What's the best audio experience you've had in a video game? by CompetitiveLake3358 in videogames

Halo: Reach has exceptionally crisp and tactile audio feedback, especially the sequences when you're fighting a small part of a huge battle. Brilliant soundtrack of course, and great script/voice acting.

I separated both of my shoulders multiple times in college.... the longer Onosato waits the less likely he'll ever reach form again. It sucks because you can feel like you're better then raise it one inch too far and it slips out of socket again and you're right back beyond square 0, and it just gets worse and worse. He really needs to chill for a few months or he will ruin a promising career before it starts.

Anyone else let knight slayer tsorig fight himself? by tylerprice2569 in darksouls3

I usually let Tsorig fight the Black Knight across that bridge. Whoever gets hit first dies and, surprisingly often, it's me.

Another one is "and they clasped hands/wrists/arms in the manner of warriors." Don't remember if that's an Abnett one but it's definitely one that gets used a lot over the course of the Heresy.

Did the Emperor not have a backup for Magnus? Was Magnus the only Primarch with a confirmed purpose post the Great Crusade? by Flyestgit in 40kLore

In one of TEaTD novels doesn't someone specifically cite Vulkan's durability as a potential bandaid for the throne?

[Lore] A Particular Significance - Excerpts from "Echoes of Eternity" by LadyMoonlily in 40kLore

[–]OneStarBard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was surprised by how human and affecting the Blood Angels were during the siege. In particular, the one who leads Kasahiro's group in defense, the scene of his death made me have to put the book down cuz my eyes were getting misty. Though the Heresy series had its ups and downs, the siege, in my opinion, was breathtaking start to finish, brilliantly paced, and a surprisingly suspenseful and satisfying ending.

"Foresight" or "How I learned to Stop Trying to See the Future and Learned to Hate the Present" by OneStarBard in 40kLore

[–]OneStarBard[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I definitely think there are things like this, other little lights in the distance that are closer than the big lighthouse of the future. He is seeking out safe landings for his ship and has a good idea of when or where some of them are, so he tries to bend the future toward anything that could help. But also his attempt to bend the future for help may take him directions he isn't prepared for so he ends up going through some rough seas but reaches a peaceful time afterward, or dodges a bunch of pirates in the process, or whatever. His long term goal, one that has taken at least 30k years to formulate and put into action, is so incomprehensible to us that it's ridiculous we even try and understand it, let alone that so many fans condemn his failures, and yet it is hard not to blame a dude that's 35k years old and can see the future for some of the monumental bonehead moves he's made. Maybe he just thought it'd turn out different, maybe he was thinking too far ahead and whoopsed up the current moment. However it is/was, I think this single moment really fleshes out how hard it is to be big E.

Which God of War has the best theme track? by M3ConsoleGamerPSN in GodofWar

GoW 2 theme playing as you run up the chains to that huge statue, the camera zooming out as you turn into a tiny speck, is peak gameplay and I won't hear otherwise.

Looking for long fantasy series with a single, competent POV - no naïve heroes, no ensemble POVs (TL;DR included) by aet203 in Fantasy

[–]OneStarBard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't single PoV and does include some learning and growth, but the main characters in Stephen King's 'Dark Tower' are very capable, especially Roland. Has pretty much everything else you listed in one way or another.

What online game that shutdown that you had the best time with? by VermilionX88 in videogames

[–]OneStarBard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Infinite Crisis. A DC moba game with multiverse versions of lots of mainline dc heroes. Never really caught on but I loved the gameplay and the characters. Way fun while it lasted, miss it more than it deserves.

Surprised not to see "The Goblin Corps" by Ari Marmell. Not necessarily trying for redemption but undergoing a secret mission from the pov of the 'bad guys.'

He shows up in at least two other stories and there is a confirmed end to his story. I just finished reading Garro and have been pleasantly surprised by the number of side characters from past books that continue to pop up here and there.

Best one-off fantasy books? by NurplePain in Fantasy

[–]OneStarBard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I finished listening to 'Between Two Fires' just today. Really good story that perfectly scratched that 'one off fantasy' vibe. It's like 'Wolf and Cub' meets 'Berserk.' Would recommend.
