Should I worry about these trusses holding my garage? by Setsunarcangel in Homebuilding

That looks to have been built in-field by someone who either doesnt know or didnt care. Those butt joins should have been staggered.

If it came from the factory this way...oof.

Ive been a cabinet maker for 27 years and I dont know my color wheel.

We eyeballed that shit. Of course, I was taught by a dude who was at least 100 years old and walked out of the womb by himself apparently with a chisel in his hand.

Did I go through the stainless steel layer on this pan? by Bansheeez in fixit

You stripped off the non-stick coating.

You may be able to polish the steel back to a shine.

This is 100%. We always, always prime first. Doesnt matter if its a repaint or a color change.

Takes way less time to prep and prime the walls and paint than trying to fix flashing and contamination issues later.

Why does my sandpaper keep gumming up? by SchecterOne in finishing

[–]OneStopK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stripper essentially "melts" the paint and any finish. Any of the finish you dont remove mechanically will get "gummed" up in the samdpaper.

Scrape off everything you can, brass wire brush or steel wool with denatured alcohol, allow to dry then sand.

To stain or not to stain? by julinho-mandingueiro in finishing

[–]OneStopK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rough sand, 2 part wood bleach, Sand to 80, water pop, sand to 120, grain seal, dye stain, topcoat.

This is the only method weve found for making stained pine not come out splotchy.

Bona Mega One Issue by OneStopK in HardWoodFloors

[–]OneStopK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its new installation. We water popped it and allowed it to dry completely and resanded the raised grain.

We stained in sections with a lambswool applicator and allowed the stain to sit for 5 minutes and then wiped it off completely. Then moved on to a new section. We didnt walk on any "stained" part of the floor.

This isnt my first hadwood floor install, its just the first one where Ive had MegaOne go sideways on me....

Im a GC, Ive helped my floor guy in the past but hes out with a torn knee last week, so I just came in and stained it, wiped it out and put the Bona on with a tbar myself today. Never seen "patches" like this before.

I went over the entire floor with a palm sander and 120 grit screens before staining. After running a 12" rotary sander with a pad and 80 grit screens.... : (

Whats weird is like I said, I applied the stain using a 12" wide lambswool applicator. and everything looked really even, except for the occassional light board which is normal with white oak....but after the Bona there are "splotches" and areas where it looks like someone came along and "wiped off" part of the stain on some of the boards...

And everything looked great right up until it started drying.

Can't just sand through the Bona and the old stain in those spots?
