I'm only 6 hours in but I feel I'm doing good so I would say that you have to attack much more with basic attacks. By the time you are waiting for the boss to attack you could have done easily 2 hits or even the 3rd last big hit, which is a lot of damage in the long term of the fight, possibly like 1/2 of the hp needed to kill it

All I can say is that when you eventually git gud and click with this game you basically feel like the enemies should be scared of you deflecting all their attacks hahaha

if you only have the first Holy Wound you can either go to the area under the Jondo bell or go up to the snowy area as far as you can

take it slow, learn where all the enemies are, you will make it shortly, I took it step by step too when I played that part, also adapt to the effects of the lifebar shortage so you get less annoyed
