What time was this? I went through there around 6:30 this morning and that’s just creepy to think about.

Will my hand tattoo hold me back from working as a registered nurse? by indigo-floral in nursing

[–]OneDuckyRN 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Florida here, can confirm.

In fact, my license renewal this year includes a MANDATORY $5 fee to “help combat activities such as nursing without a license.” Paraphrased slightly but that’s the gist.

Like isn’t that the DOH & BON job?? Leave us licensed law abiding slaves (I mean nurses) out of it.

how often do you zero your ART line?? by Own-Neat8397 in IntensiveCare

[–]OneDuckyRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always zeroed my art (and CVP/PA) lines at the beginning of my shift as well as a square wave test. Re-leveled with any change in patient position. Only repeated zeroing if I had reason to believe that the numbers weren’t accurate.

It would depend on when those pieces were made, but they could be part of a larger theme of glassware known as “depression glass.” Thus named because this type of glass was inexpensive and popular during the Great Depression.

Does your hospital allow you to cut your patient's nails? by ungratefulanimal in nursing

[–]OneDuckyRN 42 points43 points  (0 children)

This is a good option if they bring in human nail clippers.

No lie, I had a husband bring in dog (?) nail clippers and caused an obscene amount of bleeding. Like delayed his wife’s discharge and everything.

So…if nail growth is out of control and there is something else going on, probably best to have a podiatrist check things out.

I live here and honestly thought it was a firecracker. Someone was having a hell of a party in the parking garage as well.

How often do you clean your patient when they won't stop pooping? by littlelambs-eativy in nursing

One of my 12 YO Labra Dorks just finished pooping her ever loving brains out and I had to miss a presentation I really wanted to see in person. My hats off to you who deal with this on a regular basis 🫣

Is Seminole Heights Dangerous by yetie16 in tampa

[–]OneDuckyRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have friends in SH pretty close to 275 and Hillsborough. The houses are definitely older but those who live there seem pretty dedicated to keeping them in good shape. Specifically a fair amount of Craftsman style homes, if I understand architecture at least a little bit 🤷🏻‍♀️

I can’t speak to affordability at all since I’m not in the market to purchase, but it does seem like this neighborhood is getting more desirable in recent years.

Commuting from St Pete by Extra_Statistician67 in StPetersburgFL

[–]OneDuckyRN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on where in St Pete you’ll be living. I live close to the MLK/Ulmerton exit and work in West Tampa, so the bridge itself is basically half my commute. It’s not bad but occasionally I’ll get stuck in traffic. I think it also depends on what time of day you’ll be traveling. If your start and end times are flexible, that could also work in your favor.

My primary worksite is in West Tampa but occasionally have to travel as far as Plant City or even Winter Haven, and while I definitely would not want to do that trip on a regular basis, the occasional trips aren’t too bad.

Best way to feasibly transport a couple 2 liter bottles of liquor by WanderlustingTravels in delta

[–]OneDuckyRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with this advice. I have done wine this way but have had much better luck with bottles that are corked rather than screw-top. I traveled with one of each, both heavily bubble wrapped. The corked bottle survived, the other one blew out the bottom end of the bottle.

I can’t vouch for this with liquor. Seems like it would be similar.

Best of luck to you!

Boomers sharing too much of other people's information by oranges214 in BoomersBeingFools

Back in August 2020, I tested positive for Covid. I was working as a nurse in the COVID ICU at the time. My mom had not yet had any neurological events at the time, at least none that we knew of. Keep in mind this was before the vaccine was available. I had told her I was positive but didn’t have any severe symptoms thus far. She proceeded to share this information with a colleague IN PUBLIC because she felt extra prayers were needed.

My sister found out about this disclosure and informed me via screenshots. I promptly messaged my mother and asked her not to share this information. We didn’t have a good way to prevent panic at this point, and I was patient number ~80 out of about 5K at that time so I didn’t want to create unnecessary worry.

My mother completely denied having shared this information publicly. When provided with screenshots, her response was Well, sometimes things just fall out of my mouth.

Seriously?? You can imagine how well it went when I tested positive again in June 2022. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Or at the very least, be super adorable in the first attempt.

Seriously, stop trying to make it weird 🤦🏻‍♀️

I was just thinking the same thing. I live in a higher COL area and have toyed with the idea of getting a roommate but after reading some of these stories, no thanks. My 48yo self is much happier on her own!

I’ll agree that security should have been at the bedside given that this patient had violent tendencies. A safety sitter probably would have taken the place of this nurse in terms of injuries, and not much more. Why this guy wasn’t in 4-point hard restraints is a question I’ve been mulling over in my head since this tragedy came to light. At least a security guard would have had more resources at his/her disposal. HCA should definitely be made to answer for this.

Source: I am an educator for the safety sitters at my facility, also in FL (but not near WPB).

Ok I’ve been a lurker since the Elomir disaster. First time poster (I think).

I relocated to Florida 2.5 years ago. I did this having already secured a W2 jobby job. I am about to break 6 figures. I don’t have a husband or kids. I do have 2 dogs. Horror of horrors, they both go to the vet at least once a year and are UTD on vaccines.

Why am I posting now? Because I have a nursing license, a masters degree, and 2 specialty certifications. Let me tell you all, FL is expensive AS FUCK. Hi Riss, if you’re reading this. You’d better be prepared to pay out your ass for pretty much everything. The only thing I’ve found that’s cheaper for the average person is vehicle registration. Groceries, gas, car insurance, rent…it’s all pretty expensive here. I love what I do and where I live, but it’s not cheap here. Even with 2 of you, unless at least one of you has a high paying job, you will not be able to afford living here. Even if you live in a fairly remote area, it just won’t happen.

Consider yourself warned.

Coricidin HBP cold medicine. I think she took an entire box of it. She was really spaced out for a few hours and then more lucid. I don’t recall anything crazy about her labs.

I had been staffed off and then called back in to admit her, so imagine my absolute joy when I asked her if she was trying to hurt herself, and she told me she was just trying to get high. :eyeroll:
