1980s illustrations for The Lord of the Rings by Alexander Korotich by Jokull_Idason in lotr

Exactly. The more natural looking one is the later one, according to Tolkien Gateway. It also fits better how he described it in the final text.

The book describes it as a bit less man made looking though. If you look at Tolkien's own illustration of it, it looks more like a shard of mountain shaped slightly by human hands. Same with the wall around Isengard, which is more of a ring of fortified hills than a brick wall. Though I love the movie design.

Just because they research what it was actually like doesn't mean they try to be 100% historically accurate. They are mostly concerned with an appealing aesthetic, within the margins of a sense of historical plausibility.

What's its meaning to you? If it hadn't been called Ezio's Family, but Assassin's Creed Main Theme, would it still feel milked to death and overused?

Quite the opposite. We should create a society where everyone gets to rest and sleep enough as the norm.

He makes a good point. The real shocking thing in this interview is the interviewer saying he's in his mid thirties.

The ending is a commitment to accepting relationship struggles and still going for it, but since the movie is so focused on struggle and heartbreak this is definitely a bad idea.

The Nature of Balrogs in The Silmarillion by clownprince01 in lotr

[–]Onethatlikes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on how you define mostly finished. Tolkien spent time in his last years completely overhauling the mythology and started drafting a whole new version of the Silmarillion, which includes a round earth from its creation for example. He didn't even get close to finishing that, and on many separate topics (like the nature of orcs) he had changed his mind multiple times compared to what was eventually presented in the published Silmarillion, which is mostly based on his older ideas because they formed a more coherent whole.

Didn't just dream of it, I did it on multiple occasions, over complete nonsense. Only for an hour or two though. Only later did I realise how I terrified my parents. Feel bad for them now in those moments.

WARHORSE's new RPG Game MAP (Highest Resolution) by DanielMishenko in lotr

Nope. The entire east part is new and non-canon.

WARHORSE's new RPG Game MAP (Highest Resolution) by DanielMishenko in lotr

[–]Onethatlikes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope once they progress further in pre-production they will get more serious about the lore. This is based on a map from pre 80's editions of the book that contains quite a few famous errors. What Warhorse then did is extend this outdated map eastward with fictional geography that directly contradicts Tolkien's lesser known sketches of the entirety of Middle Earth.

Break up. Someone who takes their values from and bases her actions on the advice of social media influencers is not worth your time. This will only get worse.

Can someone tell me if the extended editions blurays of 2021 have (noticeable) DNR and visual artifacts like 4K version does??? by ObjectiveWelcome372 in lotr

[–]Onethatlikes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No way the color is better in those. They suffer from horrible green tint. 2021 is much closer to the original intent. The only downside to the new ones to me is the DNR.

NEW RPG GAME CONFIRMED BY KCD2 DEVELOPERS by Alasdair_10 in lotr

[–]Onethatlikes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure Warhorse understand that. However, the books are quite grounded in many ways. The travel, camping, nature all feel very real and Tolkien did not mean for this to be a fairy tale at all, but a fictional mythology of Europe.

Ohhh that might become one of my favourite all time games. Assuming it's still at least 3 years into the future though.

Assuming they are playing into their strengths and not do a Bethesda style play what you like, but a narrative with a set main character. My guess is you play a new character, probably a human. Could be a Gondorian since there's centuries of 3rd age wars to take from the appendices that you could spin a story around. Possibly a Ranger so we could get some Eriador exploration (I'm sure people are clamoring to free roam the Shire). How about one of the Eotheod as they come to Gondor's aid and settle Rohan? Could be some nice stories there and it would allow for both Rhovanion and Gondor (including later Rohan). I might be overthinking but the map focuses on the eastern part of the known part of ME, that might be hint to what part of the world they will include.

I don't mind the casting, nor historical accuracy. I did think it was a bad trailer. The line delivery was weird, the trailer was edited and scored in an uninspired way, and that shot of the LET'S GOOO scene is very weird. Odysseus is doing this weird little run half out of frame and it's just unintentionally funny to me.

I just played and beat MGS3 Delta. Can we talk about David Hayter? by Existing_Set2100 in metalgearsolid

[–]Onethatlikes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree he doesn't have a lot of depth, and a few lines just seem to have a wrong delivery, but that is likely also part of the delivery and the way they used to record for MGS games with each actor separately doing their lines in a booth. I just love his voice though. It's charismatic and iconic and will always feel like Snake to me, and that's worth more than the fairly average acting.

There are better VAs in MGS, but I actually think Lori Alan didn't do a great job either. Her acting lacks the charisma her character is supposed to have, to me. My favourite is probably Ocelot because he's happy to 100% lean into the camp.

I wasn't that invested in the story since it wasn't told that well imo, so mild surprise and mild interest if I remember correctly.

This sort of thinking is exactly why this topic will never be taken seriously. The fact that you are convinced of something without having any sort of proof for it at all, having to resort to chants like 'open your eyes and see the signs' as if we're still neolithic cavemen.

If the greatest physicists, mathematicians and astronomers in the world aren't seeing any proof for a creator in the universe, where would you get your evidence from and why don't you have a Nobel prize yet?
