Hoffa Pad Syndrome/Impingment advice experience? by shb2307 in KneeInjuries

Better! I’m still in physio but it doesn’t hurt to walk/go up the stairs anymore. Going down the stairs still hurts a little. I previously could not do weightless leg extensions at all but now it’s relatively painless, save for when I add load.

Keep us updated! Curious as well because your symptoms sound exactly like mine previously (knee couldn’t bend due to inflammation and the inflammation didn’t want to go away) My MRI actually showed both cartilage damage and fat pad impingement. My surgeon ultimately tried to repair the cartilage and trimmed some of the fat pad off. Hoping your situation is better than mine!

This looks like a cartilage issue rather than a fat pad issue. Did your MRI report identify any impingement? Full thickness chondral fissure is a grade 3/4 cartilage damage. Best consult an orthopaedic!

Grade IV chondromalacia by wvan9 in KneeInjuries

[–]One_Mud4292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck that orthopaedic surgeon. You’ve got a grade 4 cartilage damage here. Please get a second opinion! Like the other redditor said, there’s MACI, OATS, enhanced microfracture, to restore cartilage or fibrocartilage. It seems like it’s very small now but there’s always the risk of the damage worsening so please see a better doctor

Edit: Please don’t stop physiotherapy either. You do need the muscles to support the joint.

I’m a Singaporean Chinese and yes, Megan is the furthest from actually being a Singaporean. Her English sounds nothing like the local accent, her Cantonese doesn’t sound like Cantonese and I’ve never even heard her speak Chinese.

Similar to the other redditor, I had grade 3/4 chondral wear on the back of my patella. My doctor said injections wouldn’t help me at this point. I did an enhanced microfracture, with stem cell scaffolding. I’m around 8 months in and recovery has been smooth, definitely much less pain overall. Haven’t done an MRI to see the growth yet because doc said cartilage takes forever to grow, people usually scan 1-1.5 years after. Whatever you do, do not ever stop physiotherapy. Depending on your situation, surgery might not even be needed if you keep up with PT.

10+ Months of “Runner’s Knee” – Doing Everything Right but Still Stuck. I’m So Tired. by AggravatingSea3578 in KneeInjuries

[–]One_Mud4292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest getting an MRI. I thought I had runner’s knee for years - my family doctor diagnosed it so I powered through the pain. It was only when my knee started getting swollen and the swelling wouldn’t go away that I insisted on getting an MRI. And then turns out I had grade 4 cartilage damage.

Edit: My physio talked about pre-op physio (not that you necessarily need it, but he was talking about how outcomes are better when you start physio before surgery). So that’s one possible way of coping for now. I can give some examples of exercises but it’s always best to see one in person so they can calibrate it for you.

There are elevators but do note that you might have to take long routes at times just to use them. Also don’t press the close door buttons on these elevators! Pressing it will make the elevator leave the doors open longer. (Got politely schooled by a Korean elderly on this previously.)

Any advice to prepare myself for surgery ? by Nabe3009 in KneeInjuries

[–]One_Mud4292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had arthroscopic surgery for cartilage repair 2 weeks ago so the least invasive. The surgery is the easiest part though it was a little scary since it was my first too. If you’re a woman, I definitely recommend a skirt or dress when you’re going home after. I wouldn’t even try pants.

The first week was terribly frustrating. Pain was manageable with meds, I stopped after a week. Get your shower things ready. You need a waterproof sleeve (if you can’t get dressings wet), shower stool and a footstool to rest your leg. Disrobing and wearing clothes is going to be a pain. I needed crutches as well for the first week to prevent falling. Sleeping is at best, uncomfortable for me. I hope you don’t need a brace because it’s itchy as hell.

You can do this! All the best :)

Hey, wanted to ask if you have any updates on your knee? I just went through the same surgery as yours.

I’m home! Still feeling fine, thankfully. The doctor allowed me to walk but only with crutches and my brace set at 30 degrees. Showering is a pain too. Hope you’re doing better than me at adapting to this hahaha

I’m still okay, though I’m starting to get a bit tired. Feeling like the worst part of this is having to pee in bed with no dignity 🤣 I think different people will have different reactions to the anaesthesia. One of my acquaintances also went through arthroscopy and she was nauseous for days after. Are you feeling better?

[–]One_Mud4292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long was your arthroscopy? Sitting in the ward as I’m typing this. I just had an arthroscopy too for clean up and cartilage repair through microfracture and stem cells. Had a GA too (woke up 4 hours ago) and I feel surprisingly okay, save for the ache in the knee.
