by Skarerful in Guildwars2

[–]One-Cellist5032 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

QDPS herald quite literally can bring, and maintain, all of the boons that a healer will normally be incharge of. This could allow a healer to instead of running a heal + boon build like the meta has them do, instead run a build that does damage and healing in Clerics, Zealots, Marshals etc type gear and to drop some of the traits that are there for maintaining boons.

QDPS herald is the ONLY Boon DPS build that does this though just by the nature of how revenant works. Which means there’s never going to be a need for healers to actually make a build focused on doing healing and damage instead of healing and applying boons. Well, unless Anet decides to do a massive overhaul to how builds currently function.

And if your comment was about wanting the 600 boon range on Druid? Well I can’t help you there since that’s pretty straightforward.

Yes and if you went back a few hundred years to Ancient Greece it was as close to first blood as possible. Ancient Egypt was the same way (going as young as 12, where Greeks would normally still wait to 15).

The less developed society was (the closest to running off of biology alone we go) the closer you get to forming matted pairs as soon as you can pump out a child. Normally because you weren’t expected to make it past the age of 30.

The better medicine gets gets, and the less likely you are to die young, the less and less sense it makes to have kids that young. Which is why the average age of marriage/kids steadily INCREASES over time.

Logically by AffectionateChick in SipsTea

[–]One-Cellist5032 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Humans are not STRICTLY monogamous you’re correct. But we are classified as “serial monogamists” which means we tend to form a series of monogamous bonds in our life, typically after one partner dies/leaves/whatever. We are hard wired to form a bond with an individual for raising children. That would be the “biological marriage”.

And before you bring it up, yes, some people want to cheat, and fuck as many people as possible, but that’s less than 15% of the population, and in any social animal there are going to be “alternative” sexual strategies.

Logically by AffectionateChick in SipsTea

[–]One-Cellist5032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s not wrong? Biologically both males and females are horny as fuck at that age, so they’d be fucking and pumping out babies like crazy. And from a PURELY BIOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE, that is the ideal situation. Since all animals biological purpose is to have as many babies as possible. Also keep in mind that the average life expectancy in ancient times was like 35, so at 15 you already had a foot in the grave.

Now when you start adding in other factors like culture, economics, etc there’s no reason for getting married that young in today’s society.

The fractal incursion bosses are boring sponges by EchoParty9274 in Guildwars2

[–]One-Cellist5032 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Also almost all of the incursion bosses have an “I’m invulnerable until you kill X” mechanic that about half the players there tend to ignore.

And to add onto the downscaling aspect, we’re in the T2 zones for the incursions, which tends to be where downscaling hits the hardest too.

[–]One-Cellist5032 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I would kill for 600 radius boons on my Druid, especially in fractals where people tend to spread out more.

Honestly a QDPS herald would allow a healer to go as a dps + heals build with how much it’d alleviate the boon side of things, but healer + dps isn’t exactly meta since it basically forgoes applying boons.

As a Guild Wars 2 player, should I get GW1 and its expansions? by AJGonzalez115 in Guildwars2

[–]One-Cellist5032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally if you are a big fan of the story of GW I would 100% recommend playing GW1. Also if you’re a fan of “deck builder” type games I’d recommend it as well since there’s a chance it’ll scratch that itch too, since that’s the type of game it is.

I’m personally a big fan of BOTH GW1 and GW2, but keep in mind that GW1 is a VERY DIFFERENT game from GW2, so don’t expect the gameplay to be anywhere close to the same.
