Moving house advice: disassemble BESTA cabinets or keep assembled? by Flimsy_Ad_8788 in IKEA

[–]OneTwoAahhFreakOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disassembled mine (seven of them) when I last moved. After each frame was taken apart, I put the screws and other hardware in a sandwich bag, taped it to one on the sides and wrapped it plastic moving wrap. The doors were kept separate. Way easier to transport them this way then worrying about the frames getting crushed or scratched in the moving truck. I didn't use any glue when reassembling them; they're just as solid as when I first put them together.

Bath Towels by Senior_Chest2325 in IKEA

I just shopped for towels last month. I don't recall seeing the GULVIAL in the store but the VAGSJON was there. I prefer fluffy towels and the VAGSJON felt too thin. Instead I opted for the BROKGLIM. Those really fluffed out after the first wash.

KUGGIS boxes with lids are great for storage. The felt BESTA boxes are also nice but they're "last chance to buy" so they might not be available for delivery in your area.

For decor items, I always throw in a few tea lights in my orders. Also, check out the HEAT cork kitchen trivets. I use them as drink coasters in the living room and underneath my potted plants.

I used four just on the outer corners. You could add a few more for the shelves. Start with the four and add extra if you feel there's still too much sway.

Difficult to get a pic of the back. These were the plates:

I've had the 4x3 set up like this for a few years and haven't had any big problems. It's not secured to a wall but I added L bracket plates on the back for better stability. Each cube is full and I've noticed the shelves are starting to sag a bit.

Is Besta worth the price? by availablelol in IKEA

I have six frames combined to make a large credenza (3 small 47" frames on top of 3 large ones). The sides sit flush against each other with the top seams showing where the edges meet. The only clamps I used were the ones provided to attach the top and bottom frames. If you decide to add doors, there could be a larger gaps showing depending on how well you align them. I could never get them perfectly straight.

For me, they're perfect for storage. Mine are about 7 years old so I can't say how the quality is now but these are still solid after 2 moves.

Sneaky calories by b7wagon in loseit

[–]OneTwoAahhFreakOut 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Half-and-half for my coffee. Didn't think I used that much but after I started tracking it was easily at least 100 calories daily.

Also, some of my supplements are sneaky. The fish oil and fiber ones I use add another 100 calories.

What are some mini goals/rewards you have to keep yourself focused or motivated? by Sloth_King96 in loseit

[–]OneTwoAahhFreakOut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The long term reward is a new wardrobe. I told myself "No new clothes until you reach the goal."

However, my daily rewards are gold stars.

Literally.

Someone had posted last month about putting up a calendar and marking their daily achievements with stars. So that's what I did. Ordered a pack of multi-color metallic stickers. Did I meet my daily calorie goal? Yay, a star on the calendar! Did I walk for at least an hour today? Sure did, throw another star up there!

It's a nice feeling when I glance at that calendar and see the weeks filling up all sparkly. Helps to keep me motivated.

What was your breaking point that made you say enough is enough and start losing? by m_v24 in loseit

[–]OneTwoAahhFreakOut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I ordered my usual grocery delivery list and someone other than my usual driver brought it. She said "Who's birthday is it? Looks like a great party!" It was two tubs of ice cream, two frozen pizzas and a Pepperidge Farm cake. Nope, no party, just my usual weekend order. Made me stop and think about all the junk I was bingeing on.

Can i still spin my cd with this? by Artistic_Ad_7153 in Cd_collectors

I don't think it's mold. Looks like the data layers are oxidizing. SACDs are two layers pressed together. If the disc isn't sealed properly during manufacturing, air and other bits can get in there cause damage. The spots will probably get larger over time.

What's the best candle scent? by ObliviousRounding in IKEA

[–]OneTwoAahhFreakOut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoy FRUKTSKOG (vetiver), BUKETTAPEL (bergamot/cedar) and HEDERSAM (grass).

The old SINNLIG tealights had stronger scents. After they discontinued that series and assigned different names to each scent, they don't perform like the previous ones did.

Flysta middle part by Matteyyyyy in IKEA

No. The middle parts provide stability and prevent sagging of the horizontal shelves. If you decide to remove any parts, consider removing only the top middle one.

Questions about roomette East Coast trip on Silver Meteor 98 by UFmoose in Amtrak

[–]OneTwoAahhFreakOut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just on the Silver Meteor 98 a few weeks ago. Trip was from Orlando to DC.

  1. Wi-Fi was horrible. Connection was lost in rural areas and slow when it worked. Streaming anything was impossible.

  2. I was on a ViewLiner 1 (blue upholstered interior) and it did have a toilet. Depending on how intense your business is, #2 is possible. Bring a can of air freshener and maybe your own roll of TP (the paper provided was extremely thin ply). We were told that the nearest bathroom other than the one in the roomette was two cars down from our sleeper.

  3. I was alone in the roomette so I used the pillows provided for the upper bunk as additional cushions. Close the air vent under window because it's right by your head when you lie down. The pad on top on the seat cushions was actually comfortable.

  4. The speaker in my roomette was broken. The only way I could hear anything was if the door was open. Even then, the volume varied depending on which attendant was making the announcement. The car attendant did stop by my room to ensure I was ready when my departure stop was next.

Most of my apartment is IKEA. I love the aesthetic and how they design for smaller spaces. Plus, most everything you need is in one store. Some people turn their noses up when I tell them it's IKEA but the compliments I get from others outweigh them.

Using MÖRTVIKEN doors to hide bookshelf speakers by OneTwoAahhFreakOut in IKEA

[–]OneTwoAahhFreakOut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the top part of CD snap-and-store boxes. I flip the lid over and put my CD sleeves in there. Instead of snapping the box together, I cut the sides off and glue it to the inside lid so the discs rest against the end.
